  1. I just had it done 6 days ago and I have to admit with the first 2 days being as rough as they were I questioned myself! But now that I'm feeling well again and I'm already down 21 lbs (mostly from the pre-op diet) I couldn't imagine NOT making this choice. I was laying in bed last night and I started thinking about how lucky I am to have this opportunity to be healthy again, and thats what it's all about, not about the fact that I haven't had taco bell in almost a month LOL. So no regrets here!! As far as being able to eat the stuff like before, I believe it's everything in moderation. Last night my fiance wanted Dairy Queen and asked if they had anything that I could eat, I said probably not but get me a kid's size vanilla ice cream anyway! I ate about 1/2 and I felt satisfied, I got to eat a food that I used to love but with the new found control that I've never had before.... So I say go for it, get through the roughest part and then you should be able to incorporate the foods you love into your new life!
  2. Hey guys just checking in....I had a rough recovery for the first few days, lots of nausea but when I realized that I just can't take pain killers, period. So I'm just dealing with the port pain which now 5 days out isnt too bad, and I'm feeling a lot better now! I actually went to my Aunt's 20 year anniversary party yesterday and besides smelling the Brown's chicken and my mouth watering it was fine, I danced and everything lol Good luck to everyone still to be banded, my best peice of advice is listen to your body, dont make it do anything it doesnt want to and you'll be fine!
  3. seabreeze, Ive never heard of the post-op depression, what is it caused by?? I think I may have had the start of it yesterday, everything seemed to make me cry! But today now that I'm feeling better I don't feel as emotional....
  4. I have the disolvable tylenol Jr which was reccomended by my Dr but I'm thinking about getting the liquid adult version and I do have chewable gas tablets but they don't seem to help much....but I know I'll get through it, right now I'm just trying to not dehydrate and I'm trying to stay as comfortable as possible, luckily I have a laptop so I can keep up with the posts from the couch lol
  5. hey guys, I just wanted to check in....I'm now 3 days out and I'm having a tough recovery. I'm allergic to codine so they put me on hydrocodone which ended up making me nausous 2 days in a row so now I'm on a pill that gets crushed and taken in apple sauce or pudding but it tastes awefull so I only take it if I'm in ALOT of pain. I'm basically just having port pain and gas pain but I really can't take in much liquid without feeling like I have to stop. I tried tomato soup yesterday and I only got in like 4 sips and had to stop, did anyone else experience this?? I didn't expect to be so tight immediately after surgery....or is it maybe gas in my tummy???
  6. I had an abnormal EKG too and I found out 1 week before surgery and was able to get the cardiac clearance before my date so I didn't have to cancel but it was scarey. My cardiologist said my stress and scho were normal and my heart is healthy, some people just have an abnormal EKG. However an anastesiologist (sp?) wont put you under without clearance.
  7. Diva Thanks for the advice! I did end up peeing but it was soooo slow and in small trickles, but hey at elast I've peed lol 904cathe, I was banded yesterday and I have the same chest feelings, I had them immediately after surgery and they told me it was gas, as long as I walk a lot and even bend over some I burp and it feels better. Happy2BeMe, I work for Starbucks so I know your pain about the coffee, I suggest gogint o a 1/2 caf now to wean yourself to decaf. It worked pretty well for me....
  8. hey guys , I'm home and doing okay, but I'm scared because I haven't peed yet. They went ahead and sent me home though and just said to come back to ER if I don't pee soon, did anyone else have this problem???
  9. I had 2 weeks of "full liquids" basically anything sugar free and liquid. I used a protein drink that was Whey protein and it helped a lot and tasted pretty good too. It is typical to see 2 weeks of liquids and it was my biggest fear of the whole process but you WILL get through it, I'm on day 14! I get banded tomorrow and I never thought I'd make it but I did with no cheating by some miracle of God lol. I just kept thinking about the after surgery part of it all and I can't not do what I have to do to get there ya know???? I'm not going to say it was easy but YOU CAN DO IT!!!
  10. Hey Jewel it's the "friend from lapband class" LOL, I'm glad to see you on here, its the best tool I've found! Wish me luck tomorrow, I'll try to give you a call when I feel up to it!
  11. Hello all, I just wanted to post one more time before I join bandland! I am soooo nervous and its making me nausous already, is that bad??? I can't believe I survived the 12 days of full liquids and the 2 days of clear, YAY ME!! But now comes the even harder part...... I'll check in tomorrow night if I feel up to it otherwise I'll post on Wed. Please keep me in your prayers! Thanks for all the support over the last 2 weeks you guys are awesome!
  12. To be perfectly honest I'm still not sure and I'm getting banded tomorrow! I just keep thinking about how great it will be afterward when the pounds start melting off and actually STAY off  It was a tough decision for me because I absolutely LOVE food and I will miss being able to eat anything and everything I want but in the long run I'm young, I'm engaged and I have my whole life ahead of me and I dont want it to end early because I didn't get healthy and fit when I had the chance. It's definately a personal decision and I don't know how overweight you are but if you think it could improve your life I say DO IT, you will always wonder "what if" if you don't! Keep us posted as to what you decide!
  13. Betty, I'm going in tomorrow morning too and I've been on clear liquids since yesterday. The clear protein drinks are called isopure or stacker 2 also makes a "protein water" but they are both clear, I wouldnt drink atkins ones if you can't see through them. But thats just me, and I'm not the Doc so if you want to be sure I'd call.
  14. thanks for the broth info, I think I'll try the veggie one. I just made some chicken broth with boulion cubes instead of by can and I like it much better that way!! I'm 1/2 way through the first day and I'm okay so I might actually make it!!! YAY
  15. Diva Girl, I tried the Isopure ones and I gaged on them...the after taste was unbearable! I do have 2 bottles incase I get desprate but I'm going to stick to the Stacker 2 ones if I can, I got them at a local area grocery called Meijer and they taste much better and they are only $1.49 per bottle. The only bad thing about them is they only come in sour flavors which I'm not that excited about but thats okay... I'm allowed diluted fruit juice too so I'll be getting some energy from that. But thanks for the advice and if anyone has brand or flavor suggestions for broths that'd be great, I had campbell's chicken broth in the can and I hated it.... I'm a picky eater lol I know right now I cant be choosey, just eat what I can and get through it but it's 10 times easier when I find something I like.
  16. okay, so I start my 2 days clear liquids following my 12 days of full liquids and I just don't see how I'm going to do it! I'm already as hungry as I can ever remember being and I'm going to cut out even more??? I'm trying to keep busy to keep my mind off of it and I've found the "Stacker 2 Protein Water" and I like that (20 g per bottle if anyone wanted to know!) so that should help but I'm still very worried! I can't believe that the big day is only 2 more days away!!!! YAY!!! Wish me luck everyone and keep posting! Reading this forum keeps me going, I don't know what I would have done these last 12 days w/o you guys! Thanks to all of you!!
  17. I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well, it makes me less nervous about my banding on Tuesday!
  18. Caroline, Hi! I'm Jamie and I am set to be banded on Tuesday! I just wanted to make a comment about the soda drinking. I know that my doctor doesn't want us drinking carbonated drinks ever because it creates gas that can stretch your pouch. I'm no expert though since I'm not banded yet, but I just wanted to share what I know Also, I think you are okay by eating ground beef 14 days out as long as you had no discomfort and as far as restriction I heard that there is usually no restriction until the first fill. Hope that helped!! Also just so you know there is another "Aug Band Crew" thread that is all about people being banded this month incase you want to get in on that one too!
  19. That video was great!! I know much more of what the actual surgery will be like which is awesome, knowledge is power! The whole thing made me remember why I havent eaten anything solid in 9 days! LOL
  20. Booda, Thanks for the advice!! I will call my doctor tomorrow to see if it's okay for me to do that also. I just hate missing work this week when I'm already off all of next week for the surgery! Thanks again!
  21. GOOD LUCK to everyone going in over the next few days! I can only imagine how nervous you guys are! I'm nervous and mine is a week from tomorrow! Today is the mid-point for my 2 week liquid diet and I really hope I can make it!! My energy level is soooo low and I have a physically demanding job, I actually had to leave early one day because I thought I was going to faint!!! Is anyone else in a high paced job??? How do you handle it on no sugar and such low cal intake?? For now I'm just gettin through it, I know I'll be glad I did!!!
  22. Surgery date of Aug 22nd here!! On the 4th day of full liquid diet pre-op and I'm starving!! :Banane27: But I know it will be worth it in the end.....
  23. I'm on day four of my 2 week pre- op full liquid (no sugar) diet and I'm ready be done already. Some of you are saying you only have a one week pre-op that'd be wonderfull! Last night I almost cheated but I didn't. The hunger pains drive me insane! Does anyone else have a job where they are active all day?? I found that I get very sick while at work because of the low sugar intake and my stomach hunger pains put together, any suggestions? My surgery is Aug 22nd with Dr Stanish in Merrillville, IN, 5 lbs lost in 4 days NOT TOO BAD!
  24. Congrats on being banded!
