  1. This sounds ultra confusing....my hospital has a whole program you must go through and a phsych eval is all part of that. I have not had to pay for anything required before surgery. BUt I do have Aetna and was approved yesterday for the surgery so if you have any q's I'd be happy to help.
  2. I just found out today that as of yesterday my insurance company (Aetna) Approved me for the surgery! I am so thrilled! I have another dietician appt 3/23 and as long as I have lost the weight she wanted me to she will tell the team to schedule me a date!
  3. I would watch these videos of the live surgery...gave me lots of questions to ask.. Part 1 of 5 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHzljCq2jbk]YouTube - Live Lap-Band® Surgery Part 1 of 5 - Kansas City[/ame] Part 2 of 5 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-0LncHZff8]YouTube - Live Lap-Band® Surgery Part 2 of 5 - Kansas City[/ame] Part 3 of 5 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlQaMPinCj4]YouTube - Live Lap-Band® Surgery Part 3 of 5 - Kansas[/ame] Part 4 of 5 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFeSlOFbWk4]YouTube - Live Lap-Band® Surgery Part 4 of 5 - Kansas City[/ame] Part 5 of 5 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VRrtsUJLyU]YouTube - Live Lap-Band® Surgery Part 5 of 5 - Kansas City[/ame]
  4. Approved! Yay!!!!!!! I called my doctors office and they said they had not gotten the letter yet so I called Aetna again and asked and she looked it up and said of of 3/9 I was approved for the surgery!!!!!!
  5. Hey! I have no heard yet! We had a ig snow storn today so the mail didn't make it there! I'll call again tomorrow and hopefully they will have it! I will let you know!
  6. I have not had my lapband yet.......I am waiting for them to give me my surgery date, I think it will be in April. I know I am jumping the gun a bit... I am young so I am not sure I will need lipo/tummy tuck but I may want it anyway lol. I don't know how much skin will bounce back. I was hoping this could be a thread for people to post what they are having/had done and the cost of the procedure to give people an idea of the costs who are not being covered by insurance! Thanks everyone!
  7. The only thing I have left to do is see my dietician one last time before she gives the ok to schedule me a surgery!!! I see her on 3/23 so I am praying for an end of April Surgery! Keeping my fingers crossed! Oh and the letter is in the mail from Aetna to see if insurance is going to cover me or not! Anyone else near this point in the journey!??
  8. Um, I'm not really sure what the actual date was that my surgeon sent the paperwork to Aetna, but I received a letter from Aetna dated 2/27 requesting additional documentation. My surgeon sent that paper work after receiving the request and now the answer is on it's way! I am hoping it's an approval! Let me know how it goes for you!
  9. I have Aetna! My BMI fluctuates between 40-41 I weigh 248. I just called Aetna and they said the letter of decision (approval or denial) has been mailed and is on its way to my doctor! They didn't tell me though! So now I have to wait till Monday to see! Hopefully the letter will have reached my doctor by then!
  10. hi there, my mom has it....she does not have lapband she cannot eat popcorn, anything with seeds, nuts. those are the primary things. evrything else i think is on a person to person basis
  11. In some way I think I also don't want to tell people because I want certain people to think that I did do it on my own. Does that make sense? I'm this strong independent woman and I feel like this is the only thing I have no been able to defeat on my own. I don't know what I am going to tell work yet. Every once in a while I will make a comment to certain individuals that I might have to have a surgery but I say it so casually that no one asks. I have PCOS so I think I will just tell my boss (who is female) that I have cists that need to be removed. I think I'm looking at a April Surgery although that isn't air tight just yet.
  12. I have decided not to tell anyone I am getting the Lap-band. The only ones who know are my mother, father, and husband and that is because I live with my folks and lol how can you not tell your husband lol. I am just really frustrated today. I want so badly to share my excitment with someone, but I just know deep down if I start telling I won't get the reaction I want. I know my family and friends too well. My husband doesn't try to talk me out of it, but he isn't excited. My mom worries about everything so she asks me everyday if I am sure about this. Then my dad doesn't say anything. I THINK he feels that it is an easy way out. I'm not one to care what others think, I really don't care what they say/think, I just wish I had someone face to face to chat about this with. Does anyone else who has made the same decision not tell tell ever feel this way????????
  13. A man in my presurgical classes had one and he said they were going to repair it at the same time they putted the band in.
  14. hey there, no I am sorry I am getting mine done at Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington, MA. It's closer to me. I am sure you will be fine at Brighams though, everyone knows its a great hospital!
