Brigham and Women/Faulker Hospital
And the fun begins. Why oh why did I gain 3 lbs overnight??? LOL I'm living on 800 calories and just drinking sugar free CIB and water. I know I need to stop stepping on the scale every morn. Old habits die hard. Tried the chocolate muscle milk light this morn. HATED it. Dumped that down the sink. Hope everyone is well

Hi, I'm doing ok. Port pain is the worst and the fact that my stomach is yelling at me all day is starting to get annoying. I bought some muscle milk to see if that helps. I'll look into that link. I'm just so leary of buying a bunch of stuff and not liking it and this is a great deal ) I did 1/2 a mile on the treadmill today and went to target and did lots of walking there. I'm down 9 lbs since surgery and a total of 23 right now. All is good. I know it will slow down and possibly go up once I start eating. I'm only doing about 800 calories right now. Yesterday my hunger was through the roof and it was tough but I did it. Still having moments of when I am wondering if I did the right thing. Still very early but taking it one day at a time. Question about your port. I can feel the tube and it's bulging out a little, could be swelling but grosses me out and gives me the chills when I touch it. Does it get better or is it just me. I'm worried about losing more weight and feeling it more. Will def mention it to Dr. R. but just curious.

Banded 9/24, some questions about the pain and eating
Hi I too was banded on the 24th. Today my pain is minimal except for the port area, which is still really uncomfortable. I was told it could take 4-6 weeks for that to heal. The first day I couldn't tolerate anything, I had nausea and was wretching, so I started again on day 2. Today i tried Jello for the first time and am actually hungry today. I haven't been so today is a little tough. My doctor suggests full liquids till the 2 week post-op appt. If you have any questions regarding your diet, call your nutritionist. That's what they are there for. good luck. We are in this together! :tongue2:

3 days post operation
How is everyone feeling today. Today is now day 4, i'm feeling pretty good but have some dizziness today. Had some jello this morn with sugar, hoping that was it. Trying hard to get all my stuff in today. Pain is really almost gone except for port pain. That will be around for a while. Just checking in. Sandy:w00t:

3 days post operation
Hi, I too was banded on the 24th. I had some of that last night. Try sticking with just Protein and water for a few days. I thought I would try broth and I think it was just too much liquid. I never made my quota for water and protein yesterday. Today I am doing better, so we'll see what the evening brings. congrats on your band.

Hi guys, Tiny thanks for the info on the CIB. I think I need to look for something new. My stomach is yelling out, please stop! ha ha. I'm feeling better today. I wasn't able to tolerate all my shakes or water yesterday. Had a little nausea, feeling much better today. I did 10 min. on the treadmill and hoping to get 2 more shots in today. The pain is better, but the port area as expected is still hurting. I haven't taken any pain meds today, so that's good. I don't have steri strips that I know of, just gauze and tegaderm. I may buy some more tegaderm to cover it up as they get loose, I didn't really soak them in the shower and they still feel pretty good. I do get pain when I feel like I have to burp, weird, shooting pain which feels like it goes all the way up my esophagus. Nothing happens. Then it goes away. Could be me drinking too fast. Hope everyone is enjoying this lazy sunday!

September 2009 Band Date
Just wanted to introduce myself. I was banded 2 days ago. I'm still in quite a bit of pain, but it's to be expected. I'm a little nervous, ok I'm a lot nervous of this journey, but it's one day at a time, one meal at a time. Hope everyone is well! Sandy

Well I'm home. I'm in a fair amount of pain which is to be expected. I have a total of 5 incisions and the port incision is the most painful. Darling Daughter got me good twice tonight, she was just trying to cuddle with me on the couch. I tolerated 2 shakes today and some water. Did the swallow study which was ok, not as bad as I expected. I just took some pain med and am sipping my water. Tomorrow will be my first day of really trying to get in all my liquids and protein. Does the sugarfree CIB make anyone else gassy? The pain from that isn't helping me any. I'm going to attempt the brigham meeting next month. Bostonlady I did want to ask you about how they covered your incisions though. I just have gauze and tegaderm over them. I was told to not take those off for 2 weeks. Which means showering will be tricky! I had my nurse ask me today why they chose to do this to me as she said I wasn't that big. That was a compliment but I told her it was my decision. Made me think after that, but not too much cuz there isn't going back.. ha ha Happy Friday!

