  1. Hey, Jen, Even though I am on clear liquids, my doc allows skim milk with the protein shakes so you get the extra protein from the milk. That is probably why I like the chocolate truffle shake so much because it is really good with milk! So, according to MY doc, you are not cheating. I can't have cream soups yet. Looking forward to Wednesday when I have my post op visit and hopefully move on to mushies! I notice you have lost 12 pounds! That is great. I am at 11 down for now, and feeling pretty good. Not too sore anymore and my incisions are just itchy as heck, but no pain. I am hungry at times though it is getting better the longer i go without real food. Weird.
  2. So sorry to hear about your experience with the blood clot! Thank goodness you caught it early and are on the right track :smile2:treating it now. I am glad you are home now and doing better. Thanks for the warning, I had surgery on the 16th and will watch for any difficulty with breathing. Hope you are feeling better soon!
  3. I hear you about the taste of Protein shakes. The only one I can stomach is the nectar Brand chocolate truffle. Mixed with skim milk it will give you 33 gms of protien in 8 oz. I got the suggestion from Jen to try the Nectar chocolate truffle and if it weren't for her I would be in big trouble with getting the protein in. I actually like the taste of it and look forward to drinking it. Tastes like a chocolate caramel shake. Just my 2 cents.
  4. Hi Early, Just sending you a hug and best wishes for your upcoming surgery. Be strong. You will do just fine and soon your husband will be back and you will be on the road to recovery. I know it must be hard doing this without telling anyone--I didn't tell anyone except my husband either! But in the end it will be worth it. I had my surgery on April 16th and I am feeling great now. That was only four days ago!! Hang in there and know that we are all here for you. Feel free to PM me if you like and keep in touch. You CAN do this!
  5. Congratulations on your loss and thank you for your uplifting post! I had surgery on April 16th and I am so glad it is done. Most of the soreness is gone now but I still have some gas pains. And best part is I am down 11 pounds already...probably just water weight loss due to the clear liquids I am on for now, but I am still happy. Good luck to you and thanks again for the inspiring post!
  6. Sorry to hear you had a bad day yesterday, I felt really tight and had a harder time drinking today. Not sure why, but it is harder to get stuff in than it was a day ago. Hope you do okay at work. Try to take it easy as you can:smile2:
  7. I had surgery on April 16th and still no BM, though it feels like I will soon. Are stool softeners relatively safe? I thought of taking one but haven't.
  8. Hey everyone, I would love to join the Friday weigh ins. I had surgery on 4-16 and was 250. It is the 19th and I am 239. Probably water, but I will take it. Please add me to your list! Thank you!
  9. I had a hiatal hernia fixed as well. Didn't even know I had one, but sure glad she fixed it while she was in there. I have had pain when taking deep breaths too, but that has gotten alot better and today I can actually cough without much pain at all. I am pretty tender in the area right below the esophogus and still taking the pain med a couple times a day. Congrats on your surgery, even with the pain I am so glad it is done and looking forward to my new life.
  10. Lingling, I only had my surgery on the 16th, but my arms and legs began itching yesterday. it comes and goes, and I thought maybe it was pain med related or something. I don't have any trouble falling asleep though...it will be interesting to see if any one else has experienced this.
  11. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to add my name and paste it, but I want in, Can someone add me with a goal of 25 pounds, please? Thanks!
  12. I think that is why i was confused, My doc says I am on clear liquids but she says along with them I can have protein shakes with skim or ff milk. Everything else must be clear liquids. Guess each doctor modifies things on their own.
  13. Jaytee, I am on clear liquids too, with the exception of it including protein shakes with FF or skim milk. I can start mushies in a week which will include cream soups, mashed potatoes, refried beans and scrambled eggs. Otherwise just clear liquids for now, I would double check to see if you are able to add the protein shakes. I would definitely be hungry if it weren't for the shakes. Hang in there,,,we will have some real food soon.
  14. Rannah, glad to hear you are doing better. I think each day it improves. I can actually cough now and it is tolerable. I have started passing gas too but no BM yet. Figure that will come whenever. I go in on the 22nd to have my post op check and then it will be mushies. What is in the full liquids that is not in the clear liquids?
  15. Personally, I like the nectar brand chocolate truffle. It is sweet but has no sugar and in 8 ounces, you get 23 gms protein, Also just okay is the dutch chocolate by Isopure. You get 50 gms protein in 12 ounces. I agree it is a challenge to find a good protein drink, but once you find one you like, life sure is easier!
  16. I had surgery on the 16th and drove this morning, Of course i was not taking any pain meds or anything, but I think it depends on how you are feeling. I also used a flat pillow for cushion between me and the seat belt for comfort. Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery!
  17. Rannah, so sorry to hear that you got sick. That must've hurt like heck to vomit...I coughed today and thought I was gonna die! But feeling much better now, and definitely can say that today is better than yesterday. Still a bit sore, but tolerable. Sleeping is hard cause I can't lay on my side yet because it hurts so I am propping myself up with tons of pillows and sort of sleeping that way. Has anyone else tried laying on their side yet? I found that drinking my protein shake first thing in the morning is best, since I can get in the 8 oz. (the chocolate truffle by nectar has 23 gms of protein in one scoop) then added to 8oz. of skim milk gives it another 20 gms. So all together 43 gms in 8 oz, then the rest of the days protein is easier, I can even have a 15 gm slimfast shake and be okay. I find that drinking the warm chicken broth is easy, It goes down really well. Water on the other hand tastes funny to me and is harder to get down. I finally resumed taking my synthroid pill this morning for my thyroid, I was soooo scared to take a pill, but broke it in half and took it with sips and it went down. Gee, the things I took for granted, like taking a pill! Well, as someone else said, this is all temporary. We will all be able to eat real food again someday, it will just take a lot less of it to satisfy us. Jen, glad to hear you made it okay, I have been wondering about you. Hope you feel better today. I truly would be in trouble without that nectar protein you suggested. It goes down much better than the other stuff I have tried. Well, off to sip my broth and maybe take a nap if I can get comfortable. Take care everyone...
