  1. This makes a lot of sense. In fact, it's one of my big problems here on the site. I expect people and their ideas to make sense. If it doesn't make sense to me, I have a hard time understanding why people believe in it. The opposite is true, too. If something makes logical sense to me, I can't understand why people don't beleive in it. Again, that's mainly why I don't understand Christian fundamentalists. Their beliefs don't make logical sense to me, so I just don't understand why they believe in it. I understand that they get some sort of sentimental value from it, but it isn't logical to me. It's really given me some problems when I teach, too. I have a hard time teaching some concepts to people, because I just don't understand why they DON'T understand and I don't know how to help them because that my understanding is just logical and intuitive to me.
  2. When I first read that, my first thought was, "that's me". And it is. Even on this site, I get accused of arrogance (or "blathering", as one member said). It isn't that I'm arrogant, it's just that I am extremely self-confident in what I know. If I don't think I know something, I don't speak up at all. I am actually known (in real life, not online) for being extremely withdrawn, quiet, and reserved. I've been accused of being cynical in the past, and I guess that in some respects, I am. I don't trust people easily, and I don't have a lot of sentiment (which some of you have probably figured out by reading my posts in some of the RnR threads). In some ways, I think it's a waste of time. When I read the part about INTJs wondering if something "works", I really think that is part of why I am an Atheist. Religion doesn't "work" for me. With my reasoning, the only purpose it has is sentiment, which is something I am not big on. When I am in groups, the lack of ability in small talk is really evident. To me, it serves no purpose. I tend to become very reserved because I have very few social skills.
  3. My only objection to the post-death baptism is that I don't want to go down in history as a Mormon. I want to go down in history as an Atheist. To me, it's desecration to officially change someone's religious beliefs after they've died. I don't give a damn what other people believe, even if it is my descendents. I am NOT a Mormon, and they better not try to have me become one after I die. 'Cause, I swear, I will come back and haunt the little bastards.
  4. I am absolutely pooped. I wrote a 23 page research paper in about 8 hours today. I have yet again learned my lesson about procrastination. I've had since late March to do it, but I waited until today. The very day it was due. :faint: Well, actually, I waited until yesterday to work on it, but I spent yesterday doing the statistics for it and didn't get much writing done. I started writing the actual paper about 12:30 last night and got about a page done. Then I went to campus this morning and found out that I was doing it in the wrong format, so I had to start all over again. It definitely isn't my best work, but I have a 100 average in the class, so I don't need to do wonderfully on it to get an A in the class. NEVER AGAIN will I do this. Of course, I say that every time I procrastinate. And then I do it again. :faint:
  5. Well, the process of getting everything TO the insurance company took forever, but once they had everything they needed, I was approved over the weekend. The surgeon's office submitted everything on the 27th, and they called on the 30th, telling me that I was approved.
  6. Because some people don't realize that you don't have to have money to have class. Unfortunately, some of my relatives are like that. Think of the stereotypical redneck (well, almost - no hunting) blue-collar factory worker with a beer constantly clutched in his hand, and you'd have my uncle to a "T". Nine-months pregnant potbelly, and all.
  7. Oh, yeah. I can see that one working out. Of course, it sounds about as bad as the family differences between my old roommate and her (now ex) husband. His family was Mormon. Her's was, well, not, to say the least. Her parents were divorced, didn't get along well, and her father remarried 3 months after the divorce. Her mother married a Brit not long after that, who now stays at her apartment all day, since he apparently isn't allowed to get a job. Honestly? It wasn't a surprise at all when my friend and her husband were separated within 6 months and officially divorced the day before their first anniversary.
  8. Yeah, when reading it, you really have to wonder about the intelligence of some people.
  9. If you guys ever check out this site, be prepared for some laughs. It's a thread called "Things I Learn From My Patients", where ER doctors and nurses post, and there are some pretty outragous stories about what people stick in themselves.
  10. Oooh, I like your dress! I am very fond of aqua shades, and they look especially pretty next to black.
  11. Yeah, what I saw (admittedly, I may have missed one), it was only one poster.
  12. Yeah, I don't really put much stock into a single study. Now, if they could back it up with multiple studies, using multiple sampling methods, that's another thing. Don't forget, also, that there is a distinct difference between correlation and causation. Excess weight and lesbianism may be correllated, but that doesn't mean much. You can correlate the decline in pirate activity with the increase in global warming, but that doesn't mean the one caused the other.
  13. Not yet. I missed their first call and they haven't called back yet (and I've been too busy with end of the semester crap to call them). It should be sometime this summer, though. (It better be before August 2nd, or I'll have to have everything resubmitted to insurance under the new policy that I'll have).
  14. That's how I felt when I had to get an upper GI done. The doctor and tech kept telling me to just gulp it, but I was having trouble getting the little sips I was taking down. I was having to fight my gag reflex with every sip. I know without a doubt that if I had tried to gulp, it would have ALL come up. I was nearly crying by the end of it.
  15. I'd rather have a pelvic exam with a cold speculum than upper GI things with barium. When I had mine, it was all I could do not to puke on them. I kept trying to keep the fizzy stuff down, but every time I'd try to swallow the barium, I'd gag, which them made me burp. The doctor wasn't too happy with me because I couldn't take gulps of the barium (it was all I could do to sip!) and I kept burping, but I didn't care. I was just happy that I didn't throw up all over their nice machine.
  16. I just heard my cell phone beep. Apparently I got a call today from the surgeon's office, and the person that called said that my insurance had approved me! They just resubmitted everything on Friday! I can't believe it happened that fast! :faint: :bounce: Of course, now I can't help but think about how soon I would have been approved if the office manager hadn't lost my paperwork AGAIN. Oh, well. They are going to call again to set up appointments and hopefully a surgery date.
  17. There's plenty of sparkle around the neckline, so I wouldn't bother with a necklace. A couple of pretty bracelets and a nice pair of earrings should do the trick nicely.
  18. How about a trip to somewhere in Europe? There are packages you can get, where you can travel through several countries and see the sights. It might be a little expensive, but it would be worth it, IMO.
  19. Excuse me? You're going a little far, don't you think, implying that any of us are pro-pedophilia? Talk about petty and argumentative!
  20. It wasn't the FAQ (frequently asked questions) of this site, it was the FAQ of the site that was listed. I looked long enough to know that it was about pedophilia.
  21. This thread being deleted won't help them. It has an anti-Christian slant because the website that the thread is talking about is for Christian pedophiles. Of course there is going to be discussion about the hypocrisy of it. It would be different if the thread was promoting the practice. It isn't, though. If this thread is removed, what happens the next time someone wants to discuss drug use, or something else illegal, even if no one on the thread is promoting it or supporting it?
  22. Oh, I can understand not knowing what it was. I was like 99% sure, but I had to go check out the FAQ section of that site just to make sure. I didn't want to assume that it was about pedophilia without being certain. Admittedly, Mark could have elaborated a little in the starting post. But I was also the first person to post in the thread, so there weren't any other clues beyond the title. By now, though, if people fail to read the thread before clicking on the link, that's their fault.
  23. I was thinking the same thing, Sunta. It's more than highly offensive to me to equate homosexuality or unwed pregnancy to pedophilia.
  24. I don't think it does. Remember, a wedding is about the bride, not the guests. I would go for attractive but understated. I think a pretty gold neckace and earrings would do well, as long as they are not over the top.
  25. Unless you know for a fact that these folks know the difference between a False Morel and an edible one, be very careful. The two look almost identical, and people have died from eating wild mushrooms that they thought were edible.
