IRAQ WAR your thoughts
And I'm sorry if I appear a little aggressive about this, but it just really burns me when people cast aspersions on MY patriotism by saying things like "you must have forgotten about 9/11" when we aren't talking about anything to do with 9/11. It disgusts me and pisses me off, and I think you can understand why. The people that WERE responsible for 9/11? I think that being turned into GLUE is too good a fate. It's like discussing the Vietnam War and telling the person that doesn't agree with you're opinion, "You must have forgotten what happened to the Jews and all the Americans that died in WWII." What the hell? One does not have anything to do with the other, and the only point of it is to insult the person you're talking to. All the references to "you" in the above were the general "you," not a specific person in the thread.

IRAQ WAR your thoughts
Yeah, he did. But so did Bush, so we can blame both of them. Look, I'm not going to claim that Clinton was a perfect President. Hell, it's obvious that he wasn't. But Clinton wasn't responsible for the invasion of Iraq in 2003, either.

IRAQ WAR your thoughts
And I'm sorry that you had to experience that. But it doesn't change my disgust for the people that use their deaths as an excuse for invading Iraq. To me, yes, it is defiling their memories to use 9/11 as an excuse for invading Iraq. Saddam didn't kill them. Bin Laden did. To use a really horrid analogy ('cause it's getting late and I can't think), it's like going and robbing one computer game store that has a bad reputation because another one sold you a bad console and wouldn't give a refund. Yeah, they're both game stores, and they may both be owned by crooks, but one has nothing to do with the other. Yes, Saddam was an evil man. No one here is saying he wasn't. Yes, he deserved to die. But my whole point is that 9/11 has absolutely nothing to do with the Iraq war and it's bullshit to say that it does. Bush and Co. used the deaths of all those innocent people as an excuse to invade a country that had NOTHING to do with their deaths, when they should have been focusing on catching the man who DID cause their deaths. If we'd been focusing on bin Laden instead of Saddam and Iraq, we MIGHT have caught him by now. THAT'S what I mean by "defiling their memories." We've been so focused on a man and a country that had nothing to do with their deaths, we've allowed the man that DID murder them to go free.

I understand that they SAY they don't support terrorism. Unfortunately, I think we've got enough evidence to say that they're lying. Or at least, they don't do all that they could to prevent it. No, you've never outright said that Saddam and bin Laden were connected. But you (I think it was you, anyway) have pulled 9/11 into the discussion of the Iraq war, and that implies that you believe 9/11 had something to do with Iraq or somehow excused our actions there, and it didn't. 9/11 was a result of bin Laden and his cronies, and had shit-all to do with Iraq and Saddam. That's what I'm sick of, people pulling 9/11 into any discussion of Iraq and Saddam. IMO, all it does is defile the memories of the people that died that day, using their deaths as an excuse for something that had nothing to do with them. If we're going to talk about Saddam and Iraq, let's talk about Saddam and Iraq. Not Afganistan. Not Al-Qaeda. Not bin Laden. Not 9/11. Saddam and Iraq.

IRAQ WAR your thoughts
Honestly, I think that's the first time I've seen a Republican giving anything Al Gore says any credence at all. And that was 1992, also. It was a bit different from 2003. Eleven years is a long time.

IRAQ WAR your thoughts
And yet, most isn't everyone, is it? For a government that seemingly hates terrorism, the Saudis sure seem to produce a lot of al-Qaida terrorists, don't they? Al-Qaida was and is present in Saudi Arabia. Fifteen of the nineteen hijackers on 9/11 were Saudis (none were Iraqi). If the presence of Al-Qaida is a automatic justification for invasion, we should have invaded Saudi Arabia a long time ago. Yet we don't. Why? Because we need them more than we hate them. Your comment about the Saudi Arabian government is, well, pointless. Al-Qaida and Saddam hated each other also. Yet we still invaded Iraq. The only person avoiding the truth here is you. No matter what anyone says, no matter what proof is shown, you and people like you continue to defend the indefensible. Our government has even admitted that Saddam and bin Laden had no connections. Why can't you?

IRAQ WAR your thoughts
Oh, brother. That argument gets older every time I hear it. The US government doesn't give a damn about other people's rights. If it did, we'd be fighting almost every country in the world, including many of our allies. Hell, if the presence of al-Qaida was an instant trigger for war, we'd be fighing those same allies, too. Yet we're still buddy-buddy with the Saudis, aren't we? No, everyone did not believe that there were WMDs. Bush wanted an excuse and he wouldn't take "No" for an answer.

