Couldnt' Find the Port
Hi. I went for my first fill after waiting 7 weeks and my dr. couldn't find the port and he probed around two separate times. I went a week later to the hospital for fluoroscopy and it was a breeze. However, the dye I had to drink did affect my lower intestine, if you get my drift. I only got 4 ccs....I'm jealous. I wish all of mine could be under fluoroscopy.

My dr. makes you wait 8 weeks between fills. Surgery was 11/21 and fill was 1/20. I am at a standstill as well. No weightloss happening. I am exercising, but may not be getting in all of my calories or all of my protein. We have been without power for a week and it is hard to do everything you need to do when you are away from home. Thank God, we are at my son's house, but everything is just out of sorts. I love beng with my grandchildren, but I need to get back to taking care of me. I have never been good at that. I will take care of anyone in the world before myself. Maybe my power will be on today, although it snowed another 3 inches, so who knows. Good luck with your fill!

First Fill!!! After almost 9 weeks....
Thanks Angie Angel! I am on liquids for two days, then mushies, then regular food. I see you have to wait 8 weeks between fills. I am so happy to finally have some restriction.

First Fill!!! After almost 9 weeks....
Hi all. I finally got my first fill today! It was under fluoro and was as easy as can be. My dr. wasn't in the right spot last week. I feel restriction, which is good. I can't get another fill until March 18th, so pray for me that this one holds me for a long time. My band looks good. I was worried about heaving and wretching with the virus I had, but everything is okay. So, all good news. Now, let's get this weightloss going! 26 lbs lost, 74 to go!

Hi. I thought this was funny and how most of us feel in January. I'm still hanging in.....I will finally get my first fill under fluoro on 1/20 at 8:30 a.m. Come on restriction! Twas The Month After Christmas Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house, Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse. The cookies I'd nibbled, the chocolate I'd taste At the holiday parties had gone to my waist. When I got on the scales there arose such a number! When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber), I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared; The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared, The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please." As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt And prepared once again to do battle with dirt... I said to myself, as I only can, "You can't spend a winter, disguised as a man!" So, away with the last of the sour cream dip. Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip. Every last bit of food that I like must be banished Till all the additional ounces have vanished. I won't have a cookie, not even a lick. I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick. I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie. I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry. I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore... But isn't that what January is for? Unable to giggle, no longer a riot. Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet.

Beth, glad you are doing well now. My dr. will give me 4 ccs when he does fill me. But, I have to wait 8 weeks between fills. So, once I get my first fill, I hope I get restriction, or it will be two months before I get to have another one. Hold good thoughts for me, please.

Thanks Heather. /they have to do fluoroscopy at the hospital, so it has to be scheduled. They can't get me in any sooner than the 20th or 27th. And, I have to wait 8 weeks in between fills. So, it feels like I am on the slow train for weightloss. Being stuck twice didn't help and now I get to go through it again. I sure hope I get restriction after I finally get the fill. Thanks for the good thoughts.

I'm Mad as Heck...!
I am with you! They never said it would be months before you were able to only eat 4 ounces of food. I waited 8 weeks for my first fill, today, and couldn't get it. My dr. couldn't find the exact spot, after two separate tries, and now I have to have fluoroscopy at the hospital in a week or two. That will be 10 weeks after surgery for my first fill. If I could do this alone, I would have. Never did they tell me I would be up to six months on my own, with no help from my band. I have lost weight, but by willpower only. I understand exactly what you mean. I am angry, too, and feel very misled about the whole process. But, hopefully I will get a fill in a couple of weeks and things will get better. If not, I will have as many as it takes. Good luck with your weightloss.

First fill didn't happen...
It has been almost eight weeks and the earliest is the 20th or 27th. I will find out when on Friday. It has been a hard diet thru the holidays. If I could do it alone, I wouldn't have needed the surgery. I am just so discouraged and disappointed, but I will just have to wait and hope I get a lot of restriction when I do get a fill. Thanks for the kind words...

Thanks, I know it is just a short derailment. I see you have had two fills and we had surgery the same day. Are you doing okay with the last fill? Did they do your first fill under fluoroscopy? They hope to schedule me for the 20th or 27th at the hospital. I just thought the band would give me more help and weightloss would be more, sooner.

