  1. WOW has this thread gotten out of hand or what? Nobodies feelings were meant to be hurt here, and there is no reason to be sensitive. All I meant in my post, which is what I wrote, is that I hope everything goes ok for you. plain and simple.
  2. 6 cc's seems very aggressive for your first fill, let alone any one fill at all. I hope that doesn't cause you any issues.
  3. There is absolutely no way I could get a fill without numbing medication. My port is tilted so it takes many many tries with the needle, we're talking probably 30 tries in one sitting. I can't imagine what it would feel like without being numb. I'm sure you can request numbing medication, I doubt you're the only patient of theirs who has experienced pain.
  4. Dr. Wolf at OHSU did my surgery. I actually have no complaints, except for the whole fill experience. But I'm not even sure it's his fault. It turns out my port isn't tilted at all, my stomach was just still very lumpy from healing and needed an extra month to smooth out.
  5. Just thought I'd give a little update.... I went in yesterday for another fill attempt. They did it under fluoro right off the bat because of how bad it was last time. Guess what? The needle went into the dome of the Port, first try! Woohoo!! I have 3 cc's now. So far I can notice a slight difference. My Dr. said I could come back in as little as a week if I want to get a 2nd fill because of how far back I was set. I'm going to see how the week goes and may go back in for another.
  6. This is such a great idea! And since nobody else has responded yet, I guess I'll be the first to take the leap:smile2: I'm a 21 year old female. I'm pretty short, just 5'2". Right now I'm about 215 pounds, 20 down from surgery yay! I have petite face features, the two things people comment most on are my long eye lashes and nice teeth. Otherwise nothing stands out too much. I carry my weight fairly evenly, but like lots of women my midsection is definitely my trouble area. I have long wavy blonde hair, and sometimes I wear thick framed glasses that make me look like a librarian:wink2: Oh and I'm very fair; you know the blonde hair, blue eyed, light skinned type. I would love to hear you describe yourself! Let's see what image I come up with in my mind!
  7. Man I dunno, thats a long time to do a liquid diet. I know personally there is no way I could do it.
  8. Hi! When is your surgery again? I mean if this was a very temporary thing I think it would be ok...but if you're planning on doing this for an extended period of time I wouldn't recommend it. Especially if you'll be doing your normal day to day activities...working, taking care of kids, cleaning, etc. It doesn't sound like enough calories for much activity. I have heard of a lot of people on here doing atkins/low carb diets to lose some weight prior to surgery, you might think about doing something like that. Or Weight Watchers is another good one if you have enough time. Good luck!
  9. My Dr. recommended that I cut back on bread and pasta, which I have, but I still eat it sometimes. I do try for whole grains, but have had white bread and regular pasta too and I haven't had any problems with it.
  10. I'm sorry that this happened to you. Some people are so rude. Perhaps it is because they are trying to hide their own insecurities; regardless it still hurts a lot. I have a similar coworker who is always giving me diet and workout tips, but I never asked her for them in the first place. She also feels the need to pick apart whatever I'm eating. She'll pick up the wrapper to whatever I have and read the nutrition facts and tell me whats wrong with it. She also asked me once if I had ever considered trying out for the "Biggest Loser." Oh and of course she's a tiny little thing. Well, I am just silently laughing to myself, and you should too, because a year from now we're going to look amazing and they will be speechless. For once.
  11. Honestly at this point I can eat almost the same as before surgery. I'd say around 2 cups satisfies me. I'm working really hard to stop before then because I know putting 2 cups(sometimes more!) into my pouch IS NOT GOOD. So I'll stop eating when I've had around a cup, but I'm literally hungry again an hour later. It's been tough, I'm just praying that I get that fill in December.
  12. I'm in the same boat as you! Surgeon tried for about an hour with fluoro to give me my first fill and still couldn't get it. They're going to try again in a month and if it doesn't work we'll talk about a port revision surgery.
  13. I hope that if/when they are able to give me a fill they put in as much as possible like with Petunia, because if fills are going to be such a difficulty I'd like to limit the experience.
  14. Maggie, I'm glad you were able to get everything resolved! I'm sure you're feeling very relieved. I hope they can fill it next time.
  15. My surgeon said that my abdomen is still a little lumpy from healing and that in another month it should be more flat, and I guess that will help locate the dome of the port. I sure hope thats the case. I'd really like to avoid a port revision surgery if possible.
  16. I know the needle looks awful, thank God for numbing medicine! This is close to what my Dr. did, except that they took an x-ray, then put the needle in and took another x-ray while the needle was still in so they could make sure it was in correctly (which it wasn't) and they had to repeat this over and over again moving the needle each time because the dang thing just could not find the dome of the port. I wouldn't say it was painful; but I sure was sore afterwards. Plus I had to drive over two hours round trip to get there, and to walk away with no fill was a bad feeling. But the only thing I can do now is work hard and rely on good old diet and exercise. Hopefully come December the fill attempt is successful!
  17. I had an awful fill experience today and am wondering if this has happened to others. I'm 6 weeks postop, and went for my first fill today. After several unsuccessful attempts my Dr. decided to do the fill under fluoro (with an x-ray machine.) From what I've read on here fluoro fills are suppose to be great;quick and accurate. This was not the case at all. My Dr. still had trouble, and tried with that awful needled for another 30 minutes. I was actually bleeding from all of the poking and prodding. At one point I had 4 Dr.'s in the room trying to figure it out. My port has shifted and the angle is weird, but I still figured they'd be able to do it. So they sent me home and told me to come back in a month so we could try again. I'm just really disappointed because I was so looking forward to getting this weight loss going. Most people get their first fill 4-6 weeks postop, I'll have to wait until 10 weeks out. Has anyone else has such an issue with this? I hope I don't come across as whiny, I'm just very frustrated.
  18. I'm almost 6 weeks postop and have lost about 15 pounds. I think they say you may not lose weight in this time period because your body goes through a lot during the healing process, and most people don't have restriction until they get fills. As usual though, everyone is different and some may lose loads of weight, while others may not lose any at all.
  19. Don't let this hinder your motivation...but I didn't lose the weight and they still did my surgery with no problem. You might want to just call them and ask. But still, its a good idea to at least try and lose SOME weight.
  20. Every surgeon/nutritionist is different but here is the list they gave me: refried Beans ricotta cheese baked with red sauce and mozzerella tuna mixed with mayo apple sauce cottage cheese yogurt chicken salad chili oatmeal malt-o-meal mashed potatoes(garlic mashers...mmmm!) pudding low fat ice cream or gelato Of course everything on the list is low or now fat, sugar free if possible. I hate sugar free stuff, so I kept it as low fat as possible. Hope this helps:smile2:
  21. No preop diet for me either! They suggested that I lose a few pounds to shrink my liver, but I failed at that one, and it was fine. No big deal and it turns out my liver was fine once they got in there anyways. I'm glad I didn't have a preop diet, it gave me a chance to have a "last meal" before surgery!
  22. I drank exactly one month post op. I had 3 glasses of wine, spread out over about 5 hours. No problems at all!
  23. I agree, Atkins does suck. Tried it 3 times! is there a reason you're doing Atkins? It's not great for your health.
  24. That seems a little soon to me. You Dr. may say something different, but I know for me personally there was no way I could have drank a week out from surgery. I still felt sore and weak. Also something to consider, you will only be on the liquids stage which means you'll basically have nothing in your stomach and alcohol would effect you a lot more than normal. I would use extreme caution.
