Milk of Magnesia MISTAKE
OMG I am sooo sorry to hear about this. No one needs anymore pain than they are already dealing with. Thank you so much for sharing and saving others to the possibly having to go through that as well.

May 6th Surgery Stories
So glad to finally hear from other may 6thers. Glad to hear everyone is surviving. I was told these where to keep the blood circulating which helps prevent blood clots. I just wanted to give you all an update. But first I am curious as to where everyone's port is located because that is the only place I am sore and I wonder how that might effect gas, and how well you are able to get around. Mine is located about 2 inches under my breast bone. This is making it difficult to sit up or lye down but once in position I am fine. It is also painful to burp. I mentioned earlier that I am a wuss when it comes to pain, so I have been taking my Lortab elixir every 4 hours. I was unable to sleep lying down so I slept in a recliner last night. Had a heating pad on my incision mostly all night. I basically get up from my recliner every 2 hours to go to the bathroom and walk around a bit. I haven't walked around the block or anything, but I do go out side and walk around the yard a bit and then come back in. Will probably go for a short walk later this evening. I have been able to drink liquids and have had 3 Protein shakes today and 3 12oz bottles of Water only sipping a little bit at a time. Have not gotten nauseous thank God because it would be excruciating to throw up! I haven't had any gas pains in my shoulder but have had it in my lower abdomen (still painful) and I must say music to my ears once I pass it! I went into surgery about 9:15 and left the hospital by 12:30

May 6th Surgery Stories
Well I'm alive and home! Thanks Ann, and good luck tomorrow! Well going in this morning I wasn't nervous 1 bit. Really surprising, cause it doesn't take much to make me nervous. I went in to the OR about 9:30 and don't remember anything except them putting the oxygen thing over my mouth and told me to take a few deep breaths and that was it. When in the recovery room and upon waking I started becoming aware of my surroundings. The first thing I became aware of is a little pain at my port area and only place i felt any pain was where my port incision is and still is the only place i feel any at all. At first is was more of a burning sensation. I would say it was a 7-8 out of ten but the pain meds helped right away. First time it only took me to about a 4. 2nd shot had me feeling pretty good. I took a shot anytime they offered : ) Now the pain only feels like a did over 100 sit ups, but is tolerable. I have been able to drink Water (sips) and my throat is scratchy but not sore. I have a cotton mouth which is good because it keeps me sipping the water. I can get up and walk around but getting in and out of the chair is the hardest part. I'm not hungry at all which is good cause I was starving this morning. No nausea at all which is what I was really worried about the most. FYI- I'm really a baby when it comes to pain - so I hope everyone does as well as I have done so far.

May 6th Surgery Stories
Hey all, I thought I'd start a thread for all of us getting banded tomorrow (the 6th) a place to leave our stories so they are all in one place. That way we don't have a ton of new threads (not that there is anything wrong with that) Maybe we can have a thread for those on the 7th, 8th, ect. Alot of the threads say "banded yesterday" or tomorrow or something like that, but then tomorrow isn't tomorrow it end's up being 2 or 3 days ago and then I get so confused:huh2: Just an idea:rolleyes2: Update soon to follow.

Banded May 4th!!!!!!
Hey Nay- Glad to hear you are doing great. I think so far all the may 4th banditios had hernia repair. Pretty crazy. Nice that they can fix it while in there! Also Unjury's unflavored is awesome!!!!! You can put it in anything without changing the flavor and you seriously cannot even tell it's there. I've put mine in pudding, chocolate milk, chicken broth mashed potatoes and more. That's what's so awesome about it. You can't put the chicken soup in pudding or the chocolate in your chicken broth but the unflavored can go into ANYTHING! Again AWESOME STUFF!!

Banded Yesterday!!

3 weeks out from surgery and worried
The way my doc explained it to me is this... At first we are only to drink liquids because we are swollen and need to heal. The swelling causes restriction. That is why most of us feel restriction after surgery. As we heal and swelling goes down so does restriction. As the swelling goes down and the healing takes place we are able to eat more. So until we get our 1st fill it will be up to us to be in control. If it were me I would see if you can get your 1st fill around week 5. I hear alot of people get their 1st fill then.

The band with IBS?
Thanks for the info everyone. She definatly has the running to the bathroom kind and I realize she will have to talk to a surgeon and take many test. But her husband has Alzheimers and she would need to get someone to take care of him while attending a seminar and didn't want to even bother if she new it wasn't even going to be a possibility since she has IBS. I know none of you are doctors and I am not asking for professional advice. I just wanted to know if others with IBS has had the band or if it was even possible to get the band with IBS. It sounds like it is and this is very helpful information to pass along to her. I also know that everyone will have different results after the band, and hers may even get worse. The reason I like this forum so much is that there are many people with all kinds of experiences and it is a great way to get information from others who have been there done that. I would still like to hear from others who have had this condition so that I can share them with my sister. I would even like to hear any negative experiences from people who have IBS and the band if they do exist. Thanks to those who have already shared.

The band with IBS?
Hello, I have not had the band yet, but will on 5/6 and I have a sister that is older than me and has all kinds of issues. Sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes, ect. She also has irritable bowel syndrome and she is thinking about getting the band but would like to know if there are others out there who have ibs and the band and how they are doing. She doesn't have a computer and it is difficult for her to get out of the house to go to a seminar. I appreciate any information you have to offer.
-
Where is your port located
Well I'm glad to hear that there are others out there who have had it placed there. I had never heard about that placement before.
-
BMI 39-bcbs of north carolina
I have heard of others on here drinking lots of water before weigh in and even some who have place small weights in their bra, and others even eating salty foods a few days prior. You are so close to be turned away for one point. Over the last 15 years my bmi has been all over the place. My BMI was 43 so I didn't have gain weight, but I don't think I would have been beyond that if it came right down to it.

Pre-Op on May 4th
I went to my pre-op appointment a couple of days ago. I know just how you are feeling. After my appointment I was like "ah do I really want to do this" For me it's not so much fear of the surgery as it is the fear of not succeeding. My goal is to lose 70lbs as well, but won't be upset if I lose more ; ) I did not have to do a pre-op diet. Although every doc is different and yours may require one. From what I have heard it depends on where you carry your weight. If most of your weight is in your stomach you may have to. My weight is mostly below the waist. The whole point of the diet is to shrink your liver. Good luck!

Thinking about Lapband surgery and have questions!
I did not have to go through that with my insurance, but was wondering if you have ever talked to your pcp about weight loss attempts. I would think those attempts would be recorded in your charts. Might not hurt to find out what they have in your chart.

Where is your port located
Hello everyone, I am going to be banded on May 6th Yay!!! Anyway I went to a pre-op class and was surprised to find out that my port is going to be located just under my breast bone. I have done a lot of research on the band and had always heard that the port is placed closer to the waist line. I asked about this and they said the reason they have started putting it there is because it makes finding the port much easier. I was wondering if there are others on here with their ports placed there and how it is working for them. I just read a thread under post op thread where they have had problems with jeans effecting their port area and I am now wondering about my bra irrating my port area. I would love to hear from others who have their port placed there and how it is working for them.