  15. I have not been banded yet.......I heard about this video from a person in my pre-surgical weight loss classes. I definetly reccommend you watch it, very informational!!!! Part 1 of 5 [ame= ] [/ame] Part 2 of 5 [ame= ] [/ame] Part 3 of 5 [ame= ] [/ame] Part 4 of 5 [ame= ] [/ame] Part 5 of 5 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VRrtsUJLyU]YouTube - Live Lap-Band® Surgery Part 5 of 5 - Kansas City[/ame]
  16. I see my dietician every 4-6 weeks like many of you I am sure. I actually love going, she is always giving me great ideas. I always look forward to the next set of changes she has me implement into my daily life. I am currently eating 3oz of lean protein at each meal as well as veggies and a starch. Now if you have not begun any changes yourself, you are probably thinking that 3oz does not sound liked enough. I am right there with you, that's exactly what I thought! I decided to try it anyway though and to my surprise if I actually stuck with it and did it 3 times a day like she told me to, I was not hungry! I am actually to the point that I don't even snack, not at all! I am just that satisfied. Although, I do understand that this would not be the case for everyone. If you need to snack, just make sure it is something good for you! The other thing I started to do was exercise! She asked me how long I could commit to walking on my treadmill 5 days a week. I immediately said, "30-45 minutes." She looked at my sort of funny and said "how about 15-20 minutes?" Now I have to tell you, I didn't really like that suggestion at first because I was in denial honestly, about how out of shape I was. However, she went on to explain that the exercise was not about dramatic weight loss at this point, it was about making it routine, making it a part of my life. Weight loss will come as time goes by, as you get in better shape. What I have been realizing through this whole process is that we all need to make changes that will last forever. We've all been on yo yo diets practically our whole lives, but this is not one of them! This is forever, there is a starting point, but there is no ending point. Start to think of this like the little energizer bunnie, it just keeps going, and going and going, and going.....................................................................

  19. Hey is anyone here attending the pre surgical classes at lahey clinic?
  20. I saw my dietician, my surgeon, and pulmonary all on the same day. They all weighed me in and they all came up with different numbers. They were not off too much but it ranged from 249-252 and then my home scale said 249, so how do I know what the real weight is lol. Is anyone else having this experience?
  21. Hey all! I was hoping for a helping hand in some chicken receipes. I am super picky but do want to try new things! I also like trukey. Anything you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Hi Amy! Actually my doctor did say that she wanted me to get bloodwork done within 30 days of taking it to check on everything. I don't know how long it would take to tell if it is going to bother me or not but I've been taking it a few days now and have no noticed any problem. I have noticed my stomach making A LOT of noises but its been nothing that has bothered me yet. I think I am on a fairly low does of 500mg though.....
  23. Hello Everyone! I just wanted to share this information with anyone else that may be suffernig from PCOS. I saw Pulmonary the other day and they suggested I try metformin for PCOS. He said he was afraid that seeing PCOS causes weight gain, that I may have trouble keeping the weight that I loose from the surgery off, he said Metformin would help me do that. So I brough the name of the medicine to my Primary and she liked the idea and prescribed me 500mg once daily. In addition to letting you all know about it, can anyone else who may be on it tell me how it is working for them? THANK YOU!

If someone asked you what mindful eating was, how would you describe it? Some might give it a simple definition and say "It is being aware of what you are eating", but I think that it is more than that. Recently, I began my pre-surgical classes where the topic of the day just happened to be eating mindfully. Now let's be honest, you can be completely aware of the fact that you just sat down to watch TV and whoever was there before you left a big bowl of chips on the side table. You begin to eat them as you watch TV, now you are still aware that chips are being put into your mouth and you are indeed eating them, but you aren't really thinking about it. You aren't even really hungry, they are just there! The only thing that makes you stop is your hand hitting the bottom of the bowl because there are no chips left. You feel terrible now because you didn't really want/need them anyway you just ate them out of habit. To prove a point, the doctor running our class gave everyone one raisin. We held it in our hands and described it by looking at it, touching it with our finger tips, smelling it, we described it by touching it to our lips and then we placed it in our mouths without chewing to describe it. Then of course we chewed it to describe it and he then said when we had purposely made a decision to swallow this itty bitty raisin we could do so. Now this was all a bit over the top I must admit, but it certainly hit home. This journey we call the lap band is not just about losing weight, it's about a lifestyle change, a forever change. I want to challenge you all to eat at least one meal everyday mindfully, you don't have to go as drastic as we ate that raisin but take the time to eat your meal slowly and make a choice to chew and swallow. Make a choice to eat mindfully and the margin for failure will decrease significantly. :scared2: BreAnne