Students are going to KILL me.
Heh, I ALWAYS put crap like that off. I'm famous for it. When I had to do my graduate seminar last semester (I had to do a 45 minute lecture over my thesis material to the entire graduate biology department, including professors), I was still putting finishing touches on it 30 minutes before I had to start lecturing. I'm completely hopeless at writing essays if I actually have to write them out. I have to type, or I go utterly blank. I generally gather all my sources and fill it in with a bunch of BS. Hell, that's what I did with my seminar, and I got an A on that. :nervous:rolleyes Although, that was mainly because there hadn't been much research done by other people on my chosen topic, so I was free to just BS.

Awesome! Maybe they'll go bankrupt and go away, now.

No, we haven't forgotten about 9/11. We just know that Saddam and Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

Guinea pigs are cute, but I prefer cats. Although, the cats would probably prefer the guinea pigs! It's great that you get them from rescues, though. I'm a HUGE supporter of animal rescue groups. I think everyone should first go to either rescue groups or organizations such as the Humane Society before looking at breeders. You can find some amazing animals that people just toss away. I bought one of my cats from a local veterinarian (he'd been abandoned and I only had to pay for his first shots), but I've rescued the others. One showed up out of the blue at my dad's clinic, one was a feral that we trapped at my parents' house, and the other is one that someone had abandoned as a kitten at the city dump.

Happy Hauntings and other scary things...PHOTOS!
You should see the chihuahua that is my dad's clinic mascot (he's a vet). The worker who takes care of her is constantly making costumes for her. This Halloween, she was a tarantula. Last Halloween, she was a bumblebee. She's got tutus, coats, dresses. Even a WIG, for Pete's sake.

Assisted Suicide/Interesting Reading
Especially when the person in question (typically an elderly person) wouldn't even be around anyway, most likely, if it were up to a so-called God. Between antibiotics and other advancements in health care, we've increased life expectancy. If it were up to a so-called God, we'd be dead at 35, probably.

Students are going to KILL me.
Oh, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a whiz at studying for the classes that I've taken myself. In most classes, I could get away with studying just a couple of hours before the exams and still make As and Bs on them. It's not hard when you are being tested on generalities and theories and crap. But specifics? That's another issue entirely. For most of this biology class, most of the students could probably get away with doing minimal studying. That wasn't the case with the section they were just tested over. They had to know the specifics of photosynthesis and respiration. All the little reactants, intermediates, and products and amounts of each, and all the steps in each reaction. Quite frankly, it was incredibly stupid of them to wait.

I don't understand (goal weight rant)
Since editing is hard, I'll continue my post here. Another thing about my Type A personality: Yep, I live in a pigsty, basically. Most of the time, anyway. I rarely clean, but when I do, I CLEAN. That's what drove me insane about my old roommate. She frequently cleaned, but she always half-assed it. Again, I believe that if you are going to do something, do it well or not at all.
-
I don't understand (goal weight rant)
Yep, that would be me, also. I frequently have problems with my classes because of it, in fact. If I feel that I can't pass a class, I don't even try. That's what made me fail my physics class, actually. And in terms of attendance, if I can't be there on time (or early, preferably), I don't go at all. I DESPISE it when people walk in late. I know it annoys me when people come in late, so I don't inflict my lateness on anyone else. I'm of the belief that if you are going to do something, do it well, even if you can't do it to the extent that you want to. Excuses bug the shit out of me, excuse my French. That's one of the things that kills me about my students. In certain situations, it doesn't matter how much you hate doing something or how much in inconveniences you, you've still got to do it, so you might as well do it with a smile on your face. I've flat-out told my students, "Quit the bitching and get on with it, because the more you bitch about it, the more you tempt me to make it even harder." I'm like Jachut, I guess. If you want to have a higher goal weight (in the overweight or obese categories), fine and dandy. Just don't pretend that it's somehow healthier than a lower goal weight.

Next time you have a craving for chocolate peanut butter stuff, try whey Gourmet Chocolate Peanut Butter protein mix. It actually tastes a little like Reece's cups. Well, to me anyway!

I had to chew that stuff until it was completely liquid before I could swallow it. And then I decided that one bite was more than enough for me.

Holy cow, WASa!
Honestly, I think a lot of it is just that I'm not really that much of a snacker. Even before banding, I very rarely sat and ate potato chips or snack crackers, so it's hard to really get to where I want to eat that stuff now.
