  1. I am from Nashville too, so my first step was going to my surgeon. Dr. Morton at Baptist is one of the best in the area and he has an insurance team that walks you through everything!! I went to a free insurance consult with a girl named Ebony in their office. It was quick and she explained everything I needed to do and she took it all out of my hands. I was approved within a week and my surgery was about a month and a half later. Everywhere is different, but it is worth calling his team to find out if you like them.
  2. There isn't any reason you can't have a steak- infact I eat one about every other day. It is a great source of protien! If you are PBing after every meal, then it seems you might be too tight. It shouldn't be that often that you PB. The band isn't torture, you should be able to have things you love in moderation and small amounts.
  3. I never fluctuate in weight, so for me to gain a half a pound worries me. However, I got on the scale this morning after being on liquids for 2 days now after my 2nd fill on Tuesday to find that I had gained 2 pounds! How could this be? All I had yesterday and the day before was 2 protien shakes & chicken broth with pureed chicken! I am frustrated for the first time in the process and just cant understand how this is possible. Has this happened to anyone else?
  4. Good luck tomorrow! You will do great & welcome to the band journey! :cool2: To answer your question about cheating on the preop diet... no i didn't.
  5. I had wondered the same thing... I had lost like 25 pounds before I needed to go down a size. I kept thinking, when will my pants size change. Then I went to visit my parents out of town and my Mom told me my clothes were just falling off. Turns out she was right and I tried on a smaller size & it fit perfectly. I guess I still had the old image of myself in my head. Just to give you a little of an idea, I am 5 foot even and weighed 218 to begin with, I needed to loose 88 pounds. I was at about 190 before I changed a size. I am now at 186 and can tell less pounds now, make a bigger difference. However, people still say the most dreaded phrase to me "I can REALLY tell in your face" and my response in my head is always, COME ONE PEOPLE, I DIDN'T LOOSE 32LBS (so far) IN MY FACE!! God luck, it wont be long now until you feel extra room in your garmets!
  6. Mine was great too- 4.8 in my 10cc band. My next fill is Tuesday...and thank goodness, b/c I don't have a bit of restriction.
  7. Thanks for all of your advice- I got a 2 week free trial, so I will test it out. If I decide to go with it.. it is only $37 a month. I will let you all know how it goes.
  8. I am just wondering, have any of you used Curves or known anyone who has? I have always failed misserably with excersize, but now I feel that I have my food intake under control, after 3 months of making a new life style for myself. I believe I am ready to under take a new excersize routine and be sucessful at it! I would love to try Curves, but wonder if you get a good work out from it... Thanks for any advice you all may have!
  9. Well, I am 1 month post-op and alive to tell about it. Really, I haven't had one single complication...-knock on wood- I have had good weightloss and love my band! I hope that helps- please let me know if you need someone to talk to, I am all ears!
  10. Oh yea, that is normal. Mine is the same way. I actually just asked my doctor about it a few days ago and he said it should go away in about a year. It is just scar tissue and sometimes that can cause a numbing sensation.
  11. Why would you want to start again? Think of it as a fresh start!
  12. Same here, I was in the middle of mine and he said all was good. I just had a pad on until right before surgery..not sure what measures they took during surgery.
  13. I have the AP Lapband...I was banded on the 27th of March.
  14. I will admit, I was nervous for my first fill after reading bad fill stories. However, I was pleasently surprised to find it to be quick & easy! First my doctor just numbed the area with a small needle then injected 4.8 cc's of saline into my 10 cc band, while he had me drink a glass of Water. The whole process was quick and easy..the worst part is being on liquids for 48 hours! I will be on mushies tomorrow, which is nice...just in time for my 23rd birthday! :w00t: Just thought I would share a happy fill story!
  15. It took me about 6 days and even then ended up getting perscribed a supository (sp) to make the magic happen!
  16. Well, when you have surgery they pump you FULL of liquids all day long and with the fluid retention & swelling, you are bound to weigh more. I weighed about 4 pounds more for a couple of days and then that plus 3 pounds came off. You will loose it.
  17. I have it and it took me 3 days! Good luck! :rolleyes2:
  18. Christy, I am in a simmilar time frame as you, as I was banded on March 27th. I too went on my first long weekend trip this past weekend with my husband to the mountains. I planned ahead and bought my food like yogurt, cottage cheese, and turkey lunch meat then packed that into a cooler. That way I had my Breakfast and lunch food with me at the hotel, which meant I had no need to go get stuff from a bad source. We did go out to eat for dinner, my first time since surgery, and I made a meat and veggie choice. Like you said, it is your new lifestyle and more than likely you won't even feel temptation, because this new lifestyle has become habit. My best advice is equip yourself with healthy Snacks and try to make good choices. Don't expect to loose over that weekend, but you should be able to maintain at the same weight. I also made a point not to take my scale with me, b/c I didn't want to obsess over not loosing. You can do it!!! Good luck and most importantly have fun!!
  19. Congrats to you both! It is good to hear you are doing well now! Good luck on your journey! :sneaky:
  20. Your liver is incredibly resilient (sp) and can repair itself very quickly. So, if you are worried about what damage you have done in the past, I wouldn't. That is what the preop diet is for, to shrink your fatty liver. If you stick to the preop diet, you have no reason to worry. Good luck & it is worth it!!!
  21. I have experienced simmilar situations twice now too. My surgery was March 27th and I will loose 1 or 2 lbs and stop for a good 5 days or so then it will start again. I have only lost 7lbs since surgery, but the bright side is we are loosing! You are doing great, it is normal to experience things like this when you are introducing new things in your diet.
  22. Do any of you ever wake up in a scare that you have just consumed food that you shouldn't have? I am having them on a weekly basis! The most recent one was of comsuming an entired Dr. Pepper and I wok up and freaked out!! It is hilarious to think that food is my new nightmare!
  23. Not to be neggative, but you really need to buckle down and become commited to the preop diet. It is for your own safety, as you really don't want to go through all this for your doctor to open you up and not be able to do the surgery. You can do this, but you have to become determined. You only have a few days left before your BIG day, you really need to stick with it through this short period of time.
  24. I had minimal gas, but what I did have was stuborn gas! For about a week it was stuck under my left rib. I am 2 weeks postop now and feel back to normal. A few of my incissions are still a little sore, but the gas has since left.
  25. Oh gosh I was the same way and still struggle with it! I will see a billboard or commercial witha a huge burger on it and all the sudden my mouth will start watering! It doesn't even have to be something I really like, if it is something bad for you, I want it! Luckily, I have not given into that temptation and everyday gets easier. Since I have been banded, it has gotten a lot better, but before in the preop stage, I would dream about food! I never even knew how obsessed I really was until I started my journey! It is truely eye opening!
