vicki s got a reaction from arukind in SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
Hi Cathy, I did have the GB done on thurs. the 1st, cant tell much right now because I am only on liquids...the surg was not bad, no worse than the sleeve and maybe less because there was no port to remove....I only lost 20lbs with the sleeve, and regained it back so I am so scare of "what if it doesnt work"...I know everyone tells me it will, but after the sleeve, I will not take anything for granted...I am almost 57, and I didnt want to wait any longer, want to start having a healthy life before I am tooooo old...LOL......Honestly I could not longer take the reflux....
another person I know in her 50's is having it done sept.19th...she sounds more like you, her stomach was bent in half and they removed scar tissue but she still has a stricture in the middle, so all her food sits on the top of her stomach...
I wish you the best of luck and when you decide it will be because you know you cant handle it anymore....PM me anytime...xoxox

vicki s reacted to Risky1 in I am having a problem
Been a while, Thought i would update. 9 months out now. I feel fantastic! down 160 lbs, can eat any food i want, no issues, just not very much. No, I don't eat any food I want to, i stick to Protein and high nutrient foods. I have seriously no desire for Pasta or breads... Items i lived on before. i also have very little desire for fried foods. they do not sit well at all.
Anyway, All told I spent 30 days in the hospital, 4 different occasions, 2 leaks, 4 surgeries, an unsuccessful stent placement and because of that 2.5 months of NPO absolutely nothing by mouth, no Water no food, nothing. TPN via IV. Surgeons and staff were awesome! very patient with me and my wife who at times were blaming them for what was happening.
Time, Time was what i needed. the first 6 months sucked in a big way. I looked terrible, malnourished, grey, gross.
then like a switch being turned on everything was different. it was amazing. one day i went from not being able to eat anything and having no desire to eat at all, to actually having a desire to eat and being able too! my energy level did a 180 degree turn and i haven't looked back.
I eat nuts, lots of nuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios. I also drink lots of milk, milk was a life saver I could not tolerate Water or sugar free gatoraid, etc. but 2% milk was wonderful, it was cold, had nutrition and filled me up. I lived on it for about a month while I was transitioning from TPN to eating. water just doesn't taste the same any more and is hard to swallow for some (i am sure psychological) reason.
typical daily diet now might include the following in any combination,
oat meal
string cheese
meat ( steak, chicken, turkey, ham etc.
Nuts
broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, squash, etc
tuna or salmon
other fish
Milk 1% or 2%
water
Protein Bar
I will also have a cookie or candy on occasion. I find that eating these items or similar, i have to really try hard to get to 2000 calories a day because i am very full all day long.
I look at pictures from last Christmas and I almost cry i was so big and gross. My wife, who is not big, is just happy to have the man she married back... she cant get enough touch and amazement that she can actually get her arms all the way around me again after 21 years..
They said i would, and they were right. Even after all the complications. I am so glad I did this and have no regrets. had told me that 5 months ago i would have said you were insane.

vicki s reacted to Tina727 in August 2013 surgeries
Hey everyone.. well for my wife and I, it has been almost 5 months since surgery. I am down 102 lb and my wife is down 85 lb.. she has hit the 67% and I'm 54% our surgeon is amazed at our progress.. When you hit 75% you have Reached the surgery success rate.. not your ideal weight but the fact that surgery was successful. Most don't hit that till 18 months out. I'm posting pics hopefully they go through. Lol. We're able to eat most anything. Except tuna, eggs, and milk. Boiled egg in salad seems to be ok. Other than that our lab work has been ok except Iron. So we are taking ferrous fumarate now.. other than that everything else is great. Oh we have also added Biotin because we are def starting to loose our hair.. that is a bit disappointing but hey its the risk you take I guess. Hope everyone is doing great.

vicki s reacted to Jessica22 in Daily calorie intake
I met with my nutritionist yesterday and she told me to intake between 700 and 900 calories. I have the surgery on December 20 so it may be different for you. She told me eventually I will be working up to 1200 cal. She also told me that yr intake should be 35% Protein, 35% Carbs and 30% fats. Hopefully this helps!

I try to stay between 800 and 1000. I wish my pouch was smaller. Nothing makes me sick either! I sometimes wish sweets would make me sick lol

That's exactly how I am... If I don't track, I could easily probably reach 1800 calories/day. I have to watch every bite that goes in to my mouth.
