WHY is everyone so against WLS?
This is EXACTLY what I do as well and I would suggest you do it too if your family is giving you a hard time. WLS is a very private matter you dont owe it to anyone to tell them

Weight gain before surgery
I gained 2lbs before my surg. It did not delay anything and no one even said anything to me about it.

WHY is everyone so against WLS?
I was 5ft 5 in and 252lbs, and I carry my weight very well so I knew I would have these reactions. So I planned accordingly and didn't tell anyone. Only my husband, mom and dad knew I was having it done. People are afraid of the unknown and they dont want you to be skinner then them and you know it will happen! =)

Low sodium Levels
Never heard of such a thing! A low sodium level would initially sound like a good thing to me but maybe not?

Plateau
Hi Everyone! Wow I feel like I've gone back in time. Coming to this forum totally makes me think back to the days when I was counting down to the surgery date!! Well I am totally plateaued right now! How are you all doing?? I have a fill in a couple weeks but I am looking for some inspiration on how to work through this plateau if you have any for me!

Really? No More?
Hi Bonnie!! I too am just like you.....a diet coke addict but I have been sober now for 17 months! I wanted this surgery so badly and I wanted it to actually work so I just went cold turkey on all soda all together. I was drinking soda up until the day of the surgery and then I just stopped. The whole first year I was banded I drank absolutely no soda at all because my doctor recommended that. Once I hit my one year I decided that I would let myself have one soda per week as a treat. BUT no diet coke. Soda was not my addiction, diet coke was and I refuse to drink it again because I think I'll get addicted. As it is I am finding myself craving soda a lot lately so I am going to give it up through the holidays so keep the addiction in control! You can do it!! It feels really good not to be a slave to something you are addicted to!

Hello from Florida!
Hi Shante!! <----- LOVE YOUR NAME!!! Congrats on choosing the Lap band!! I've been banded since June 2009 and I still feel it's the best decision I have ever made! You are almost my twin because I am 5ft 5in and I started this journey at 252lbs and a BMI of 41! I'm currently at 190lbs and am feeling fantastic! I don't know anything about Tricare insurance - sorry, I had Aetna! However, if you ever have any Lap Band questions I am a total open book and I'd love to answer anything I can for you!!! Feel free to email me anytime! ladylapband@verizon.net Please keep us up to date on how you are doing!!

Did you tell anyone or ????
i have a blog all about my experience and a few friends ive met through this site that i meet up with but they are the only ones who know. i told my husband, mom and dad. that is it. i just know all the negative remarks i would have gotten had i told anyone.
-
No regrets, but....
that is exactly why I didnt tell anyone except my husband, mom and dad. I knew lots of people would give me crap and i didnt need to hear it. I would suggest stop telling people who cares what they think. to me the band is just like loosing weight on your own, it just prohibts you from gaining it back.

Would you do it again??? (have the surgery...)
No question I would do it again. The band is a learning curve but once you get the right restriction and learn to change bad habits your body really starts to change and it's the most wonderful thing. If I had to have the surgery once a year for the rest of my life I would do it.

a bit scared n confused...
You're right your doc will be able to give you all the info you need!!! Recovery really depends on each person individually. For instance I took 8 work days off and I really felt like I needed it. Then I have heard of people that go back after 3 days off. If I were you I would try and get my surgeon to give you a surgery on a Friday so that you have the weekend and that might cut down on your time off. After surgery you have to stick to particular foods while you heal. The first week I could only have liquids. Then the second week it was soft foods....I don't remember beyond that but there was like a 4 week pre op diet I had to follow to slowly incorporate normal foods again. I find that during this time you loose a lot of weight. You can shoot me an email if you want if you have any other questions! ladylapband@verizon.net

Confused and annoyed
I think it is normal to feel awful when you are not eating. I know I ALWAYS do!! Hang in there!! I really believe that you'll be sorry if you cancel the surg! It's the best thing I've ever done. But you have to do what is right for you! Don't cancel because of fear though, only cancel if you think it's really not right for you! Good luck you'll be in my thoughts!!

Starving
Being weak is the worst part about those types of diets! What does the diet consist of? If it gets too much you should ask your doc if you can have something else. =( I hope it gets better for you soon! Congrats on the 6lbs though that is wicked amazing!!!

Aetna insurance, how long for approval?
I have Aetna and I got approved really fast although I am not sure how long it actually took. It took me 6 months from the start til my surgery day. I was not aware of Aetnas 6 month regime if there was one at all but that is how long it ended up taking me so I am guessing maybe it was a requirment??

Chest pains after surgery?
I had a lot of chest pains. I ended up staying an additional night in the hospital bc of it. It was just the gas that they fill you up with, but they did it as a precaution. Scale of 1-10....8ish???