  18. Hi, first of all take a deeeep breath and know you are not alone here! I just had surgery yesterday and have been seeing food on tv, and watching my daughters and hubby eat and though I am not too hungry for it, I have been thinking about it alot! Maybe its my pain med, but I am often dozing off and sort of dreaming about eating dtuff, then panicking and thinking "I can;t eat that!" only to wake up from my dream state and realize i was only dreaming! Too weird! It is only natural that we are gonna miss food. The liquids are hard, but you WILL and CAN get through it. We all will. When we are able to eat mushy stuff like scrambled eggs and refried Beans and mashed potatoes, it wil seem like heaven! You are not too far from that stage. And eventually we will be able to eat real food again, but smaller amounts will satisfy us. Keep your eye on the prize and remember we are all in this together, I am here for you and if you want to .PM me, feel free,,,I know it will all be worth it in the end,
  19. Hi, everyone I am just now feeling up to typing...wanted to let you know that I made it, but am in a bit of pain today. My surgery was at 9 am and I got to my room after recovery at 1:45. I walked the halls about a half hour after getting to my room even though I was groggy. I had a lot of shoulder pain from the gas, but forcing myself to walk a lot helped with that. I left the hospital this morning at 11 and have been home now for a few hours. I do miss the hospital bed! lol Loved how it could be adjusted. My surgeon came in this morning and said everything went fine, but she found a hiatal hernia that I didn't even know I had! She repaired it while she was in there, thank goodness. I don't feel the port pain at all, it is mostly on the left under my ribs area. She said I can shower already, but I want the steri strips to stay on as long as possible, so I will cover them with something. The port site is covered with a waterproof bandage. How are you all doing on getting the liquids in? I am sipping, sipping, sipping, but seems like I am no where near 64 ounces for the day. I have had broth, slimfast hi Protein, crystal light and some Water, but64 ounces? it is not gonna happen today. Just took some pain med, makes me really sleepy, but takes away the pain really well! Hope you all are doing okay, Hang in there...it will only get better! Oh yeah, I am bloated feeling too:unsure:Guess that is normal. I am impressed at how small the incisions are. Guess they need to inflate us pretty well to see everything. Hope to hear from you soon!

  21. Hey everybody, TOMORROW is our day!! I cannot believe it is finally here and that we will all soon join the land of the banded. Amazingly, I am not too nervous, just sort of excited and ready. I am packing my bag and guess that sort of makes it really real! lol I went to the store today to stock up on food for the rest of my family and to get my pain med filled. I am required to eat only soft stuff today and tonight for dinner...mashed potatoes, soup, oatmeal. Well, I had potato soup for lunch and will probably just have a protein shake tonight. I am not the least bit hungry! Must be the excitement!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!! Talk to you all soon, and please post as soon as you feel up to it. I will try to get my hands on the computer at the hospital if possible. PS Jen, I got the chocolate truffle in the mail today...YUM! Thank you thank you thank you...I am so happy to have a shake I can live with and love at the same time!
  22. Wow, sounds like you really had to work to get approved for your band! Congrats on sticking it out and winning!! What was the problem with your incurance? Did they not cover banding or what? (if you don't mind me being nosy...) I had my pre-op visit today and was cleared for thursday. Moved up to 8:30 from 9:00am. I have to be at the hospital at 7 am. Gosh, this is REALLY happening now!! Can hardly believe it!! Glad that my cold is better, and that since I have no fever, they were able to clear me. Heather, I got the dutch chocolate isopure from GNC. They sell it there. but they don't carry the nectar brand, so I ordered that online. I can't wait to try the chocolate truffle! But you are right about the isopure being great in Protein content! 12 ounces and that is nearly a days requirement of protein for me! One more day! Woo hoo. I can't wait to compare hospital stories with all you guys. I know we are all gonna do great and be so happy once we are past the 16th!
  23. Isabella, congratulations!! I am so happy things went so smoothly and you are doing fine. Wow, onlyu 2 incisions! Did your doc do the new procedure? I am probably gonna have five, but oh well..I just want to get it done already. Keep us posted on how you are doing!
  24. Wow! That's great news to be moved up! I can hardly believe it is in a couple of days and we will be banded! I am doing better with the cold. My son has a cough now and I have a small cough and some congestion in my nose, but definitely better than a day or two ago. I see the pre-op nurse at the hospital tomorrow so PLEASE keep fingers crossed for me that she passes me healthy enough for surgery! I don't want to reschedule because it would mean that my surgery has to be sometime in May. I am hoping with the 2 more days, I will be back to my old self. Jen, I ordered the chocolate truffle online and it will be here in a couple of days. I also tried the chocolate flavored Isopure. Not too bad. I mixed it with Water and it was pretty good. I am sure the truffle stuff will be better, but the Isopure has 50 grams of Protein in 12 ounces! I know I can get that in plus a couple of lower protein ones and I will be good. I had spaghetti tonight. Tomorrow will be just shakes and so will Wednesday. I am so nervous and excited. Just wanna be approved for the last time tomorrow by the nurse. I don't have a fever and feel pretty good, so I am hoping for the best. We are almost there!!!!!!
