  1. I just need to say it... My name is Breanne, and I am a food addict. *sigh* I believe my addiction began at the age of 17. I had always been an over eater prior to age 17 but it was more emotional eating than addictive eating. I got my first car in May of 2004. I remember the freedom finally! It started out being able to go to whatever fast food place whenever I wanted. I remember always loving KFC, but my mother never let me go, so the first week I got my car I couldn't get the place out of my head! I stopped there everyday after work on my way home and got the BIGGEST popcorn chicken they had and ate it before I got home, and then hid the container. I think that when you hide food is when you become truly addicted. I met my husband the following year. We fell in love and got married just six months ago. Let me rewind......from the time I met him to the day we got married, I gained 60lbs! A lot of people ask me why, and until now I didn't know the answer. Much like alcoholics, a food addict is unaware that they have a problem! I tried to blame it on my PCOS haha. In all honesty, I was the one to blame. We ate out constanelyy, but the biggest problem was, I was eating the same amounts as a 6'3 250lb man! What was I thinking, I can totally relate to that Dierks Bently song! :cursing: "I knew there'd be hell to pay, but that crossed my mind a little too late!" I want to be open and honest about my addiction. If anyone has any questions or feels as though they may be a food addict as well, don't hesitate to contact me! I don't have all the answers, as I am just starting the journey to recovery, but I'd love to hear from some people who think they might have a similar problem! Stay Strong!:rolleyes2:
  2. oh wow I guess all the hospitals are just different! The reason the hospital gave up for having to loose weight is because your liver sits pretty much on top of where they put the band, so they have to lift the liver and the liver is like a sponge for fat! So by loosing weight it shrinks the liver and makes the surgery easier I guess. I do have to confess along with the food I am eating I am still having my mocha/raspberry iced coffee from dunkins everyday.....I feel like I deserve it for eating well lol. Truth is I'm addicted!
  3. Hey All! I am so excited to have found this! I just got my date June 19th 2009! I am so excited!
  4. well i was suppose to loose 10-15lbs and have no lost any so now that i know when my surgery is I really have to bust a move! lol did they require you to loose any weight pre op?
  5. I'm 22 and having the surgery soon.....I am probably going to get a tummy tuck but don't plan to have kids for about 5 years.....should I wait till after I have kids? If I get a tummy tuck before will I just completely ruin it when I have kids?
  6. yes I am not sure about the Protein Drinks. I dont know either if I will have to do a liquid diet or not. Right now I'm having eggs for Breakfast.....the lean cuisine for lunch it had turkey, potatoes and veggies (210 cals) and a slimfast and peice of fruit for dinner along with a couple other peices of fruit if I am hungry. As the time gets closer I may switch to 2 slimfasts
  7. Well my pulmonologist said that of course he recommends that I use it after the surgery but I don't have to. He is giving me the third degree so that is why I don't want to tell my surgeon becuase I don't want to hear the same stuff all over again.
  8. I am having my done at Lahey Clinic with Dr. Sillin if you go to lahey ask for him becuase he is new to the hospital (not new to performing the surgery) and has the most availability!
  9. oh that is so awesome! I have not been banded yet, but my mom was saying to me the other day that I should expect people who have always been nice to me won't be anymore. :glare:
  10. Have you found out what kind of things you are going to have to do pre op? Diets, appts, ect? I'm waiting for all that info in the mail!
  11. So this is what I said.... I told my pulmonologist that I had no intention of using the band after the surgery. The secret part comes in where I don't plan on telling my surgeon that. Sorry I know I went back and read what I wrote and it was confusing! lol I just got my surgery date, June 19th and am only required to be using the machine 3 weeks prior to surgery so I don't have to start using it until May 29th. I have conquered the fear part of the mask....I don't hypervenlate when I put it on anymore. However, the mask does not stay on long at all. It takes me about 15 minutes to fall asleep and as soon as REM sleep is over I subconsciously take it off. My card in my machine says it's on for an average of 1 hour. Now I don't even know I'm taking it off. I don't know what to do about that?
  12. you should call every single day....people have to cancel or reschedule appts all the time...you can probably get one if you call everyday
  13. In all honesty I hope it does happen to me. I hope the people who are really envious show it because I would like to know who my friends really are.
