What's Up With All The Tipping?
Don't get me wrong, I love my curly hair. (Well, now that it's short enough that it doesn't really tangle badly, I love it. When it was long, it was horrid.) I just wish I could get it to style. One of my old hairdressers tried to style it one day, in a popular style, and it looked absolutely HORRIBLE.

43 and just enrolled in the R.N. Nursing prog.
Believe me, it isn't unusual for older people to go back to college. I teach general biology labs as part of my graduate school teaching assistantship, and I usually have several students every semester that are 30+. I think my oldest student was in her 70s. To be honest, the older students are usually my favorites because they are actually there to learn and get good grades. They generally don't dick around like a lot of the younger students do.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Yep, that's what she does, at least with the first few fills. She told me when I went in for the first one that it probably wouldn't be enough to give me good restriction (most first fills don't), so to give it a few days and then call for an appointment for another fill.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
It helps a little, but not very much. The only thing that I've really noticed is that it's a little harder to eat certain foods than it was before I got the fill. Other than that and some slight restriction, there isn't much difference. My surgeon is pretty aggressive with fills, so if I can get an appointment for this Wednesday (the only day she does fills), I'm going in to get a second fill.

I'm back from my first fill! It was scheduled for Wednesday, but when I got to the surgeon's office, they said she had had a family emergency and that they were supposed to have called me that morning to cancel my appointment. They rescheduled my fill for this morning, so it was a good thing that my brother's inlaws like me and that they let me stay an extra night with them! (I drove to Memphis on Tuesday and stayed that night. I had planned to drive back on Wednesday, but that obviously didn't happen.) Anyway, she put 1.4 ccs in my band today. I will probably be going back next week for a second fill, since I am still a little looser than I want to be.

What's Up With All The Tipping?
I just don't bother with very good hair cuts. My hair is naturally curly, so it is difficult to cut and style and make it look like anything. I used to have it halfway down my back, but I took a class trip to the Everglades a couple of years ago and got it cut off right before I went. It's EXTREMELY short now. Right after the last time I got it cut, my brother joked that it was shorter than his hair (and it was). I'd let it grow out, but I just hate to take the time and effort that it would require to make it look halfway decent.

Well, I'm REALLY looking forward to my first fill. Right now, I can eat way too much. I have absolutely no restriction at all right now.

Have They Changed Your Wal-Mart?
Unfortunately, that's how my Super Wal-Mart is, and it's been like that since they built it about 10 years ago.

Thanks, Dini and dmtjet! I am currently in Bandster Hell. My first fill is on Wednesday. Right now I can eat anything and I do mean ANYTHING. I kinda got into a "last suppper" mode since I didn't really get to have one before surgery.

So, I guess it is official now
I agree with faithmd. Normally, I'd be all for someone keeping their WLS private, but the way Star acted after she had surgery was just asking for inquiries. If you want to keep your WLS private, then stay mum about it. Don't pretend that you lost weight by some other method. To me, it came across like she wanted to profit from the controversy but she didn't want to admit that she had surgery.

They're going to be here tomorrow. If I survive that long. It hasn't really dropped below 90 degrees in my apartment. Well, I just called them about it on Friday. I kept having to go out of town, so I couldn't call to have them fix it (my landlord requires residents to be present when repairs are made). Plus, every time I would get ready to call them, it would start working again. From what I can figure, the air conditioning unit's low on freon or whatever. It would work sporadically, mostly when I would first turn it on. Not anymore, though. Now it just blows hot air. And of course, it had to COMPLETELY break during a very hot weekend. I'm just hoping that they are able to fix it before Wednesday, because it's supposed to hit 99 degrees.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Hey guys, I'm back. Just haven't really felt like posting much since I have no air conditioning. All I've felt like doing is sitting here and melting. Anyway, send me your updates and I'll get the spreadsheet posted.

