  1. I went to see my doc today. He said that our chemistry is so screwed up that it makes it VERY hard to convert the fat we have stored into glucose to burn it and that when we are in the "green zone" or the "sweet spot" when we are not hungry and our band is doing it's job - then it fixes the chemistry and we can burn better. He looked at my weight today (only 2kg down since 3wks ago) and he said "oh, you're hungry" and gave me a fill. I still feel hungry but will go for another top up on wednesday if still hungry. Basically, just chill, the first month is healing, your body is adjusting to this both physically and emotionally. Give yourself some love and time to adjust. I know it's hard but tell yourself it will be a while before you get to the green zone and it won't happen till you've been filled and until then, just breathe! You WILL get there!
  2. You need a fill love, go back to your Doc and get another fill, some people need to be mostly full to stop being hungry. Lose the guilt - what's your crime? You just need support and you need to go back to the doc. My doc said to me the band doesn't fail people - its when people fail to show up for fills and support that they fail. Just make an appointment. You do need to take pills for your blood pressure as well - take control of this! You are in charge! You can do it!!!!
  3. You just need a fill honey, keep going back till you get the sweet spot - that's all. Don't BEAT YOURSELF UP!! Go back to your doc. x
  4. Saw my doc today - for a fill, don't think it was enough - still hungry. He said call tomorrow if still hungry. He says you should not be hungry at all when you are in the green zone and he also said "the band does not fail, patients fail to turn up" which is interesting. I cannot WAIT to stop being hungry I inhaled my dinner tonight SO BAD. He also looked at my weight and said "oh, so you're hungry" was pretty interesting
  5. My skin has actually got worse since I was banded and I have had to go back onto Spironolactone. I have not had much of an issue with excess hair. Anyone else have an acne flare up?
  6. I had my first fill this morning. I don't know if it's made any difference though. Maybe restriction wise? But I am hoping for the green zone - where there is no hunger or interest in food. He said to make an appointment tomorrow if I am not there yet. I wonder how long it takes to take effect - sounds like it should do immediately? I am worried about having more time off work though - my boss was mad about me coming in late today - and the surgeon only has 9-5 appointments. I might make one for next week perhaps? Did anyone else who had their first fill get instant relief from hunger? xx
  7. Hey there I did the same I must confess. As long as you're honest with yourself and your portion sizes and it goes down I think it's okay - although I was very anxious going to my 1mth appt today wondering if the band had slipped as I was eating real food from the beginning of wk 2. Try to keep your Protein up - that will be what is making you lethargic. Hang in there!
  8. Went for my first fill today - and the doc said that based on data of people my age and weight etc - my expected goal should be 87kg. I was like ERRRRR, my goal is 72kg! Whatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt???!!!
  9. Oh darling, I feel your pain. I felt so down in the dumps after my surgery. So many emotions going on, like "what have I done to myself?" "why did I have to resort to this" "what if I fail?" "I am so scared!!" and you don't have your old faithful friend food there to help you. Please believe me that this is temporary. You are probably feeling nauseous because of the anesthetic (some do, some don't) and because you now have a band around your tummy - which it's not used to! You will start to feel better, but it will take a few weeks till you feel "normal" again, but you will get there. I got really depressed when I was at home for two weeks after surgery, felt like I was all alone and scared about what lay ahead and no one understood, and that I looked in the mirror and I was still a fat blob and it was all for nothing! Hang in there though - I am now nearly 5 weeks post op, and I feel great. I had my first fill today - and the hunger that had returned has gone. You will get there, to the place where you feel like your old self AND then some, you will feel like the hotter thinner version of yourself!! I made a scrapbook (even though I am not much of a scrapbooker) of each month and I am doing update photos each month and then putting them in the scrapbook, filling the pages around them with hot pictures of models and cool clothes and motivational words cut out from magazines. It may sound naff, but its fun and makes me feel optimistic. Think of the future, and make sure you join us on here for pick me ups whenever you need it - we have all been there!xx
  10. Hey guys Here's the updated spreadsheet for 1st May weigh ins! Thinwithin, keeping a record and making a fuss about who is the "biggest" loser of the week is motivating for me, so thought that others might find it the same, but agree, it might seem a bit like a competition - but this was not my intention at all. I will just keep updating the spreadsheet for those who want to be on it, but anyone is free to post on this thread and not be on the spreadsheet if they don't want to! Between all of us we have lost nearly 500lbs since on this journey already. Unreal! We are on our way baby!! Band Groupie - 17LB IN ONE WEEK!! YOU ROCK! friday1may2003.doc

