  1. I agree with the Protein shots. Mixing a scoop of Matrix protein with yogurt is another option. Are you of your recently banded still having pain in the port area and/or running a low grade fever? I am on day 5 and cannot get up from lying down without help. I can stand from sitting without problems. Also, it seems every evening my temp get up in the high 99s or low 100s.l
  2. I believe the statistics I read say that band patients will lose on average 60% of their excess weight. On 100 #s that would only be 60#. My physician recommends that higher BMI patients go with a Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass. Talk with your psych evaluator and physician for their reasoning.
  3. Glad you made it! Take little walks around the house to help with soreness. I was banded on Monday and just got up from a nap.
  4. Way to go on the walking. Today is day 3 for me too. I am doing laps in the house. My port really burns with movement so I am taking it slower. Mine was a band replacement, so I had a port removed and replaced, so those muscles are super sore. I will try to follow your example on a delayed basis. I AM going to get the rest of this weight off.
  5. Good luck to you! You will be fine.
  6. I agree with walking as often as possible to prevent blood clots. Tell your doctor about the flight. If he uses Lovenox (injectable blood thinner) he may prescribe that you continue the injectable doses post surgery for a couple of weeks. I had my surgery on Monday and have 14 days of shots as an added prevention to blood clots.
  7. You need the two weeks off from work so leave the date as is. You should be fine to get around.for the superbowl. At six weeks post op, you will be on a regular diet, but nutritious and small quantities. Keep ready to drink protein in your room as a back up to make sure you get in your 64 grams. If you feel the diet options are not there with traditional football game food on the menu, you can always opt for a small grilled chicken salad. Remember, no bread, alcohol, or desserts. If asked about your diet choices and quantities eaten, just say that eating healthier is your New Years Resolution.
  8. I was banded yesterday (for the second time). I do/did not have this problem, but I didn't have a hernia repairs. I suspect that either you are getting used to the tightness after hernia repair or you are gulping when drinking. Call you doc for his opinion.
  9. Thank you all for your well wishes! I am staying up a little while longer so I can take my pain meds before going to bed. I am walking like a little old lady, but hey... I made me a walking path thru the house (10 mini laps) to use every hour. In the morning, I plan on walking to the end of the cul de sac and back (5 houses down and back).
  10. Hour and half ride home didn't bother me and my pillow. Band removal and replacement only took a little over an hour. No complications! Yeh!!! They confirmed the leak, which suprisingly was in the band itself and not the tubing or port. I guess you could say I had a flat tire. I am feeling pretty good now. I am sure thanks to the pain meds. Sipping Water for my sore throat. Hope all the others banded today are as fortunate.
  11. Good luck to you! I am right there with you today. It is the power of positive thinking. We will do great!
  12. Good luck to you! I am right there with you. Surgery in 3 and 1/2 hours!
  13. Sounds like your first two weeks have be rather uneventful. Glad you are doing well!
  14. I am excited that the day is almost here! My surgery is scheduled for 10 on Monday. The pre-op liquid diet passed much quicker than I expected. Today I am drinking coffee, Vitamin Water, suger free gatorade, and strained chicken noodle Soup and preparing food for my family. Funny, I am enjoying the smells of food, but it is not bothering me. How are you feeling today?
  15. The hospital staff will ask you to confirm that all piercings are removed before you are prepped.
  16. You go girl! Let us know how you do. I am 12 days behind you.
  17. You could start in one of a few places. Ask your primary care physician's office contact your insurance company for prequalifiers and recommendation of a weight loss surgery physician. Contact your insurance company to see if weight loss surgery is covered and what the prequalifiers are. Identify a surgeon and go to their seminar. This is a good way to learn about the surgery and the process. While insurance policies are different, there are more similarities than differences. There is a lot of information online. Google the procedure and/or go to You Tube for testimonials and/or actual surgeries. This forum is great for questions and comforting one another. Let us know if can help you.
  18. I am enjoying the weekend and I am excited about starting my two-week liquid diet on Monday. Insurance finally approved replacing my current band that quit holding fluid over the last year (this was a 4 month process). I have gained 30 pounds in that year without the restriction. On August 20, I will have the old band removed, scar tissue cleaned up and a new band put in. As of Monday, it will be six weeks before I can eat anything that needs to be chewed (two weeks pre- and post- surgery liquids, plus two weeks of mushies). I know what is ahead is not easy, but I am so ready to get back on track. I can do this!!!
  19. I like Greek yogurt for breakfast or for an afternoon snack. It has lots of protein and is fillings. Nothing to do with tightness.
  20. I agree, dehydration can cause dizzyness. Have you been getting in all your liquids?
  21. Rachel, at three weeks out, are you still on mushies? When can you have real food?
  22. Sorry to be so quizzicle. Did the doctor plan to keep you overnight or decide after surgery? Can you tell I am a little anxious?
  23. puppypaw, did you have to stay overnight?
  24. Thanks puppypaws and icunurse for your comments. I want to have my eyes open when I do this. I have a pre-op discussion with my surgeon on August 10. Plan to ask his experiences with putting in a second band. My only choices are to 1) do nothing, 2) have band removed, 3) have it removed and replaced, or 4) pay the full tab and revise to a sleeve. Before I opt for #4, I would like to see what king of results I have with a second band. puppypaws and icunurse, how are you doing with weight loss since the second band? If there is anyone else out there with a second band experience, please chime in.
