  1. Best wishes to both of you! I was banded 2 weeks ago...piece of cake (lol-well not anymore..lol) Seriously, it was easy. You'll love being banded!!
  2. Spiru-tein is good and one of the lower one in carbs and sugars...be careful with protein powders...they are mainly made for body builders and are high in carbs!
  3. You need to find a support group! Go to ObesityHelp.com and put your city in and you will find one. (ugh get rid of the lunchables--too high in sodium--no one should eat them ever!) Thru Sprint, you should be able to get help too...call the Health and Welfare dept on Monday and ask them about a dietician and therapist..all free of charge!--its a good thing! Keep your chin up, recognizing you need assistance is the biggest step and you have already done that!! All the best wishes to you!
  4. Good luck on your journey!
  5. 5 lbs but its only been 3 days...lol. I think coffee makes you gain weight because studies show that caffeine makes you hungry (soda too for that matter) I plan not to go back to my coffee/diet soda addiction.
  6. I don't know, I'd call it a NSV myself. I'd personally be thrilled to lose so much weight that my pants fall...lol. Congrats on the weight loss!!
  7. Hi Larry, I had my surgery on Wed. Still sore. Ice was okay for the first day, use heating pad for rest of time. Doc gave me Tylenol w/codeine...did you get it too? I find it doesn't make me sleepy but takes the pain out. it is very normal to feel this pain and tired..it was major surgery, they poked us in 5 places and we had all our functions shut down...under extreme meds. So yeah this is all normal. I am also not hungry, but I think I am on my way to dehydration..bad very bad. I try to drink, ugh just don't feel like it. I never want to see Jell-O again..lol. Tomorrow I can start on pudding, I am so excited!!!! I have been lazy with the Isopure too. How long will it take to heal is different for every person, but the sooner you get up and get around, the sooner you will heal (I have had 3 c-sections and a back surgery) I just walked to the bus stop and back (2 blocks) feel tired but glad I did it. I have been trying to walk a little every day. Coughing---hand is good to use--that is what I have been doing...pillow seems awkward. I had diarrhea today and yesterday--always fun...not. hubby gave me stew broth--not fat free. But it didn't hurt just not fun:cry . Sorry if that was too much info but i am sure that is why they say fat free. So beware. Good luck, Keep in touch!
  8. These boards are scary and there is a lot of negativity....your best bet is to go to a local support group meeting..there you will see first hand that the people who have already had this done are fine, and even though there are some who had problems, they have overcome them! Another thing to keep in mind, is that there are people here who have never had surgery and this is very dramatic and traumatic for them. Also...ask your doctor about his success rate. Eroding stomach is rare and comes from other underlying causes...the band is silicone. The band doesn't move (ask the doc about the procedure where they take a piece of stomach and stitch it over the band so it doesn't move. The band doesn't get smaller or tighter throughout the course of the day. Only when they fill it does it get smaller. Its not made of human tissue so it doesn't "react" as some have posted a while back. Its a man made compound. I am having surgery tomorrow and just now came back from talking to someone who had total success with it!! I needed to do that to keep me in check. I saw the incisions last week of a girl who had it done 3 weeks ago...looked like scratches!!! Healed beautifully!! Don't go entirely by what you read...talk to your surgeon, talk to others who have gone thru it. You'll be great!!
  9. She never said why she couldn't have it, I thought maybe she was told not to. I had to ask the nutritionist the other day if I could eat salad eventually...she kinda smirked and told me that they want me to eat healthy. I can't go by what a lot is said on the boards...my doc is so completely different.:phanvan He doesn't require a pre-op diet, except for the standard one day prior clear liquid diet...I was surprised!:biggrin1:
  10. Just curious: Why can't you eat salad? I do know the answer to the cookies and ice cream question...its because its all sugar and breaks down quicker. Chicken and melon have Fiber = harder to break down. (but not impossible).
  11. Wow, I noticed you posted that you aren't banded. Are you planning on getting banded? Take care,
  12. Hi, Mine ramps but I don't use it. I just put the mask on and exhale and poof...goes right on. I love using it because my ankles are starting to look normal..yay!
  13. I am being banded on a Wednesday and going back to school on Monday...full time student-6 classes. The doc said no driving for a week, but work/school is fine --just no lifting. So as long as you aren't lifting patients or huge files, it shouldn't be a problem. But you have plenty of time to ask the doc that before your banding...give him/her a call!