  14. Beth T - how are you feeling 1 day after your fill?
  15. I went back to the gym at 2.5 weeks after surgery. I took it quite easy for that first week, and I have only been doing 30mins of cardio (bike, cross trainer, and tredmill) even this week, but I have upped the intensity so I am getting my HR up to 150+ and getting a good work out. Feels fine - just like it used to. The first week back though I had NIL energry. Just listen to your body - don't do any ab work - and be kind to yourself, exercise is good but not if it compromises the journey by injuries!!
  16. I am so glad you posted this! Thank you! I was banded 2nd April and I can eat anything - even bread!! I am still trying to eat mushy-ish things so that doesn't help I guess. Going for my 1mth f/up on the 5th I think, so hopefully I get a fill. I am starting to wonder if they have put a band in there!? Feels like nothing has changed!!!!!!! WHAT IF THIS DOESNT WORK!!!
  17. I don't have a regular partner, but I can tell you that with all the emotional crap going on in my brain during pre-op diet and then post band, I could not feel less sexy and into it than ever. I think your wife is just feeling insecure, which is probably partly that you're not putting out at the moment, but also they say a lot of partners get anxious about what their partners will look like after banding, and feel insecure about if their partners get "hot and thin" they might leave them. Maybe that has something to do with it? Reassure her you will love her no matter what and that she's the sexiest woman alive etc etc.
  18. ************************ FRIDAY WEIGH IN 1st May 2009 *********************** Yay! It's May! Welcome to this week's weigh in! If you want to have your BMI recorded each week also - then let me know your height and your goal weight. You can have a first and second goal if you want - and I will add them to the spreadsheet. I weighed in this morning at 127.1kg which is great! I have finally lost 10kg in total!! 10.3kg to be exact! I was really glad as I thought I'd put on. I look forward to hearing about everyones' losses this week!! xxx
  19. Hey BigMama Don't worry until you know. Exercise tests pick up a lot of false positives and have a lot of false negatives too. They will just want to double check with a more specialised scan. Hang in there! xx
  20. Only been banded 4 weeks but I don't regret it. I understand the doubts but 2% of people can do this by themselves and keep it off. If you are sure you're not that 2% then go for it, it will add 20 yrs to your life!
  21. My Doc told me that he has done 1400 surgeries, and he had four complications. One man had undiagnosed cancer, and the three others were smokers who all crashed on the table and needed to be resucitated. The reason why is As mucus clearance from lungs is accomplished by cilia, which are hair like projections lining inside of, the lungs constantly move dirt, bacteria up into the throat. Smoking paralyzes cilia so no more clearance and lungs become clogged with thick secretions of mucus ,bacteria and dead cells with infection is more likely to occur. Also, Inhaling nicotine causes release of adrenaline, which is known to increase heart rate; blood pressure and this in turn will increase the oxygen demand of the heart. However, smoking reduces the oxygen available to tissues so will result in the heart not having enough oxygen and possibly a heart attack occuring. Smoking also induces liver enzymes that metabolize drugs used for induction and maintenance of anesthesia making action and duration of these drugs less predictable. Emergence from anaesthesia is usually not smooth, breath holding, laryngeal spasm, bronchospasm, hypoventilation and hypoxia can occurpostoperative pulmonary complications including atelectasis, chest infection or pneumonia is common. The incidence of these complications is increased 5 folds in smokers compared to non-smokers. Wound infection a study comparing risk of respiratory complications and wound infection in patients undergoing ambulatory surgery in smokers versus non smokers concluded an increased risk in smokers. Hope this helps.
