  2. I measured a little at first, but that was inconvienent for me, so I go by feel now. I am trying very hard to learn to listen to the q's my body is giving me when full. Tight feeling in my tummy, i'm full. Lump in my throat, I've eaten too much.
  3. Hi Randy and nice to meet you. Keep us posted on your surgery plans. Still planning on attending this thursday.
  4. I think I eat way more than most. I can typically eat about 1 1/2 cups of food per meal. This is about 12 oz I think. For instance, I can eat 1 1/2 cup of pasta and 2 or 3 large apple slices and and feel full. two pieces of whole grain wheat toast and one of the tiny/small yogurts. ditto 1 6oz can of tuna with 2 tbs mayo and 1 tbs relish with 6-8 ritz crackers. all this sounds like large meals, but I am loosing wt. Compared to what I used to eat, these meals are tiny. I used to eat alot. except for whole wheat toast occ with small amt margerine. I don't eat any bread.
  5. Ok, so heres the deal. Even way back in high school, I tended to be an introvert. We moved around alot and I have ALOT of difficulty making friends. As I have gotten older and fatter, I hate crowds and being around ppl I don't know. I also have a bit of a chip on my shoulder being around ppl with spouses, (I know I am irrationally jealous and its stupid but I can't seem to completely get past it.) Because I have done NOTHING to change this situation. I do great around ppl I know, I'm fine at work, church, and with long-time friends, but meeting strangers makes me tongue-tied and awkward feeling. So, that being said, I am pulling up my boot-straps. Summoning up my courage, and I AM GOING to go to the Denton bandsters meet/greet. My natural instinct says....don't go...but my heart/head know that I would benefit from the support if I can just get past my phobia. Wish me luck...and tell me to get off my a$$ and join the world. >> me.....loosing weight...hopfully gaining a fuller life.
  6. ok, I hope that it doesn't have anything to do with lack of restriction or another problem. But I have been able to take my meds without any difficulty from the 1st day post op. I take 4 med size pills without trouble. I also suffer from migraine headache disease and will at times take 4 ibuprofen at one time without probs. I did switch to chewable vitamins and calcium tabs. Those giant horse tabs (calcium) did give me a golf ball, but chewable has been fine.
  7. My Dr always uses the lidocaine first. I prefer that since my port appears to be slightly difficult to locate. He always has to "poke around" just a bit, but with the lidocaine, the pain is only minimal/tolerable. He also always uses flouroscopy. My last fill last week went very quickly, was the smoothest so far.
  8. Drew, your foot tat is beautiful. The colors are awesome.
  9. I am interested in a local support group. Mary, thanks for arranging this. I have marked the date on my calender and plan to attend. Missy
  10. This is a Celtic Triqueta and I am thinking of getting this tattoo someday if I can ever work up the courage to get another. So far, its just a thought. lol
  11. I have 2 toy poodles. Pierre and Possum Jack. My joy, my bane.
  12. Alicia...I think tattoo pain is like childbirth pain...you block out the memory. . Because at the time I was getting it...I think I boohoo'ed like a baby, it did hurt. But since its my only one, I can't compare. Drew. Congratulations on runnniiinnngg the treadmill. That is awesome. Kelli, its very nice to meet you. OK, I didn't make my "I have a dream challenge".:phanvan , but....I did loose 5 lbs, so I am not to discouraged. I have decided to make my goals a little smaller for me. MY valentines day challenge. to be in the 2teens. My longer term goal....to be in onederland by bandiversary!!! and to do better with walking....still haven't consistantly gotten up to 3x per week. working on it. I went last wednesday for my 3rd fill. 1.5cc for a total of 10.5 in my vg band. Today is my last day of liquids, I've lost 2.5 lbs. looking for that sweet restriction. have a great day all.
  13. My mother is 6 1/2 years out with her lap band, I"m guessing she was one of the first. She had it done in Houston in 2001 and has so far had no complications.
  14. I was doing alot of online research pre-banding. I had joined OH.com and went there frequently but as soon as I found this site, I pretty much stopped going to the other site because I was looking for a positive upbeat website and found this one was great. I love that the most of the ppl who frequent this site are friendly, positive and , when giving advice do it in a nice way. Thats what I wanted, no nonsense facts and lots of nice folks to chat with.
  15. I only have one tatoo, but funny enough, when I got it...one of the main concerns about placement was what it would look like with my constant yoyo wt. I ended up getting it on my foot. Hopefully it won't change when my fat feet change to slim trim sexy feet....lol
  16. I have decided not to worry about this problem either. I think about all the thousands of ppl who walk around with artificial parts in them. Band is not the only surgery. There is heart surgery, with plastic valve replacement. Knee and hip surgery with plastic replacment parts. Plastic "shunts" for children with hydrocephalis. All these ppl have plastic or artificial parts in place. Some have complications.....some don't....I don't think its a given....I guess I feel like its just more the luck of the draw.
  17. I miss white bread, and carbonated beverages but thats about it. Everything else is ok. But I used to love sandwiches on fresh white bread. And Dr Pepper...I miss dr pepper.
  18. ROFL....me too Teresita...me tooo
  19. My worst moment happened when I wasn't but about 30lbs overweight, my EX (for good reason), This was about 20 years ago, we were ahem....showering together and he said "your face has gotten so round, that when your hair is wet you look like a boy". It hurt my feelings so bad, I cried like a baby, he apologized, but it didn't matter. That has stuck with me to this day.......To this day, when I look in the mirror with wet hair....I see a boy's face. :phanvan :lost1.5lbs: I've often thought that this is one of the reasons its so hard for me to even go anywhere without make-up on.
  20. Good luck!!! And ditto what Kim said, mind sharing the specs with us? And let us know how things are going post op? My dream is a tummy tuck/boob lift someday....lol
  21. That sounds like a very strange port placement. My port is in the left upper quadrant of my stomach area, (just below left rib cage), and you can't see it at all. My 2 friends who have their ports in about the same area, with 65 and 95 lbs lost. I can't see either one of theirs when they are standing. My friend who has lost 95, you can BARELY see hers lying down. All of ours are easily palpable tho.
  22. I was just at my surgeons last Wed, with a friend who had LB done the same day as me.....she has had terrible hair loss. And the surgeon told her.....Protein....protein....protein. He said her hair would never grow back well unless she consumed enough protein. For me, I was told 60 grams per day, for Patty, he told her at least 80 per day.
  23. Ok, I haven't been treadmilling like I had planned, only getting to the gym about 2 times per week. But am planning on GAINING momentum and not loosing it. :lost1.5lbs: I went for my 3rd fill on Wed, and after one week of mandatory liquid diet, I am hoping to hit that sweet spot. I want to be a member of the 6oz club!!! I won't make the I have a dream challenge, have only lost 3 lbs so far, but by the 15th, my revised mini goal is hopefully 5 lb wt loss. (and ya know, I look at a 5lb package of ground meat and think...5 lbs is good). Keep on.....baby steps better than no steps. I am interested if anyone has any ideas for a February challenge. Good luck to everyone in the "I have a Dream" countdown. Go may bandsters!!!!
  24. I think its not a good idea either. No matter that you can locate the port by palpating, the risk of damaging either the port, tubing or yourself is too great a risk IMO. I also agree with Leatha that they probably use Huber type needles rather than standard hypodermic needles although I am not for sure. And truthfully, I don't watch when I am being stuck....lol
  25. Can plastic surgery really get completely rid of surgery scars? Thats what I wonder about with celebrities, because even after nearly a year, my abdominal scars are very obvious.
