  1. So sorry you are having some complications. I hope that your recovery will be speedy and with ease. Praying for your comfort and wellness...
  2. Congrats Wendy, welcome to the world of sleeve!
  3. Another great one from you Tiff...thanks.
  4. Tiff thanks for putting up that excerpt-I will bring it with me to educate my surgeon...(I'm not kidding). I think he sort of lumps the sleeve with the rny and figures it's a safer bet to say no to nsaids.
  5. My nutritionist was not too concerned about carbs with me since I was struggling to get in even 400 calories the first 3 months at least! She did tell me to steer clear of rice, bread, pasta, etc. because they would swell up in my sleeve. I use stevia to sweeten my coffee and I drink decaff, mostly. I found a delicious vanilla-caramel tea in case your interested by Biglow. I add a little Silk organic Soy Milk or Almond Milk and one packet of stevia and I get the same satisfaction as if I were drinking a latte from Starbucks--hardly a carb in that.
  6. My surgeon told me the same thing-no more Motrin-I said "EVER? An 800 mg Motrin is the only thing that takes the edge off of the migraines I sometimes get!" Then he said, "well maybe once in a while but not on a regular basis...take tylenol for pain." I hope your info is correct and that these surgeons are using the RNY protocol instead of the sleeve when they say "no" to ibuprofen.
  7. Oh Tiff! I'm wondering what I look like from inside! My gall bladder was yanked in '76 I was so young then in 2005 I had an open "incisional" hernia repair w/mesh, (due to scar tissue from that gallbladder operation). God only knows how my VSG surgeon was able to pull it off laparoscopically with all that scar tissue inside!
  8. Congratulations on your WL victory! I don't like swimming in chlorinated water but as soon as the weather warms up I intend to get out there and swim in the salty old LI Sound and often. Being that you are a surgeon it's great to have your testimony. Thanks so much for posting. Best wishes for continued success.
  9. I'll tell you what I like. I don't know if it's the best and eat about half a bar occasionally--Zone-peanut butter/chocolate- I don't have any on hand but if I recall the protein count per bar is 16gm. The carb count is around 26, (I think) but I only eat about half when I do. I like them for the taste and they sort of melt away in my mouth. I also like them because they are not artificially sweetened.
  10. Congratulations on your decision to have the sleeve and thanks for sharing your WL journey. You have a great attitude and I wish you continued success.
  11. From the get go (in the hospital) I sipped on near freezing juice-apple juice over ice chips. When I got home I did the same. I also enjoyed sipping on warm broth, chicken, beef, vegetable... I only have trouble with plain water, tap, bottled, filtered no-matter if it's water I have trouble, (and I'm 7 months out!) I drink Vitamin Water and mix it 50/50 with water then stick it in the freezer so it gets slushy the way I like it.
  12. I have been going to OA meetings since shortly after my surgery. I find it very helpful. I attend a fairly large group on Saturday mornings from 10-12 noon. It helps me to be around people who are dealing with how they emotionally relate to food and eating. I give it a thumbs up.
  13. Thanks...best wishes in your WL journey!
  14. I think the emotions you are feeling are normal. Feelings may vary however it is a major surgery that has a profound effect on your life. My surgeon told me that fever and infection, inability to keep anything down are common signs of a leak. At this stage I would focus on following the protocol of keeping yourself hydrated well and doing what is possible to consume as much Protein as possible, walk much and rest too...that is the best way to avoid a leak. Little by little your mind will adjust to the changes and feelings may brighten up as you see your body slimming.
  15. Ditto here-your attitude is one of acceptance and optimism and I pray that you will be successful through whichever door it is you walk through on your WL journey. God speed and blessings.
  16. Cool I just watched your first vlog post and sent you a comment!
  17. You are doing so well in pacing yourself and making the best of fulfilling the requirements to gain the approval of your insurance. The time you take in therapy and self reflection now, will prove to be such a benefit for you when making post surgery adjustments. Thanks for writing. I'm glad you decided to blog and look forward to reading more from you.
  18. Hullo??? Alex it looks like we are being invaded by spammers!
  19. Your doing excellent and I'm happy for you.
  20. I like to cook up some fresh baby leaf spinach and add a little bit of extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and a bit of fresh chopped garlic. I boil then drain the spinach but it's still a little watery and slippery so when I eat small cut up pieces of chicken I take some spinach on the fork along with it and it really helps it to go down. I do the same with steak.
  21. Pre op diet for me was 2 protein shakes and one light and healthy meal. That meant I would eat lots of veggies (healthy carbs) and any tasty meat or fish preperation, w/or without cheese. I also ate a couple of peices of fresh fruit each day. I lost 16lbs before my surgery. I started the diet 4 weeks before my surgery.
  22. That's so interesting, I had a constant nagging alive and kicking libido pre surgery and since my VSG it's gone! It's like I've no feelings whatsoever. It feels as though it was removed along with my stomach! I wonder if it will ever return.
  23. Wow

After reading your blog posts I wish I would have blogged pre surgery. Had I, it may have helped me get through the post surgery fear/anxiety and depression I experienced so profoundly. You are really ahead of the 8-ball and that's admirable. I usually don't push this surgery since I've personal reservations, however after reading your post, I totally support your decision. I think it will be very rewarding.