Thanks Heidi So I'm going to keep this short and sweet as I only have my phone to respond. Got my band but feeling horrible. Nausea all day long and want to throw up when I sip water. They got me some jello and I'm afraid to even look at it. I know it will get easier but sitting here alone and really sad. My nurse has been wonderful though. Ill post tomorrow

Thanks, My surgeon is Dr. Robinson! Not thinking too much. Told my 4 yr. old that I'm going in to have the doctor look at my belly and that I'll see him tomorrow afternoon. He didn't seem concerned nor did he ask anymore questions. I feel bad for my 2yr old as she is sick and really wants her mommy, so hoping she will do well w/o me for the night. Suppose I should go pack a little bag or something right? It still doesn't feel real. My surgery time is 7:30 I'll post again when it's all done! Thanks everyone for your support. Excited about joining you all. Can someone please tell me how to post a ticker for weight loss. I made it, but pasting the link isn't working. Any suggestions?

So glad to hear all of this. By this time tomorrow I will be banded too. I think I'm the first case, so I have to be there at 5:30. My husband is dropping me off at the faulkner and then I'm on my own. He has to be home with the kiddos. I'm hoping I won't be a complete wreck tomorrow morning. He is my strength, but since I didn't tell anyone, can't really ask anyone to babysit that early..LOL Glad you are feeling well. I'm so excited. I'm down 15 lbs this morning and the sun is shining, couldn't ask for more.. ha ha

Glad everything went well. Are you at the Brigham or the Faulkner? I'm feeling good about my decision, but still a little nervous about anesthesia. About 37 hours till I get mine. Feels surreal. Getting very excited about being a healthier and thinner me :bored:)

Way to go BostonLady. I'm right there with you. I'm being banded at the faulkner this week too. Getting excited and a lot less nervous. I'm wondering about the gas thing too. I need to go stock up on some things, any suggestions? Also is CIB enough protein to get me through the liquid phase. I haven't really done much research on the protein supplements out there and I know there are a ton of posts on this thread alone. Just don't have time to reread right now. Can't believe it's my turn, it's been 7 months of appointments and tests. On another side note, I like to follow the newbies. Anyone hear from singingintherain. Haven't heard from her in a while, hope she is doing ok.

All this talk of PBing, weight gain, getting stuck, is making me nervous. Less than 2 weeks for me now. I started my liquid diet and have lost about 4 lbs, which is good, cuz I have my preop appt. on Monday and it will bring me back to my last weight check..10lbs down, hoping to lose another 5 before surgery. Can someone answer this question for me? Do we have to pay for fills or are they covered by insurance, at least say the first couple? I have Blue Cross. I can see how all the filling and unfilling can get expensive if we pay out of pocket. TIA Sandy )

Congrats K8, your journey has begun. Hope you are feeling better. Megan good luck with your surgery. Please post after to share your story. I have 25 days to go till mine. Doesn't feel real as it's been a journey. Every time I eat though, I'm like, won't be eating this after LB, making me realize the changes I have to get ready for. I wanted to ask. How long after you have been banded did you go out on your first social outing. I have friends already making plans for Oct. Friends I haven't seen in yrs. I'm already panicking. Scared I won't be able to eat anything.. and fear of PB in public. I'm only telling 2 people about my surgery so this should be interesting. Not sure what to tell work too. Since I just got my date, don't know if I should say I'm having surgery or just try to request a vacation and pray I don't get denied, since I had a week in July. Hmm. Thoughts anyone?

This sounds like it's right up my alley! Thanks for sharing. I was just sitting here thinking about how I will supplement my protein intake and this sounds great. I too like juice over shakes. Heidi, thanks for your encouragement. I'm very excited. Got my confirmation calls. Getting banded at the Faulkner on the 24th of Sept. at 7:30 a.m. Very psyched now and much less nervous. I know it won't be easy but the thought of feeling and looking better is really exciting me now. Yay!

