  1. Hi Cassandra, This question has been asked several times on several forums here is one of them: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=22262
  2. Depriving kids of knowledge or snacks can be devastating. I was a lunch aid for 1st and 2nd graders last year......Zach-who happens to be my neighbor is a little "chunky" so I was surprised to see what was in his lunchbox......gatorade and a container of tuna---not a sandwich...a container. Okay so everday Zach would eat some of his tuna...and ask to go to the cart.....special for kids..they can buy snacks for under a dollar...salad, hard boiled eggs, cupcakes, ice cream..etc...you get the picture. So every single day for 6 weeks solid, Zach would get 2 bags of doritos. Since he knew me, he volunteered that his father won't let him have them at home. Dad is skin and bones and works out every second he can!!!! Zach plays football, baseball, Karate, you name it!! But at home because of all the extra activities, he is dormant. Zach goes for the one thing his father doesn't want him to have. Instead of educating him and allowing him to add the snack with healthy snacks, he forbids the not so healthy -causing cravings. I allowed my kids whatever they wanted, but they also would eat well, my older two--they would just as soon pick cucumbers over a hershey bar any day...so when they did pick the , I knew it was no problem. My 9 yr old is a whole different matter, she is allowed snacks, but I buy the healthier choice of what is out there. She has to eat the good foods first, then the snack/treat is allowed. So there is no way I'd keep anything from my kids...they have to know both sides. Zach needs to know the consequences of his actions, and be offered an alternate snack. oh yeah, I told his mother. If I were my kids, I'd want to know.
  3. Hair loss in lap banders comes from the lower rate of protein intake (that is because you can't eat as much when you are first banded)..your protein stores in your body hold about 3 months of protein. That is why at about 3 to 4 months out, you see the hair loss. Biotin is a good supplement, but not necessarily for the hair loss as some of you have posted. Biotin is B-7...it is found naturally in egg yolk, soy, milk, and barley. Protein is the key for keeping your hair!!! If you are not sure, ask your hairdresser she will tell you. Get your protein shakes in, drink your skim milk with a tablespoon of molasses in it...molasses has protein in it. Fish...Tuna, blue fish, sardines, any dark meat fish (the oily kind is high in protein) low fat cheeses, low fat yogurt, beans. Storing protein before you band, ummmm...you won't be able to because of the liquid diet and the mushie diet stages. (well, yogurt during mushie diet stage will work)..but to build up the storage like it was takes time. When we are cut back...the protein we do have stored gets used up because our stores of carbs are gone. Personally, I wouldn't waste the money on the Biotin...take your vitamins and watch your diet. My sis wasn't forwarned about the hair loss but because of her I warned others, and they have had minimal hair loss. Best Wishes!
  4. I told my kids (18-girl, 17-boy, 9-girl) they all support me. They all know I do this out of desperation...they know it doesn't have to happen to them. They know that I let this happen to me. ....But, they also know if it does happen to them (because of predisposed genetics)....there is hope for them....We are not ashamed.. we are glad for the band. The kids like that the band is a chemical free way for me to diet. The kids are thrilled that I am doing something to get healthy. (you know, just because they are children it doesn't mean that they don't get pressure from their peers...eww your mom is fat...sort of thing)-(I have only been this heavy for the last year.. luckily) Now my husband on the other hand, he's another story....lol. He doesn't understand why I am doing this........when I am back to me.....he will understand...lol.
  5. ha ha maybe the administrators got wind of all the crap here and shut it down...lol. I emailed them twice and they finally came back with "we know". I think they need to upgrade their system.
  6. Cross stitch...can't eat while doing it and its very theraputic...lol. And in the end, you get a picture out of it...LOL.

Yay, that is great!! I just got approved on Thursday (great feeling huh!) You'll pass the psych evaul. They just want to know that you know, that the band is merely a tool and that you will still have to diet and exercise and that the band doesn't prevent you from cravings. What grade do you teach??? I have three semesters to go and then hopefully I will get my teaching certificate...still have to take Praxis II...ugh....and a History Praxis..yikes. Take care and Best Wishes to you!!
  9. This whole entire forum---from its beginning-----reminds me of this: Person One: "Have a nice day!!" Person Two: "Don't tell me what to do!!!!!" :tired :tired :bored :bored :tired :tired :bored :bored
  10. Well, while we are on the topic of Mexico...I thought I'd mention this. I just took two summer semesters of Spanish. For Spanish II I had to do a restaurant review. I found a really quaint place about an hour from my home. Real nice Mexican family restaurant...real homey...felt like I was sitting in someone's kitchen. Food was awesome...omg...filling and the price was insanely low. Okay now for the reason for this post.........Pepsi and Coke....not nearly the carbonation as our coke or pepsi.......and not as sweet!!! So I wanted to pass this on to the Coke and Pepsi fans out there who are banded......I'm thinking this just might be the perfect indulgence for bandsters!!!!!!!! I got an A+ on my paper.....and now have added two new loves of Mexican Cuisine....Coke/Pepsi....and Mole Sauce!!!
  11. ha ha ...you so are funny. I think its a status thing. I am holding out till its cool to drink Wawa Iced Mocha Mint....then I will be cool too.
  12. Yikes I spelled your name wrong too!! I am so sorry. I came across as a meany and didn't mean to. I just don't understand why people like to think that if you don't have the same doc as them-that you are wrong. For all I know, my doc sucks...lol i sincerely hope not. I want those names to see if my doc is one of them (one month 2 days till my banding-want to make sure I wasn't lied to -yikes it would be larger than a lie-don't want to think about that...lol) I agree not ever doc can be trained by the doc's in Mexico...truth be known, it was the European Countries who started this procedure. (which I find odd....there are more overweight American's than Europeans anyway...ha ha) I think we don't hear about it so much because Mexico is so close to us. To be totally brutally honest.....ugh I am gonna be sorry for saying this I think......its a patriotic issue for me. I live in the United States and I drive an American car...and yes some would say, well it was assembled elsewhere or the parts are from elsewhere...but I checked...all the parts and assembly are from the US...omg the car dealer looked panicked when I asked....lol. My truck is also "all american". So my choice of doctor goes with my choice of anything I pay money for....American made. (oh boy:nervous ) Okay having said that........THAT IN NO WAY MEANS THAT I THINK THAT ANYONE WHO GOES OUT OF THE COUNTRY OR BUYS FOREIGN CARS IS ANTI-AMERICAN....THAT IS NOT WHAT I AM SAYING....ITS JUST MY OWN PERSONAL CHOICE. (okay back to regular font--all caps was not yelling---it was attention getting only). Everyone have a great day, and best wishes to all!!!!!! (ha ha sounds almost like a Christmas greeting.......which by the way is 4 months from today!!!!! agghhhhh!)
  13. Do you even know what a psychic vampire is? Just wondering, because you seem to think (by what you wrote) that it is someone who is mean. Penni wasn't attacked she was just referred to. Oh yeah, a psychic vampire is one who drains you of energy. If you felt drained...I understand. If you are saying Doty was drained....there is no proof. Oh and I still want the names of the three surgeons in New Jersey.
  14. Okay, I am from New Jersey......who are they????????
  15. Hi, sorry you are feeling under the weather. I just wanted to say your shake sounds yummy..if you can, you should try it once with Molasses instead of the Splenda (I love splenda myself)...Molasses is a dark sugar, so its not as bad as white sugar...but the reason I say this is because Molasses has protein in it....I had a tablespoon of it in skim milk the other night "taffy" milk....it was oddly good....lol!! (just a suggestion) Best Wishes to you!!!
  16. I think the best are Genisoy...soy Protein..they come in the basic flavors..choc, van, strawberry, etc. But there is also Spiru-tein (by Nature's Plus) they are good too and here are some of the flavors: Cherries Jubilee Cookies N Cream Cappuccino Peanut Butter Swirl banana Strawberry chocolate Vanilla Peaches N Cream Raspberry Royale Nutty berry Burst Strawberry Shortcake Tropical Fruit Strawberry Banana These can be found at The Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, Rite Aid, and some grocery stores.
  17. My doc went to Pittsburgh to learn from the doc who invented Lap Band Surgery...He went to San Diego to learn GB from Carnie Wilson's surgeon. He has proof of this in his office. I wouldn't want anyone else to touch me....but I am luckier than most because my insurance is paying for everything....but if I had the money and the support I would need from my husband, I would travel out of the US to get it done. (Mexico though? not sure) edit: No doubt Dr. Ortiz is brilliant....and his facility is wonderful. For me personally I would just want a local doc...thats all. I said not sure about Mexico beause I know people who have gone there and said that Americans aren't treated so well. These were vacationers.....not WLS patients.
  18. I love General Foods. Have you tried their Chai Latte???? (tea) its my new fav....fatty of course, so i only get it for special occasions...lol.
  19. Bettina commented on Telly's blog entry in Telly's Journal
fat...hmmm that should not even be a word you should be allowed to say!!! (wash your mouth out--hurry...lol) You look awesome....are you sure you were overweight?? I had to laugh when you said "lacy boy undies" I was like, ewww what boy wears lacy undies....ha ha forgot about "boylegs" for a sec...silly me!!!!
  20. lol...seriously...some of the crap...ugh. Ya know, I was thinking some of these threads belong on Springer......LOL. I was watching him this morning and thinking "hmmmmmmm"....ROFLMAO!!!!
  21. ha ha ...just throwing another wrench in here........... no one mentioned gods and goddesses.
  22. The thoughts of me, who's degree is Psychology....I was reading tonight ..I won't even mention the topic because after awhile they all sound alike. I just wonder about some people...do they even know how to read? Do they need a dictionary? Do they know how to use punctuation to stress how they feel while posting? Do they go back and re-read what they wrote? I don't think so! Some people just talk out their ass I think...lol, with no regard for other's feelings. I think using a dictionary should be a pre-requisite for joining any forum. Oh yeah what does forum mean: (taken from Webster's) : a public meeting place for open discussion : a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas (one would notice that there is no mention that its okay to diss others) So what is the problem here. People bashing others.....do they do this because they themselves want to be bashed?? Its the whole "Do Unto Others" idea I am putting out there. So this means that people are allowed to say what they want to someone else but god forbid that person comes back with a reply!!???Does this even make sense?? um...NO! So I wonder did these nasty people just learn to speak today and they just don't know better? Were they taught this at home (cause I know they didn't learn it at school) Does their mom know they act like this? Even little children don't act like some of the people I have seen on LBT. My favorite has to be the person who bashes someone on one thread and then two threads later they are sticking up for them like they are their long lost buddy.......can you spell Sybil???? (multiple personalities for those who don't get that) I am thinking that they need to update the list of side effects of lapbanding. "Caution, lapbanding may cut off the oxygen to your brain and make you speak out your butt with no regard for others" LOL I think I will suggest it. Ugh more drama here lately than in most 4th grade classes!! So one would say to me "why are you even here if you think that way?" I came here to get support and make a few friends. There are about a dozen really nice people on these boards!! The rest of the population..I look at as speedbumps....annoying things lying in my way that I have to gently get over and forget about them after leaving them where i found them. who was this addressed to really? The "negatives" who will read this journal entry with anger:angry . (the rest of your are truly wonderful people):clap2:
