Girl, You can do it. I started at 337+,I lost 37lbs before surgery and I am currently at 274 only five weeks post op. When you go to the orientation, they will give you a pre-op diet to follow, let that be you tool. The program works, some of us had to doc it up a bit. I personally don't do well with carbs at all and so eating less of the carbs helped a lot and the weight loss was quicker. It is a four hour class and be there ontime. You'll get a lot of information and will have many questions after. We will be here to help get them answered. If you want to get in earlier I would call Richmond and ask if you can attend the earlier orientation. That's what I did.

Hi Tamra, Welcome to the group. Yes you have to lose at least 10% of your current body weight. Don't diet until your orientation. When is it? You can lose weight, the band for most part is only a tool to help you get to your desired weight , don't be fooled even with the band you have to work at it (right Ladies?). The good new is that we have a wonderful support team here and we are all in the same boat. :blushing: Cheers, Reggie

Candra, He watches me like a hawk. Some men are like kids, you need to reassure him that this about your health then vanity. I had to read my husband the riot act the day before my case manager meeting because he accused me of talking to a male friend from high school. That put a stop to the foolishness. It will all be well once they realize that we are not going to be fat wives forever:-). Candra you are so close to goal, I say work on getting under 205 and get your surgery date. You actually lost 8lbs between the time that you saw the surgeon and your psych appointment, girl you've got this !!!!!!! Go on!

Candra, I say to hell with what your husband thinks about WLS. Please remind him that WLS is a tool and that you ARENOT going to automatically drop all your weight in an instant without work. The surgery process alone takes a lot of determination and self control. Some men get intimidated when their wives lose weight for the fear that someone may admire them. I got that from my husband, even though he was totally supportive he still reaked of jealousy lol. Girl get your weightloss on and DONOT be discouraged. We are here to support you all the way. Keep up the good work and get your surgery done. You won't regret it. Reggie

Astera, you are welcome! If you are doing protein shakes I would definitely limit it to 1/4 cup. The 1/4 cup I swear by. my doctor does not allow protein shakes. What i did was I blended clam chowder soup. It actually tasted good for a week or so and I was done with it lol. I hate mushies but unfortunately I have to follow the plan. When i get full I feel pains in my shoulder and that's the sign for me to quit. Best wishes Heather!

Hi Ladies, I hope all is well with you all. I won't be able to make it tomorrow but will be there in spirit :-). I have several meetings tomorrow. So i need major help. I cheated for the first time post op. I was able to the sausage and cheese off a combination pizza and when I got home my husband fried some plantains( Large bananas) I had 4 tiny pieces and my band did not budge. I haven't pushed t to the limit yet and today was the first. It's almost the time of the moth and 'm thinking may be the reason for this head hunger fiasco. i hope the scale have mercy on me:eek:.

Post-Op Blues
Hi Linsay, Yes I felt like I could eat a whole cup of food, however the truth is your system can only take the 1/4cup. I know it is tough to drink liquids and eat mushies. I pureed Clam Chowder ready to eat soup for two weeks. I tried to avid the high carb foods. As I told Astera, follow the plan my dear, you made the right choice. I went through the same head hunger deal and questioned my decision but as of today, I will do it all over again.

Hi Astera, I was banded 5/20/09. I feel your pain about the gas ad the rumbling pain. I must tell you that it does get better over time walk, sip you fluids and rest. Walking helps decrease the gas pains. Forget about Gas-X it made e rather sick. Try to follow you plan to the T. It works. Use your spirometer as often as you can. I wish you the best. Cheers, Regina

Thanks Rosey, I would have loved to meet you as well. It's not too late. Thanks for the advice, I think sometimes we get in the frame of mind that now that the band is on one should drop weight easily. It's good to know that that painful hunger pain is normal. I thought for a moment that my band ay have slipped or leak LOL. Yes I am having a mental breakdown, needless to say I dreamt of food last night LOL. Thanks again.

Candra, the shoulder pain is from the gas supposedly but it is a bit uncomfortable.BTW no question is stupid my dear :-). About your protein first for now eat as you want and gradually practice the protein first thing. If the eggs are stir fried i suppose its okay. Okay, so I woke up and i have gained weight I haven't cheated and pretty much stuck to the plan. Can someone please reason with me, because I am going nuts. I' already having qualms about getting the band. ALSO do any of you get a hunger pain after you eat?? I' experiencing this! Please Help!!

Hi Riley,I'm doing better, trying to recoup. I am however hating eating clam chowder everyday. I'm not sure if mushies will be any better. I'm ready for solids lol. My scale is still moving so that's good.Tell Melinda thanks for asking about us and that it was a pleasure meeting her. I'm sorry your food got stuck!! I hope you feeling better . Was it because you didn't chew well? Sheena I'm glad you are doing ok. Girl I know about that stupid shoulder pain, I felt like cutting my whole arm off. The good news is that the pain does subside. Can't wait to see you again along with all the gang here. When is our next luncheon? Tina I wish I was available to go the movies with it did sound lke a good idea. Candy darling all will be well. The scale can be a nightmare, I'm sure that you will be fine. I'm sure we will all go through this phase.