  14. I bought liquid Tylenol for adults for when I am home and Tylenol meltaways Jr Strength..Bubblegum flavor for when I am out. Vitamins: I bought the liquid Centrum...have you tried that, flavor isn't so bad, reminds me of the Bayer asprin for children.
  15. Hey that is a good idea, next time my hubby complains I am gonna ask him what is better snoring or air noise? I have the swift mirage too. Do you find yourself taking it off in your sleep? I did that twice last week and omg---legs got bloated again and got out of breath easier...ugh. I found a cure though......I barrette the neoprene band to the top of my head! That way I will have to wake up if I pull on my hair! Not only was I taking it off -which is odd- I have long hair so I actually have to sit up to take it off..I wear it like a hairband..but I was also turning the machine off too!! I am glad I have it, but can't wait to get rid of it. :nervous
  16. Thanks, it was pretty funny...the look on his face was priceless!!! Last night the phone rang, it was his friend from Russia, he met her while they worked together at Shop-Rite. She was here for the whole summer but has to go back. (he was teary-i felt so bad for him|)..anyway, she is coming back next year. She said she'd love to marry an American --she'd like to stay in the US she loved it here. One of his friends said oh like Keith? (that's my son) and she said yes.......hmmmmm :omg: :omg: :omg: Uh oh, may be trouble on the horizon. LOL she is a lovely girl..and she looks like Kirsten Dunst!! *** I forgot to mention...I met my husband at Shop-Rite too. The first day on the job i saw him and thought, I'd love to marry him! (i was 17) Ha ha I married him when I was 21..and we have been married for 21 yrs.
  17. Yeah my sis had RNY...I only posted that because Helensmith had duodenal switch in her title but then mentioned banding....I thought she was asking what is the difference. I was just giving the general idea. Personally I would never let anyone cut thru my stomach--but that is personal preference.
  18. There is an alarming amount of deaths due to taking anti-depressants. They are mind altering and some people just don't function properly..Smith prob didn't realize he mixed the drugs...so sad The suicide rate (even though I know that is not what happened here) among teens taking antidepressants is staggering...we had 6 deaths in the local high school last year ...kids and antidepressants.:omg:
  19. You are so not alone on this one!!! I am just glad to see that i am not alone!! How awful, having a new baby and your son dying while coming to see his new sister! Ugh! Do you have kids? I do, so I am thinging that I have extra feeling for her..another thing i think about is she just lost all that weight to make her life better and now this....and I am trying to lose weight to make my life better....I feel the kinship.:cry
  20. gotcha! My doc told me that tummy tucks depend on how old you are, how is the elasticity of your skin, and how long have you been overweight. (the longer the worse it is to get it back in shape) I see your 50 but that certainly doesn't mean you don't have really nice pliable skin. The whole reason I am doing banding over bypass is the plastic surgery issue, 1-2 lbs a week is managable and I should be able to exercise while loosing to keep up with lose skin issue. Best wishes to you.
  21. I ditto everyone else, she is prob a little jealous.
  22. Not only that, but they put spyware on your computer......Last January I had to send my computer back to Texas because I got 22 Trojan Viruses from an email like that!!!!!! OMG it was awful!!!!
  23. I checked it out Dana, no, I couldn't use that one either. Mine just goes under my nose...like a fake mustache...lol.
  24. I tried that one for my overnight fitting, it kept sliding off my face-I lay on my side to sleep. Yeah mine seems to be noisy if it comes off my nostrils. Hubby sleeps on the couch sometimes claims it wakes him up...but we use the air conditioner at night so I don't see how he can hear my mask. My nostrils are so so tiny...I have these odd "pillows" they don't go up my nose, they kinda just block them so no outside air gets in. None of the nosepillows fit due to the tiny nostrils (currently my best feature -that and small ears--till I lose weight...LOL)
  25. Dana I am a 7 too!!!! What kind of mask do you have?? Mine is really tiny!! Its really a tiny set up! Mine is called Mirage Swift nasal pillows...If I had to have a real mask I'd shoot myself-no worries about sleep apnea after that!! My kids call me Scuba Steve!!! LOL