  14. oh my word I am so heartbroken for you! I am so sorry! I am such a crazy animal lover and I would be beside myself if I were you. Hang in there, you are feeling bad now but I think you might end up feeling worse if you don't follow through with the pre op diet! I know it is the hardest thing to hear/do but from my experience I mourn the loss of my animal for far too long if I don't get another right away. Something to think about! You are in my thoughts!
  15. My BMI is 41.6 and at that time when I was approved by aetna I had no co morbitities. Did you have a sleep study yet? I had a slep study and found I had apnea. If you had that, that's a co morbitity. Aetna states you must be BMI 35 w/ comorbitities and 40 with none. You have to have been overweight for more than 2 years. I don't think it says HOW MUCH overweight.
  16. Hi All! My surgery date is June 19th. My mom said something interesting to me the other day. She is 1 of 3 people who know about my decision to have the Lap Band. She said that I should expect people who have always been nice to me, to treat me differently because they will become jealous of my success and perhaps I'll become thinner than they are. Of course this won't be the case for everyone but some probably. I was wondering if anyone who has lost a lot of weight has experienced something like this?? Thanks!
  17. Hey that is so exciting! They wanted to give me June 11 but I am going to be away till the 14th so I had to take the 19th! I was hoping to get it done in May but I guess June was the first available! Everything happens for a reason ! Lets keep in touch!
  18. Hey Everyone! I just got my surgery date! June 19th at Lahey Clinic Burlington!
  19. You have to do what is right for you. And none of us here can tell you what that is. I live with my parents so they know, and my husband knows. But that is it. I have PCOS so I am telling work that I have to have some cists removed. I just got my date for June 19th. I have decided not to tell anyone for a lot of reasons. Knowing the way my family is, they will try to talk me out of it and be very critical about it because it's something they know nothing about. I know that the band isn't magic and will make me loose weight, I am going to have to work for it. But I don't want others thinking I took the easy way out and the only reason I was able to loose weight was because of the band. I want to feel like I did it and not have others make me feel otherwise, which I know they would try to do. Another reason, I don't want to talk about the band all the time. I don't want it to be the only thing people want to ask me about when I walk into the room. I want to talk about my career, my recent wedding, things like that. Whatever your reason for not telling.....it's okay!
  20. I will be staying overnight just one night, that is just what my hospital does.
  21. I just got my date! June 19th! Where are all the June Bandsters at? ps. what do you think of the name JUNE JOURNEYS ???
  22. I'm trying to loose weight pre operatively I think I am looking at a May Surgery..... Since I've been having such a hard time I have come to realize that I think much like an alcoholic is addicted to alcoholic, we are all addicted to food. I honestly feel like it's very similar. We talk constantly about quitting, but we can't. I feel like I am constantly fighting internally to make myself stop. You should find an over eater anonymous class. People say they are great.
  23. well i took it out of the box haha i still dont know if i will use it but thats better then where i was haha
  24. Hi There ! Thanks so much for sharing that! I am actually married..... and the thing is, is that I sleep on my side which the doctor said when I did that int he study I had no problems. The issue was with all those wires during the study I could not sleep on my side so I spent the night on my back (super uncomfty) but at home I sleep on my side. I might be able to suck up the pride part and just use it till my surgery but in all honesty I feel great all the time and still wouldnt use it after.
  25. Hey yall =) I must have made my original post sound like I was hiding the fact that I was not using it from my doctors. However, that is far from the truth I flat out told him I was not going to use it. He said "of course you know I have to recommend that you do" and I told him I understood that. I told him I just wanted to go through the motions to be able to get the surgery. You have to understand that I was COMPLETELY shocked by this diagnosis, I have no symptoms of Apnea, I just had to have the sleep study as part of the process my hospital requires. Also, my refuses to use the cpap is not out of defiance, it's the fact that I loose my mind when something comes in contact with me face. I was doing construction last summer and had to wear one of those white masks, within one minute my throat closed and I couldn't breathe I became nauses and had to take it off. I can't even sleep with the blankets near my face. All the time I'm in the car and if it even starts to get a tiny bit warm I start freaking out because I can't breathe and have to roll all the windows down lol. I know it sounds dramatic but that is exactly how it happens to me. The night of the sleep study with the cpap I cried, literally balled myself to sleep and I had about 3 major anxiety attacks in the middle of the night ripping the thing off of my and throwing it across the room gasping for air. haha I really made that nurse work that night haha. I can get over the embarasment of the mask.....but I don't know about the other part. I'm frazzled. :crying:
