Not Losing. . . except my mind.

Recommended Posts

I am beginning to think this was a waste. I was banded 11/19, had my first fill on 12/16. I have no restriction and have gained 7 pounds. I keep reading all the posts on how everyone is losing but not me. Has this ever failed anyone? Am I the only one who was banded in November that is not losing?I feel like a complete loser. [ Ha no pun intended. ]

Is anyone out there in my shoes?

This is the part they call "Bandster Hell". Until you are filled where you feel restriction you will be able to eat. That being said, you are still responsible for what and how much you eat. Have you been good? Are you near TOM?

I am with you....banded on 11/21, but no fill until 1/13. So, I have been on my own all thru the holidays. I am hungry and I am wondering whether this was worth it. I didn't know I would be hungry and have to wait for 8 weeks to get any help. If I could do it on my own, I wouldn't need the band. And now it looks like from other posts that it could take as many as 3 fills to feel restriction. I have lost 20.5 pounds, but none in 3 weeks....once I started on real food. I, too, am very frustrated. It took so long to get approval for the surgery....8 months, and I am still waiting for help from the band. Pray for me, please.

Guys, hang in there. I just had my first fill on the 23rd and it made a BIG difference. Even though it may take a couple of fills to get there it doesn't mean that you won't have any restriction at all. Remember, you are in it for the long haul...you can do it!!

My baratric coodinator said the first 6 months you will not lose that much unless you exercise. Her theme is walk, walk and walk. I started at 50 feet three times a day and now in 2 months I'm up to 3 miles. I do 1 1/2 morning and 1 1/2 night. Maybe that will help.

Nice to know I am not alone. Thank you all for responding. It's hard to have had the surgery, and have friends and family see your not losing a thing. In my case gaining. I suppose I have not been eating the healthiest choices with the holidays and all. My DH keeps feeding me since he has been off for 2 weeks for the holidays. Makes Breakfast in the mornings and Snacks. UGH!! Hopefully when he goes back to work next week and I get my 2nd fill on tuesday hopefully that will work. I think when I go in on tuesday I am going to schedule my next fill a week later. I need to get this band working. :tongue_smilie:

My nutirtionsit (sp) said the same thing. Exercise does help a lot. I was walking on the treadmill at first but have been doing my Walk Away the Pounds tapes now. Once I can use my upper arms, I plan on dusting off my Gizelle and walking on it as well.

I was banded 11/18 and I still feel a little restricted. If I eat too fast...it gets stuck. I can't eat when I first get up in the mornings. My weight loss has slowed down but I'm still losing. I've lost 24lbs total...18 since surgery & I'll take it. My surgeon told me that if I wanted to lose 100lbs in 3 months I should have considered bypass.

Hang in there everyone...it will get better. I DID eat a few Cookies and didn't feel all that guilty. Why? Because it was a few instead of a few hundred.

My nutritionist also said if I lose 2lbs a week, it will be over 100lbs lost when my 1yr band-a-versary comes around.

WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER!!!!!:tongue_smilie:

I am not loosing either. I was banded on 11/25 and I get my first fill next week. I have trouble not drinking with meals. That is why I am not loosing. I hope when I get my first fill it will begin to work.

I was banded November 5th and was doing pretty good until mid December. I fell down some stairs and haven't been able to excersise at all since then. My after care also fell through so I haven't had a fill yet (though I finally did find someone to do a fill. I'll get my first one on January 13th.)

I've put on about 8lbs (of the 20lbs that I lost post op) and I'm attributing that mostly to depression. I'm owning up (for the first time in my life) to the fact that I'm sabotaging myself so I've put myself back on my pre-op diet (with Vitamin supplements) to try and keep myself from gaining anymore until I get a fill. I'd kick my own ass for letting myself put back on 8lbs but I've got a broken knee.

Oh Tristessa it is so sad that all these things are happening you at once. Just the eating and recovering was a big adjustment in my life. But to have a broken knee too. I think anyone would be depressed. But through your tribulation you have learned something, and you have grown as a person. Eight pounds is nothing in our "battle against the bulge". So don't beat yourself up over it. Just be thankful that you are back on track, and try to stay there. Having a fill on the thirteenth should really give you the hope you need.

It took me 3 fills before I felt like I had a band at all. You need to go back and get another fill as soon as your doctor will let you. Some doctors like to wait 6 weeks in between fills but some will give you another one if you call and tell them it feels like you have no band and you need to start losing with the tool you paid for!

WOW! Never thought I would be a part of a "support group" BUT after reading this string of messages, I feel 100% better! I was banded 11/28 and have been VERY disappointed with my weight loss since being banded. I lost more weight on Medifast in a month. I was beginning to think I spent a lot of time & money for something that doesn't work.

Thanks for sharing all...Happy New Year

I guess we are a support group....we do have an addiction..it's called food. I too lost a lot of weight on MediFast but had to stop the diet because it's soy based and it just about did me in. I gained all the weight back plus 20 more.

We are here for one another...we should never pass blame...just support and ideas whenever possible.

I'm not losing either. I had my first fill on the 22nd of December lost a few lbs after that down to 358 and then went back up to 365 and now I'm 363. I am not exercising as much as I should though so I am going to start that more. After my fill I had quite a bit of restriction but a few days later it was gone. I've been depressed and very emotional lately due to all of this. On surgery day I weighed 363 and I still do. =/ Blah.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