Hi everyone, Just wanted to say that I got my date! Finally, I was driving into work yesterday afternoon, thinking about the whole thing and was just about to give up because I was not getting anywhere with Jennifer and considered changing docs and she called me. Sept. 24 is the day. I do have to say she isn't sounding like her friendly self. Something must be going on, or she is pissed at me for telling Dr. R that she doesn't return my calls. LOL Just thought I would share. Hope everyone is well!

Hi K8, that is great news. Congrats. I too finally got through to jennifer after weeks of not getting any call backs. I met with Dr. Robinson to go over all the cardiac stuff I had to go through back in may and he said lets go ahead and call Jennifer and make an appt. Well I asked if there was a chance I could get in next month and he then proceeded to look at me like I was CRAZY! He said I'm pretty much booked till December. I want to cry. I feel like it's not going to happen for me. Is this a sign? I also told him how I had a hard time getting an earlier appointment because Jennifer was not returning my calls. His response was wow, that's strange, I always get compliments on how quickly she gets back to people and I've had her working for me for 9 yrs. He did say he would talk to her. So I left the office and immediatley called her to see if she can by any small miracle get me in sooner. It looks like she called my cell this morning at like 8 but didn't leave a message. Maybe she was calling to B%tch at me for ratting her out.. LOL Just very discouraged and very frustrated! I have everything in place and ready to go. I've lost about 12lbs so far, so that's at least exciting! :juggle: Hope everyone is doing well with their journey. Sandy :0)

Yay she called me back after how many weeks of playing phone tag? At least I got a call, BUT of course missed it. Called her back within 20 minutes. That was Thursday. No messages about dates for surgery or pre-op appointments.. gRRR Just a sweet message to call Jennifer back. Hello, that's what I've been doing! Gonna start again on Monday. Hope you are all enjoying this weather! :frown:)

Has anyone ever tried e-mailing dr. robinson directly? I don't know if that is frowned upon. I guess I could and just tell him what's up?! That I'm not getting any response.

So here I am still waiting. It's been about 3 weeks since I last posted and now I'm getting really annoyed. I've called and left messages to Jennifer as to when I can be scheduled for surgery and not even a call back. I've called many times and just hung up, how many messages can one leave on the same thing?!?!!? I think I'm just going to start calling her everyday. I'm glad you are all doing well. Congrats on the weight loss ms dollaz. That's a great amount of weight to lose in 7 weeks, you should be proud, not discouraged! I joined weight watchers and couple of weeks ago and have lost about 9 lbs. I'm struggling a little this week as i'm very stressed and guess what? I'm eating. I told myself I wouldn't join the gym until I lose 20 lbs. reason being, I tend to gain muscle quickly and the whole muscle weighs more than fat thing really discourages me when I work soo hard and lose nothing! I had a question about fills. Does insurance cover any of them or are they all out of pocket? I can see that getting expensive especially when you have to keep going, or get overfilled etc. Happy 4th everyone. We may actually see the sun this weekend. I almost forget what it looks like!

So I haven't posted in a while and have mostly been lurking. I thought I was the only one left that hadn't been banded yet. All my cardiac tests came back clear and I called today to schedule something for late August or early Sept. I have too many things already scheduled that it would be hard to pull off a surgery and not tell anyone. I'm doing pretty well. I joined weight watchers this week in hopes to lose 20 before. My next goal for myself is to join the gym, but need to be really ready before I spend the money and not go again! just wanted to say hi and congrats to all the newbies. Hope things are going smoothly and hope you all have a great weekend!

Hey singing, just thought I would share my story with you, but I played phone tag with Jennifer alot during school vacation week. She was out a couple of days as well. She is very busy but she should try a little harder to get back to people. Before my surgery was canceled, I had my surgery scheduled for this wed. and as of last week, I got my preop appt. for tomorrow and they too never mentioned anything to me about the diet. I know that when I first called to book an appt. which was a monday, she said she had an opening for that following friday. She said I could start the preop diet that day and it would only put me on it for 4 days. I remember thinking the same thing though. So it looks like my heart is fine, the holter monitor showed nothing significant, ekg was normal and since jennifer so kindly booked me an appt. to see a cardiologist tomorrow I will keep the appt. and close the loop. Just a little bummed knowing I was going to be banded 2 days from now. But better to be safe! L2T, glad you had a good race and achieved your goal. I'm planning on going to the meeting next week, so hoping to meet some new faces.