Crappity crap
Yep, it isn't freezing. After the repair guy left yesterday (at which point the air had been turned on for about 20 minutes), it only blew cold air for about half an hour. Before I turned it on, it had been off since Tuesday. Plenty of time for it to defrost, if freezing was the problem. I haven't gotten it to blow cold air since he left, so I think it's just low on freon or whatever. I wish I could just go sit in a cold bath until Monday.

Could you imagine? 17 KIDS!!!
I think most of you know how I feel about massive families. I personally think that people shouldn't have more kids than they themselves can care for. There are many ways to teach your children humility, responsibility, and work without having them raise their 16 siblings. Yes, I think that parents should be doing it on their own, for the most part. Why? Because they are the parents. I'm sure their other children didn't get a vote on the issue of having another child in the family. IMO, if you take on the responsibility of bringing a child into the world, you should take on the responsibility of caring for it. There isn't anything wrong with having your other children or other family members babysit every so often, but to permanently depend on them for the basic care and feeding of your other children is simply disturbing, IMO.

Crappity crap
I've not really heard anything about Dr. Woodman. Have you tried searching on ObesityHelp.com for some of his other patients? I wish that was all it was. I stayed with my parents for about 4 weeks, and when I got back to Kentucky, the air wasn't working. I had to go back to Tennessee the next day, though, so I just turned it off and left.

Crappity crap
It was the last day of June.

Crappity crap
I did earlier today. He came and looked at it and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, and just said to call them again on Monday if it still wasn't working. And of course, it's supposed to get up into the mid-90s here this weekend. I think it needs more freon or coolant or whatever. It works (sometimes) when I first turn it on after it's been off for a while, but then it just starts blowing warm air. The fan works fine, it just isn't cooling anything.

Crappity crap
My air conditioning is broken. Caput. GONE. It's 90-fucking-degrees in my apartment right now. And the bad thing? It's 75 degrees outside right now. COOLER than my apartment. I should go sleep on my balcony! :angry

Rest In Peace, Tammy Faye
While I do agree that it is posssible that Tammy knew nothing about what was going on, I think it is highly unlikely. She was either a complete idiot (which she didn't seem to be) or she was complicit. She may have started out with the purest of intentions, but I think she liked the lifestyle and that she probably convinced herself that she really wasn't doing that much harm. Hell, she probably deluded herself into thinking that she and ol' Jimbo were actually helping people. Denial helps people sleep at night, after all.

Sundown towns
I thought it was interesting that most sundown towns actually weren't in the South. In fact, the guy that did the research found that Illinois had the most sundown towns.

Sundown towns
I had never really heard the term "sundown towns" until today. Apparently, they are towns that used to (and may still, depending on who you talk to) ban non-caucasians (mostly African-Americans, but sometimes Jews or Native Americans) from being in the town or passing through it after dark. That got me thinking about my hometown. I can remember having a discussion in elementary school where one of the other students (or maybe the teacher, I don't remember) mentioned that there used to be a sign posted by the interstate that passed through our town, warning African-Americans not to be caught in town after dark. I can also remember hearing about the black man that was lynched at our courthouse. You can look for your town in this database: Sundown Towns by James W. Loewen. Just click on the map, and it will take you to a page that you can use to find suspected or confirmed sundown towns listed by state. My hometown (Crossville, TN) is listed as a probable sundown town. Apparently, there was a significant population of African-Americans there until the early 1900s. For some reason, they all left. By the year I was born, 1983, there were few, if any, African-Americans in my town. There wasn't a single African-American student at my elementary school, and only one or two biracial students (but several Hispanic students) at my high school (more than 2000 students).

About the protein shots... I have always been told that your body can only absorb about 25 grams of protein at one time and that the excess protein just gets turned to fat. If that's true, I would only take 1/2 of the 42 gram protein bullet at one time.

Did anyone read this story???
I don't think that it's all that bad of an idea, either.

That's not normal. It sounds like you might have an infection. My surgeon told me to look for swelling, redness, and heat.
