  1. I haven't read any posts yet, but I needed to update. Skiing was terrible. I couldn't find any boots that fit around my calf. I tried on a boot 2 sizes larger, made for larger calves and it still took two guys to get them buckled. We missed the morning lesson so we were going to do the 1:30. First we decided to do a run on the bunny hill. My poor boyfriend fell a bunch, and had my dad coaching him while my mom and I did the first run. By the time I got to the bottom I had numb toes (from painful boots, not cold). That was it for me. He didn't last either, we should have had him take the lesson first. We were able to get a refund since my boots were so tight I got bruised shins after one run. I'm so disappointed and embarassed. I tried so hard not to cry in the ski shop. I thought for the first time that I wasn't too fat to do something fun. My mom pointed out that there were a number of other people having the same problem (my dad, some other lady there) but it felt like I was the only one. It's like the amusement park ride all over again. I'm bummed. Anyone know exercises to slim calves?
  2. Good morning everyone! Last week I did 75 min on the elliptical and had a bum hip for two days. I didn't go to the gym since. I don't know why it's been a week since I went to the gym. I like the gym. Ugh. Anyway, the fella and I are going skiing with my parents tomorrow and heading up their way after work, we might stay the night in Tahoe tonight. I'm excited to ski for the first time in about 12 years. I'll post pics when I have them!
  3. And hey to Coco... I see you down there. I'm off to work!
  4. Lee- You've got surgery the same day as John! Yay for twins!
  5. Tina, you know there can't be a wls group in produce, it's gotta be at the deli counter! lol.
  6. As far as I know, CPS didn't take the baby, baby should be with mom who didn't realize how bad dad was. They were arrested after the fact.
  7. Omg Tamra, that is just like Annalee's licking whatever she licked. lol. My sister used to chew french fries and spit them out, so gross. Attn ladies who like the diet cran/pom juice... it's on sale at Raleys/BelAir for $2.99.
  8. Welcome Laurel! I'm from Elk Grove. The Point West meeting is a good one, but it's only once a month. There's a meeting at Kaiser Elk Grove, every Monday, but it's no good. They make it very clear it is a RNY meeting. We went once and were told they had a guest speaker and were charging $20 per person. We sat outside their group and had our own, and it was great! Lightbulb. Maybe we should crash the EG meeting and hang out outside... have our own group. Maybe every other week? Just got an email at work, they're having a mobile body-fat testing thing available to employees and families. It's $40. I think I'm going to do it, it's the same day I start my challenge at the gym, it'll be a nice base line to start with. I'm really hoping to be at my surgery goal by March/April. Update- 3 men were arrested in the shooting, one had his 18-month old daughter with him in the car.
  9. OMG Reggie! I'm glad you're safe, that is so scary!
  10. Ash- I'm so glad you had a good meeting, that sounds like fun! Wierd how the Fremont meeting wasn't great, the Elk Grove one is run by Fremont patients and it is terrible. It's a weekly meeting less than 5 miles from my house and they're so the opposite of friendly and welcoming, I won't go!
  11. I just found this site, posted somewhere else on here. It's a prepared meal company with all band-friendly foods! Bandtasticmeals.com Seems interesting, expensive... but interesting.
  12. There is no known motive for the shooting. Nicole's brother-in-law was there with his brother and a friend. They were talking in the parking lot when a car drove through, stopped in front of them and fired multiple shots. The other two were not hit. The Sheriff's press release is here Sheriff's Media Release
  13. Nicole, I'm so so sorry. I know this has to be very difficult for you. Please take care of yourself and Auds. We're all here for you.
  14. Bella is Lee! Lee changed her name.
  15. Tina- Come say hi tomorrow!
  16. Tina- That sucks. We haven't had much talk of the layoffs, they mention April but I'm trying not to stress about it. I know there's a ton of fraud in IHSS, they've got to get that under control. Dr Machado seemed pretty cool, I went to her orientation a few years ago. Bobbie (Angel's aunt) had her for her lap band, you should talk to her next month at the meeting. And, there might be another doc at Sutter Roseville (?) Oh and one last thing Tina- Which courthouse are you at tomorrow? Way to go Coco!
  17. It requires lots of coordination to master the steps, but as long as you keep moving and your arms are in sync, no one will notice!
  18. Coco- I'm excited for your news, and I don't even know what it is yet! How cool that you had your cm appt today though! Woohoo! Candra- I'm doing The Body Fit Challenge at my gym (CalFit). On Saturday Angel talked about it, she won at her gym the last time they did it. The top male and female from all the clubs wins $500 cash, a mountain bike or a year's membership. I start Feb 13. I'm excited! Maria- of course we missed you! Come with next time!
  19. You usually have to at least pop off one nail, check with your program, it usually depends on the anasthesiologist.
  20. Tina- Which court will you be at? I work @ Ridgeway. Mo- Are you using large plates? If you aren't already, you should switch to salad plates, makes you small amount of food appear larger. And make sure you measure girl! I did 1 hr 15 minutes on the elliptical today. And I felt great! I even signed up for the body fit challenge, I'll be doing group training every Mon and Wed at 7 pm starting in Feb. Woohoo! Tamra- The lovely lady in blue is April (SmilinApple)! Pat- So excited, your surgery is so soon! Donna- We missed you!
  21. Welcome Alison! I would allow 2 hours for sure. It's usually not that long of a drive for most appts, but to be there first thing in the morning you're going to get stuck in a lot of the commute traffic. You can't be late to orientation, they have no sympathy for it and they'll make you leave and try another orientation. Don't bring in soda or big fancy coffee drinks to orientation either. If you bring a support person, just know that they won't be able to sit with you, they'll be sitting in the back of the room. I can't think of anything else at the moment, sorry! Good luck!
  22. I just went to my first zumba class this week. Talk about fast feet! Wow! It was a lot of fun though, and it makes you sweat for sure! We even had one woman who used a cane, she did zumba from a chair.
  23. I don't know about the shape-ups, but the similar MBTs were highly recommended by my podiatrist. I have the fit-flops and the fitpflops clogs that I use as slippers around they house, they are so stinkin comfortable I now want to wear them everywhere.
  24. Reggie, Feb 6th works for me! Thanks for hosting us again!
  25. I had a great time today! And I scored with the clothing exchange. I took 3 bags of clothes and came home with a new (dressy) coat, a few camis, a few tops and a skirt. I'm stoked! It was great to meet Candy and Karen, and so good to see April, Candra, Nicole and Pam. Yay! I was at the gym this morning and they're advertising their Body Fit Challenge. It's an 8 week challenge, during the first 6 weeks, participants get 2 group training sessions each week. The winners are those with the highest percent of weight lost (like biggest loser) and the top two from each gym go on to the overall, and the overall male and female win either $500 cash, a year's membership or a mountain bike. I was thinking of doing the challenge because I need to step this up. Well, today at group, Angel said she did it and was the winner at her club! I talked with her afterwards and now I've decided to go for it. It's kinda expensive but if it gets me to goal, it'll be worth it. Plus it's going to be nice to get some good training. I'm nervous and excited.
