You don't need to do any type of cleanse. If you take down the sugar. And go back to dense Protein you will really feel the restriction. Your tummy won't feel bigger if you say had some steak. But would with slider food. Just go back to basics and continue on. I'm on holiday so I am worrying Bout not losing as can't weigh food. Just eating Proteins and tiny amount of veg doesn't allow for.me to over eat. You got this. What is your Daily eating like

I'm with you. It's a relatively trivial (and vain) thing to worry about, but loose skin was the #1 reason I wouldn't even consider WLS for the past few years. I finally realized that my health was just more important and I'll deal with it the best I can if/when it happens. I work in healthcare and know quite a few people who have gone through this surgery. Some look great! Others look like they're melting with all the saggy skin. But the ones who haven't had issues all say they made sure to get their Protein in. I keep hearing that the #1 cause of saggy skin is lack of protein. Even the nurses at the bariatric center for excellence (where I'm a patient) who have had WLS told us the same thing in our pre-op class: protein, protein, PROTEIN! They say the #2 priority is hydration, #3 exercise. While I realize everyone will be different, I'm planning on taking their advice. I just hope I'll be able to get in the protein I need to post-op! How's that going for you so far?

I can not believe I am at my 1 yr anniversary already. Seems just like yesterday I was getting ready to go into surgery. I have to say best decision I made. I am down 80 pounds as of today:) My family have been very supportive from the start of my journey and I am so, grateful to all of them. I could not have done it with out them. Looking to get the other 20 pounds off and I will be at my goal I set for myself.
Congratulations to everyone on here to becoming a healthier you!!!

There are some people that despite the procedure keep eating poorly. The WLS is not a cure. So the statistics show that.
Long term success and losing more than 65% will come down to the person and their food choices and the activity they add to their life.

You are expected to become more active when you start losing weight. Those who do will eventually hit their goal weight. Those who don't, end up only losing the 65%.

My husband and I were talking about this today. I have more of a goal shape rather than a goal weight. If I have to pick a weight I'm going with the weight I was at 18 years ago, before I got pregnant with my youngest. That number is still too high according to the incredibly antiquated BMI charts but I was in the best physical shape of my adult life at that time. I was toned, looked good in clothes, and was wearing a size of clothing that made me happy. That shape is my goal.

Thanks so much for your response! I've been doing more and more research and although I'm uncomfortably big, im not quite sure if I'm so ready to take these steps!! It is life changing. I spoke with other co workers today about this same thing. Many are doing it because it's trending at work instead of actually researching. I think I would rather wait a few more years myself before taking the big leap. I just don't know if my mind is strong enough at this point

You can't make someone want to do it. You can suggest it, but ultimately they have to be 100% on board with it. This is especially true if your insurance is paying for it and requires a psych evaluation to be completed prior to surgery approval.

this is something you really should not try to talk someone into. They must be ready to take this journey for themselves. You have to want this for you and be committed to change your lifestyle and choices.

I just signed up for a date. August 15, 2017 @ OCC with Dr Ariel Ortiz. I was banded in 2009, had good success but ran into some troubles this past year. Hoping there are no complications and I can have the band removed and Sleeve done in one operation.

I revised my band to the sleeve in march 2017 with only 25lbs max overweight, I no longer have co morbidities due to my weight loss with the band 7ys ago when I lost 140lbs, my band too was slipped and although I no-longer had Fluid in the band, due to complications my surgeon recommended it be removed and gave me the option to revise, I decided to do it because I wanted to continue to have a tool to assist me in weight loss and maintenance and I also felt the same way with food never being a friend, Once the fluid was removed from my band And I could actually swallow my own saliva again I would go out of control at times with food, it was always a battle. Eating now with the sleeve is so different. No chest pain, no stuck feeling, just actually fullness when I have had enough. It's great.

Im not morbidly obese and Im revising. I reached my goal weight with the band and kept it off for 7 years but one little overfill ruined everything for me. I couldn't even swallow my own saliva and had reflux like I never thought possible. Barium swallow revealed slipped band and surgeon suggested revision after removal. The last three months without my band "off switch" have been so bad for me. food and I are never going to be friends without some additional help for me. I accept that now and while people tell me how "stupid" I am for doing this when I dont look overweight - they dont know about my issues with food behind closed doors.

