  4. Well, my parents found out my plans to get the Sleeve in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. Wow did I get a full attack. I feel so bad right now. They got on me about going to Mexico, that I am crazy. I tried to explain that I've researched and have been talking to all of you and I am confident in the doctor and hospital. Still they came back saying the internet is all lies. They argued that anyone on these chats and forums could be by people who are paid to promote it. I offered all my research and for them to view Dr. A's website, but it was no use. They went on and on about how I may have complications in the future and why am I going to risk my life for this. Can you believe they even attacked my husband. He is the greatest man ever and he supports me 100%. They feel he doesn't realy love me if he's going to let me do this; he must only care about looks. That is NOT true. My husband loves me no matter what size I am. I am doing this for me; for my happiness and health. I know my parents are just being parents and they love me. And I know I am an adult and the most important opinions are from me and my husband. But I've always been a family girl, and the fact that they are fighting me and see this surgery as only resulting is a negative way really hurts me. Now I am even doubting myself. Am I doing the right thing. Is Mexico and Dr. A right (I can't afford it here in the states). Will this decision make my life Hell later due to problems. My heart says GO for it, but now my head is swimming. I really need a boost right now. Rose
  5. I've been debating whether or not to tell my co-workers about getting WLS. Normally I would say NO its none of their business. But I am a teacher and if I drop the weight as fast as some of you have, they will notice and my students will notice. I have done the yo-yo thing as long as I've been working here and never was able to lose weight super fast. And my co-workers are open (NOSEY). Not to mention the parents of my kids (yikes they are worse). They will ask eventully. They always asked me if I was pregnant when I gained weight. Let me tell you that got old real fast! I'll be so happy when they won't ask me that anymore because hopefully I won't have the pooch stomach and I will not yo-yo anymore. Any suggestions?

    vomitting?

Hi, I was just wondering how a really bad case of the vomitting flu could affect the sleeve? Is there a possibilitey that the up-chuck and strain could cause the sleeve to rip or maybe a staple pop out? Has anyone with the sleeve had the flu that could share their experience and if you had any complications?

NO MORE Fat Lazy Slug For Me!

Hi Wasa, You bring up an issue I've been wanting to ask for a while for suggestions. As I've mentioned, I had to move my sleeve date from June 28 to AUGUST 7. It seems so far away. I find myself wanting to pig out between now and then and eat everything I can because its the last time I'll be able to eat like a hog. I know this is probably not a good way to think. I should probably exercise and eat better and try to shed some pounds before my surgery. Anyone else go through this before your surgery? Rose

    Insurance in Mexico

Do you have to have special insurance to ride with Ernesto to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali since we're not driving? I never even considered insurance because I'm not driving.

had to change my date :-)

I had to change my surgery date from June 29 to August 7 :-( I am sad that it feels so long away, but by doing it this way, my husband can come with me to Mexicali, and I want to see him first thing when I get out of surgery. He is my rock. I just have to keep telling myself, its coming! :-)

    Breaking the bank??

I am financing through eFinancing. I was approved for $8000, so I need to raise 1500. What this co. did was send me a Visa credit card and my payments will be like payments for any credit card. Its not like a loan. I get the first six months no interest. Then starting the seventh month, it'll be 10. something plus the prime (which is about 3 something right now). I only agreed to this because in this economy, I don't think the prime will raise. So I am expecting no more than 15%. Its not great, but its what I need to do. My goal is to pay off as much as I can the first 6 months so that when my interest kicks in, it will be on a lesser amount.I am thinking my minimum payments will be 250 to 300 a month. Its going to make things tight. But the way I see it is I am investing for a long, healthy life.

    I Need a Boost-Me-Up- Please Help

I checked out all the insurance companies provided thru my husband's work. None them will cover the sleeve because its considered "experimental." I've considered the Bypass and Band, but I truly feel the sleeve is best for me. As for after care; I think about that all the time, and I don't really have a great answer to that. I know I can always go back to Dr. A, but it will cost me. I don't think Kaiser will cover me thru my insurance with them. Anyone who was a self pay in Mexico have anything to say?

    appetite and the sleeve

Hi everyone, I'll be getting my sleeve in two months. I've been really paying attention to my body lately and I'm noticing what an emotional eater I truly am. I eat for stress, boredom, loneliness, etc. etc. etc. First, do you still get the urge to snack, and if so, what do you do because you can't eat.

    Question for You Sleevers

What do you do when you need a big drink of water. You know, the times where we are so thirsty we can drink a gallon so to speak.Do you eventually get too full or do you remain thirsty but can't fit anymore in your tummy? Also, can you drink and eat at the same time. I know you can't with the band, but what about the sleeve?

    Carb Addict!!!!

Hi, I am a carb addict. I have never been crazy about meat. I need suggestions for Protein . Anyone? I love Mexican food, especially bean and cheese burritos. YUM. I love bread and other flour things. I know I am going to have to lay off my beloved carbs big time when I get my sleeve. I want to be successful, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Do you think slim fast is a good option for a Protein Shake? Or does it have too many carbs? I can tolerate shrimp, some chicken, and crane asada. But overall meat is a for me. What else can I eat for protein. Thanks for your help.

    I Need a Boost-Me-Up- Please Help

Thank you to everyone for your words of encouragment. I know in my heart what I need to do and I am going to make the journey, with or without my parents. The most important thing to me is that my man is by my side no matter what; whether I'm fat, thin, or in between. That's love. Honestly, I feel more bad for my hubby. When we sat down to talk about going to Mexico and the surgery in general, I told him to expect an attack towards him when my family finds out. Isn't is sad that I was right? Anyhow, enough with that, I'm not going to let it stop me. Thank you for your wonderful support. God bless. Rose

    I've got a date!!! :-)

Hi everyone, Well, after a lot of researching and thinking, I've decided to get the Sleeve. I'm scheduled to be sleeved with Dr. Aceves on June 29. I wish it were sooner, but work and school- you know the drill. I must say, for the first time in a long time, I feel hope, and I find myself smiling and my heart fluttering with excitment becuase I know that soon, I will be on my way to a thinner, healthier me. It's been such a long battle with so many failures. I feel hopeful that I will finally beat this thing; that I will finally allow myself to look in the mirror and that I will one day love myself. Thank you all for sharing your stories and for your advice. Rose

  21. Hi. I am 24 and have considered WLS for a long time. I really feel it is the right thing for me and my parents agree. But... they want me to wait until it will be covered under insurance. That sounds great to me, but here's the thing- I was already denied by stupid Kaiser and I am planning to switch to blue cross /shield in October during open enrollment. But I have a feeling they will deny me too or say I have to be a member or a certain amount of time. Anybody have Blue Cross/Shield? What is their deal? If Blue Shield doesn't work out, I want to self pay. I can afford it only if I go to Mexico. My parents are like nooooo way. They won't listen to me when I try to expain that there are good doctors, you just have to do your homework. I know that if I do go to Mexico, I will have no support and it will piss off my parents. My hubby will support me, but even he is iffy about it. I would love to have everything covered by insurance, but if it can't be, is it worth Mexico? Is it worth infuriating my mom and dad? Please- advice.

Soda, skins, pills and the sleeve

I am so thankful for all of you sharing your experiences. I was definitely headed for the band at first, but because of this forum, I discovered the sleeve and feel like I truly have found the tool to help me get the healthy life I've always wanted. I love love love diet coke too. I've been drinking the stuff since I was a kid. But if giving it up means I can wear the clothes I wore when I met my husband, I'm there yo! I guess I'll just become an ice tea and light lemonade freak instead of a diet coke queen. :-) Since you can't eant and drink at the same time anyhow, I think I'll manage. Rose

    I've got a date!!! :-)

Vega... Dr. Aceves is charging me $9500, and this includes everything but airfare. My mom and dad are against me going to Mexico, but after a lot of research and inquiry, I truly feel confident that I'll be in the best hands. I'll be saving half of what I'd pay here for the sleeve, and I believe the care will be superior to most found here. Look into it at least. :-) Rose

    I've got a date!!! :-)

Dr. Aceves is charging me $9500, which includes everything except airfare. My mom is way against going to Mexico, but from tons of research and questions to those who've already done it, I feel very comfortable with my decision. I'll be paying half of what I'd pay here and I'll believe with all my heart that I will be in the best hands. Look into it, and you'll find many good things.:-) Rose
