  1. Congratulations! What a great feeling, I'm sure I can't wait until I can proclaim 60 pounds gone for good! Way to go!
  2. I have BCBS of WI and was approved. There is another employee in the same school that I work in that had the band a little more than 2 months ago, so I knew it would be covered. There are also other school district employees that have had the full GB. I had to go through about 8 hoops, but I got the approval. I can't believe I go day after tomorrow!!!
  3. Congratulations on reaching your goal. Thank you for sharing your personal testimony. You're an inspiration and I wish you all the best.
  4. I agree with Shawn - the more you have wrong with you, the better chance you're going to have getting approval. I have obstructive sleep apnea and bilateral degenerative osteoarthritis of the knees and a BMI of 57.8, so as soon as I had benefits that would cover it I was approved.
  5. I am a former Afrin Addict...It got to the point where I had to have it to breathe and I had to have a brain scan because I was having bad headaches. It was from using the spray. They put me on Flonaise and weened me off of it. It doesn't take long to go back to the habit either, so I try very hard to not use it.
  6. Hello - I'm another one being banded on July 5th! Must be the "it" day...I live in Northwestern Wisconsin and I'm having my surgery in Duluth, MN. I have been married for 18 years and have a 14-year-old son. I am 5 days into my 2 week liquid diet - 9 days pre-op. I am having Slim Fast with added Protein powder for my shakes. I couldn't choke down the Carnation Instant Breakfast. I had three days of the "last supper" before starting my liquids last Wednesday. The first three days were hard, but now it's not so bad. Good luck to everyone!
  7. I'm 9 days pre-op and all I can have are liquids, so I'm dealing with that right now. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for suggestions and ideas for my post-op diet.
  8. I'm 9 days pre-op and have been on liquid since last Wednesday. I've cried every other day for one reason or another. My friend is a social worker and she says that I'm probably going through a greiving process - grieving the loss of food, the loss of my "crutch" and way of life. You could be going through that, too. I think she's right on with me and my situation. Know that you're not alone in this decision...that's what helps me.
  9. I am a Middle School Secretary - I work for one of 4 principals in our building. I just finished my first year and start my summer vacation tomorrow!! It is the best job I've ever had!
  10. I'm on my second day of my pre-op two-week liquid diet. Yesterday was fine except I had a headache when I went to bed and I woke up with one this morning. I think it's a sugar withdrawal. I've had the airheadedness as well. I am being banded on July 5th and it seems like it's so far off right now. I'm having a tough time with that Protein powder messing up the taste of my Slim Fast. I couldn't do the CIB - it made me gag...so I was told I could do Slim Fast. I put the milk and ice in a smoothie maker and then add the powder for a shake. Problem is I always had skim milk and now I have to have 2%, which is like drinking cream to me...and the vanillia Protein Powder cuts the chocolate flavor. I'm pretty much guzzling just to get it down. I had Jello for lunch. I'm hoping that the post op week of liquids goes better than this... I see your surgery is tomorrow - best of luck to you!
  11. I'm being banded the same day as you and I think you've got a point!! My curiosity is awful, but to actually see what you will be having done is maybe too much right now -
  12. Here's a suggestion - scrapbook!!!! If I'm not working, that's what I do - it's a bit of an obsession for me. But you could make a scrapbook that you can add to documenting your journey to the new you! I plan to do that
  13. Kurt, congrats on the 11.2~~I'm about to start the induction diet - Surgery date July 5th...I wish you the best of luck!
  14. Hello all - I'm Stephanie - 39 - married for 18 years with one son, 14 years I am being banded in Duluth, MN on July 5th. I am a secretary for a principal at a middle school. I have 10 more days of work and then I'm off for 8 weeks. I'm looking forward to taking the summer to concentrate on me and my recovery from surgery.
  15. I take Welbutrin XL and Zoloft together for Depression, and Naproxen for my arthritis pain...plus Tylenol Arthritis, glucosamine sulphate and a one a day. My surgeon said some of them can be changed to smaller doses more frequently to keep me on my meds and let them go down. Great tips for taking them. Thanks.
  16. I agree - in a couple of weeks, you'll can tell me what to expect, too. I'm 28 days pre-op. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow morning. I'm sure it will be just fine. Sending prayers and hugs.
  17. What if you can't stand the taste of yogurt? There used to be this stuff called "Kissle" that was like chocolate pudding but yet a yogurt and I liked that, but the regular yogurt taste, even if it's got fruit in it, I just can't do. I do, however love cottage cheese and usually add diced peaches. So could I add peach juice for flavor? I'm 28 days til I get banded and see the dietition on the 16th. I'm assuming I'll be starting my pre-op diet on the 21st. Thanks for any advice!
  18. I've been a lurker for about a month, but now that I am officially on the calendar, I thought I'd join in some discussions. I just got the call yesterday - I'm getting banded on July 5th. I work for our school district, so I will be done with work for the summer on June 23rd and I don't go back until the end of August. So I'll have 6 weeks post-op to just concentrate on myself. They were really good about getting me in in the time frame that I needed. Good luck to you!
  19. Hope things are going well for you. I just received my call to schedule yesterday! July 5th is my magic day...I'm so happy I found this site!