Well folks, we made it:thumbup:. Who would have thought 3 months ago that we would have made it to where we are today? I hope everyone is doing great and is happy with their progress so far. I couldn’t be happier:biggrin:. I am on my second fill and am down over 60 pounds (BMI is now under 30). I’m not done, but I definitely see a light at the end of the tunnel. I am fitting into clothes I haven’t worn in years, people are really noticing the weight loss, and unlike any diet in the past I feel satisfied (from a hunger perspective) most of the time. I feel like I am really starting to know how to interact with the band inside me.

    How are you doing?

I actually loveeeee fitness now. Like many of you, I didn’t at first. It was a chore, but I did because I had a goal. But then I found something that I truly enjoy (for me, it’s running and Triathlon). Now I have a passion for it. I’m a middle of the pack guy in the races I compete in. I don’t ever see myself competing for a top spot on the podium but I do consider myself an athlete all the same. I run, bike, or swim 5-6 days a week and really really enjoy it. I no longer do it for weight loss because I am at goal, now I do it because I enjoy it and I know it is good for my overall health.
Allison, I don’t mean to be rude – but that is a careless comment and one that can give people false hope.. While there may not necessarily always be a link between exercise and weight loss, there is actually a concern about the type of weight you lose. You want to lose fat, not muscle. For the first 6 months after banding my weight was flying off without exercise, but I found out that I was losing too much muscle. I know this because I had proof by way of a hydrostatic dunk test. After that discovery, I started eating more Protein and got into a regular exercise routine. I was quickly able to turn the trend around and started to gain muscle and to lose fat. I got down to 15% body fat and have never looked back.

I lost about 60% of my weight prior to starting to exercise. The problem is that at some point I started to lose muscle rather than fat. I know this to be the case because I actually had a dunk test that accurately described my body composition. After starting exercise, the trend line got much better. I started losing weight faster, and it was actually fat – in fact I gained muscle. That muscle gain and fat loss took me down to about 15% Body Fat (this is not BMI, there is a difference). The trick is finding something you enjoy and will stick with. I never thought I of all people would enjoy running, but now I log about 20 miles a week – go figure.

Hey...what can I say...I was pretty annoyed when I made this post and while I have cooled down...I still pretty much feel the same way...I don't want to do this the unhealthy way...I want to do it the healthy way. I want to be active and toned not only for my body...but for my mind. I went into this wanting to change my lifestyle- that means not only eating less, but getting off my butt and working out everyday. How can I make a lifestyle change if I'm still sitting on the couch all day? I really do think you need both for more ways than one.
And Kartman is very right...your body is designed to MOVE...it is SO unhealthy to just waste away your muscles with no exercise and fast weight loss...and no muscle is what causes loose skin!!!!!!

    g75funk,
I'm with you. Just a little over 3 years out for me, at goal weight, and loving exercise. I started out in the gym and totally loved, but then I discovered running and Triathlon and am now I’m even more hooked on it. I run, bike, or swim 6 days a week and positively LOVE it. I never liked to exercise when I was heavy because it was so awkward and difficult – now I can’t get enough.

To those of you who say you don't have time for exercise or you don't like to...I'm sorry but to me all I hear is excuses excuses. Yeah you may have a busy lifestyle but after getting the lapband put into your body to make a "lifestyle change" how can you do that without getting some exercise in? What is an hour out of your entire day? You have 23 hours to do everything else you need to do..and if you know you will tone your body and loose even more weight from it why wouldn't you take advantage of that? I think you guys need to step it up and quit making so many excuses...I have a life too...a job, family, boyfriend, pets, house to take care of, appts to go to in between everything else..and every single night I come home and get my exercise in. I have lymophdema in my legs and as much as it hurts to be on my feet and my ankles are so big it looks unhuman but I do not miss it...because I didn't get this lap band put in me to just sit back and watch the weight fall off...I'm working my ass off and don't understand why you can't either!!!
Do you want to end up like the people on here who are making a post in 1 or 2 years saying they only lost 30 pounds? If not, you need to make the change now...and if you don't want to..then I really don't understand why you got the band in the first place.
