Need your imput/experience
I can only speak for my research that I did and my personal knowledge... Being that you suffer from depression, and given that you have to have apsychological exam- your physicains may or may not feel you are stable for the procedure- BULEEVE MEE.. it is an emotional rollarcoaster.... I too have had PCOS and thyroid conditions- For me personally I had a bajizillion co-morbidities and had letters of medical necessity from 5 different physicians including another surgeon (who doesnt do the procedure). Hope this helps. Good luck- Feel free to PM me with any questions...

What do you use for a Calcium supplement
I know there is Calcium Citrate and Calcium Carbonate- THey are different but I am unsure as to the difference- I use Viactive at my physicians request- before this I was on Caltrate.

Curves?
I just joined Curves 2 days ago and so far love it- It is a bit hard on some of the machines being wider and taller than most- But I agree that the support is totally there- and non judgemental as well- actually in my curves no one else has had any weight loss surgery so they are sort of using me as a guinea pig to see how well it works... talk about pressure... I am sore just afte 2 work outs- If you are newly banded they offer a discount for lap bands but you have to mention it- I paid 99.00 for reg fee and first month was free- then it is 34/month for 1 year- Normally it is 200 reg and 45 a month I figured it was like 1.05 a day and better than doing nothing- or walking alone- It is close to my house and only 30 minutes 3 times a week- once i get my stamina up I am goign to try more often... I can see how others say it got boring but mine is good about changing the music and they now have something new that puts resistance on the machines specifically for your fittness level it is cool how it works- all curves give youa pass to try before you buy so to speak but you generally have to ask.. good luck- let me know how you do.

Magic Bullet?
I have a bullet and love it tremendously- I bought it before my surgery at the reccomendation of a friend who was banded 5 years ago and swears by it. Up until I was on solid's I used it literally every day multiple times a day- I still use it for smoothies and for after a fill to make a mushie something... I also us it for dips and eggs- makes it easier to mix things- I am not familiar with a vita mix- I had a regular blender but it was very cumbersome and with the bullet it is idiot proof not to get the proper oz when making something....

No salad for me......
I have not had a whole salad since my surgery 4/2/09. About 2 weeks after being on solid's and testing foods I had a few bites and was fine- Today - Lunch was a salad- with chicken cheese and eggs- I chewed until the lettuce was liquid- within 2 hrs I had terrible pain and poopies (TMI :crying:) most of the afternoon- Once everything "cleared" I felt better- I was told that might happen when we "test" new foods....

Does anyone have Lymphedema?
I was diagnosed 2 years ago with Lymphedema in my lower legs. My cankles (how I call them) were huge and my calves soon became extremely large- I saw the vascular surgeon and he referred me for therapy- I went EVERYDAY for 2 weeks for banding and then wore compression stockings every day- Once the compression stockings started getting stuck where my legs meet my foot they told me I needed something more at night- ( I was wearing my stockings from 7:30 am t0 7:30 pm) so I got these Reed sleeves- they are like boots for your calves and have pressure straps that go up mimicing the banding and stockings- They are very cumbersome and I hate them plus they fall off at like 2am only after being on for about 4 hours because the swelling goes down. I was told my problem was due to my having auto immune problems, thyroid cancer treatments and being over weight and that when I lost weight the swelling would get better- My question is that if any of you have lympnedema and how long if you were cured did it take? I know there is no "cure" so to speak you just manage it from becomming worse and worse but I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO over it and am looking so forward to wearing skirts and sandles but am still too conscious of my lower legs to do so... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crying:

under active thyroid
I had thyroid cancer and have NO thyroid and had 3 para thyroids taken at the same time. I am on Levothyroxine 400mcg a day- It was a CONSTANT struggle to loose weight when 1st diagnosed years ago with thyroid problems- looking back I think if I may have been dx as a teenager things would have been different. Having a thyroid problem makes it all the more harder to loose weight with or without the band- my endo cautioned me about this way before my band was put in- She said it will help but like everything else not cure....

how many cc's for restriction 14cc
I have often wondered what happens when you have a 14 cc band or a 10cc band and reach the maximum on fills but are not losing weight and are following your program... do they re-band you again and start all over? It sounds like a dumb question but at soon to be 40 and already 2cc's doing the math by everyone else's fill schedules I should be "full- 14cc's" in a few years or so..... What then?
-
First fill
Yeah! I had my 1st fill 2day also-- but only 2cc's. How is it going for you? Any restriction? I tried to eat some soup for dinner- only had about 1/3 cup- didnt know if I was really full or just afraid to push it- 3 hrs later- I'm still not hungry-- guess it works?
-
When did you start getting hungry???
There are days I miss my post op liquids and I know that sounds CRAZY!!!! After getting to solids and no restriction I truly missed the full feeling- Now that I have 1 fill I am anxious to feel that 3day post op feeling......

AP Lap Band - The newer 'improved' band. (w/ pics)

First Fill
I literally had my 1st fill about 1 hour ago- I have had 8 oz of v8 juice and feel nothing! Don't know what to expect or actually what I was expecting- hopefully in 2 days when I can eat again- I will feel some restriction....

Heat, protein and frustration
I too live in Florida- I am fortunate to work inside an office all day but on the wknds I drink way over my 64 oz per day... I too get swelling but more from lymphedema than anything. Recently I visited SC for about 5 days and was out of "sync" from my day to day routine- Even though I made wise food choices and drank plenty of Water etc. I felt weird when I traveled back home- Sort of dehydrated but not sick. For me I think the routine I have established as far as eating on time and measuring and calculating each meal (planning each weak ahead of time) helps- I think it was more of a test and reassurance to me that I need to keep on track and stick with my routine as mundane as it may seem..

What rules were you given for the lifetime diet?
I was told by my dietician: 1. No drinking _0__ min. before meals? 2. No drinking _30__ min. after meals? 3. Must drink _64__ oz. per day? H2o, crystal lite, any SF drink /low calorie 4. Protein _80-90 gms per day. But 1-2 shakes (ie ensure, boost) 5. Total meal size 8-12oz per meal 6. Snacks or no snacks between meals? Snacks ok- Should be fruit, carrotts, Protein shake or cheese, cottage cheese etc. 7. Calories? 1200-1600/day 8. Any other rules? no gum, no soda, no rice

Flouroscopy anyone?
I just had my 1st appt for a fill today and my surgeon could not feel/find my port even with Ultrasound. I am scheduled on Monday to go the hospital to have flouroscopy done for my fill and he will put in 2cc's. Has anyone else had this? I was very frustrated but he said not to worry it isnt my fault. He also said the first few fills are the hardest because when you loose more weight it is easier to palpate the port... Also I found out that even though I gained some weight since being back on solid foods my total weight loss has equaled 2 lbs per week since surgery- so up and down like so many others... how do you deal with it?