First fill didn't happen...
I went today for my first fill. My surgery was 11/21 and today was my first fill. Well, he couldn't find the spot, after two looooong tries and said I will have to come back and have it done under fluoroscopy. I am so discouraged. I have waited longer than most anyone and now at least another week to two week delay. It has been a struggle all through the holidays and now this. I need to know if anyone else has experienced this and I need some encouragement. At this point, I am ready to give up. Help me, please, someone. __________________

My best friend died last night.
I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my maltese of 18 years in April and I know how you feel. Frosty also laid by me thru 3 surgeries and never left my side. This is the first surgery I have been thru without having him by my side to comfort me. And now, when I go for a walk, I want Frosty here to walk with me. It does get better, but it takes time. Allow yourself to grieve the loss of your best friend and know that God will take care of you and your family. You are in my prayers.

Not Losing. . . except my mind.
I am with you....banded on 11/21, but no fill until 1/13. So, I have been on my own all thru the holidays. I am hungry and I am wondering whether this was worth it. I didn't know I would be hungry and have to wait for 8 weeks to get any help. If I could do it on my own, I wouldn't need the band. And now it looks like from other posts that it could take as many as 3 fills to feel restriction. I have lost 20.5 pounds, but none in 3 weeks....once I started on real food. I, too, am very frustrated. It took so long to get approval for the surgery....8 months, and I am still waiting for help from the band. Pray for me, please.

Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge/goals
I would like to participate in this challenge. I was banded on 11/21/2008 and have lost 20.5 pounds. I haven't lost in two weeks, but will have my first fill of 4 cc on 1/13/09. I am going to lose 14 pounds by Valentine's Day. This will be a great kick start for me after the holidays. Is 4 ccs a good fill?

Vomiting with band and no more weightloss
Hi. I was banded on 11/21 and had a stomach virus on 12/11. Although you can't really vomit with the band, I did a lot of heaving and wretching. I am worried about my band. I spoke with my surgeon's office that morning, but do not have another appt. until 1/13. Has anyone else had this experience and did it affect the band? Also, I am starving. I have not had a fill and won't until 8 weeks post op. I am doing the best I can. I have lost 20.5 pounds, but haven't lost any weight for two weeks. Is this anyone else's experience?

Worried I am eating too much, please help..
I, too was banded on 11/21/2008 and I am having trouble with my blood sugar dropping. My dr. said to eat whatever I want, which is scary. Isn't that why I needed the surgery. So far I am only trying small amounts of soft foods. Any suggestions

Banding in one week!
Hi. My surgery date is Nov.21, too. I feel like it has taken years to get here, but actually only 6 months. I am excited and scared. I am ready and start my liquid diet on Tuesday. My surgery is at 7:30 am on Friday. Let's stay in touch! Good luck with your surgery...I will keep you in my prayers. All is well.

Is Celebrex safe to take after lap band?
Thanks for all the info. Actually, I got up the nerve and contacted my surgeon. They caution against it but understand that some patients need it and those patients use it. I am hoping that as the weight comes off, some of the arthritis pain will go away. But for now, I am so relieved to know that I can take it if I absolutely need it. And, I also asked about my pain medication before surgery and was told I can take it now. This will make things so much better for me! All is well.

Is Celebrex safe to take after lap band?
My surgeon is aware that I take Voltaren, and I have discontinued it for three weeks prior to surgery. But, he is not aware of the pain I am in without it. I plan to call him today and ask about taking it after surgery. Maybe he has something else I can use. In any case, I am waiting faithfully for the 21st for my surgery. But it is with a very, very painful body. Glad to hear you were sent home on Celebrex....that gives me hope!

Is Celebrex safe to take after lap band?
I am hoping to be able to take voltaren after surgery. If I can't, I won't be able to walk. My arthritis is so bad that I have considered canceling the surgery just because of the pain from stopping my medication. I am afraid to ask, because if I find out I can't take it, I may have to cancel my lapband surgery. Anyone know about arthritis medicines after surgery?

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
I will be banded on 11/21 and I know what you mean! Come on 11/21!

Hello
Hi. I am scheduled for surgery on 11/21. I am probably older than a lot of you, at 58, but it is never too late to take care of yourself. I, too, started the approval process two years ago, but stopped after a few months. I started the whole process again this year in April. My insurance required 6 months of weightloss, so here I am....ready, excited and a little scared. Come on November 21st!!!

Approved and got a date !!!!!!!!
Hi! I am new to this site as a member, but I have been reading for awhile. I have been approved and have a surgery date of 11/21/2008 at 7:30 a.m. It has been a long process for me. Two years ago, I started the weightloss part of the process, but quit after three months. I started over this year in April and will have surgery on the 21st. Right now, I have seen a pulmonologist, have appts. with a cardiologist, hematologist and vascular surgeon, before surgery. Wish me luck and any encouragement would be much appreciated. My whole family knows and my husband says he will have to eat in the garage before long. Any pearls of wisdom for me?
