  1. I am looking for a Dr. around the Detroit Area to do fills. I don't see a list. can you get back to me on this matter.
  2. To Blund: Welcome aboard. Your'e gonna love this site there are so many places to go with people who have been there and done that too. "In almost anything you can think of".. So you will find it useful to. When you find out what month you will be banded in? You can enter that site "example October Bandster" and all the people that are being banded with you will be on that site. It's a lot of fun to. So have fun on your journey and we'll talk again. Shirley...
  3. I had my band done at Henry Fords., and the first thing they gave me after surgery, and fo the rest of my life is Pepcid Complete.. It works for us, so,, maybe you will get lucky and it will work for you. We even have blood work drawn, and he makes sure we are all takeing it.One in the morning, and one at night. Ask your Dr., and then try it.It works for me, and I was on Prevacid prior to my surgery to help control acid reflux for years!!! It's over the counter, but you must get the complete. Good Luck. Shirley...
  4. To who is ever interested,,, i'm from mich. saint clair shores, and a house in st. helen. Any one care to chat? shirley.
  5. julailois: That a girl,,, you'll get there one way or the other. I just recieved a picture today of my old self before I decided to take the weight off. I almost fainted. It just made my drive stronger to keep on trying to lose weight. So you hang in there. shirley
  6. julia: you should thank God your still alive. I'm sorry to hear how it turned out. But contact me and I will tell you how I lost 100lbs.before surgery. "if you want" This was a criteria by my Dr. atHenry Fords. Shirley...
  7. Hello to you all from MICHIGAN!:whoo: Just a few thoughts here. I had my surgery done at Henry Fords They are a center of excellence if any one is interested, done 10/31/06. Muscle Milk Light is definetly the way to go, but buy it on the internet. a lot cheaper, bigger variety also. That was what H.F. recomends to all their Bariatric patients. So yes you do need protien. Oakland General is suppose to be a good place to go. Let me no how it is. They replaced both of my knees this year, did a great job. Drink something cold like ice chips or s.f. popcycles it will take down the swelling, and you will slowely get your water. Remember it's a slow process, should be 1 1/2 to 3LBS. per week. I no it doesn't sound like much, but you figure 12LBS. a month times 6 months = 72 lbs. thats a nice start, and this is a every day thing, so enjoy it. I no I do. Any questins or comments? my name is Shirley from saint claire shores.
  8. I still say try Henry Fords. They will tell you straight out what is required of you. Shrink, Physical Therapist, Internal Medicine, Dietician, A Letter of Intent "very important", and of course some visits to your Dr. to monitor your weight. This whole thing depends on your ins.. Could be 6 months/ could be a year. but what ever you do! get a file started, and when ever you go to a Dr. "doesn't matter what for" get weighed, thean when you are done with your Dr., get a print out of what you were there for, and make sure the date, and weight is on it. That includes any specialist. In 6 moths or more you will be totally pre-pared for surgery. Henry Fords is a center of excellence and can meet all of the needs above. In fact I am going in for a fill on 11-07-07, any specific question you want answered? If by any chance you have H A P hmo it now covers the surgery and fills at this hospital. Hope you have a happy adventure, I no I did.. Shirley...
  9. Welcome to Band Land. I'm sure your'e gonna enjoy this. I no I do. I've been asked would you do it again??? You bet,,, in a flash, it's worth it.
  10. I went through 12 months of Diary for my surgeon. My surgeon put me on a 1200 calorie a day diet for 1 year. I lost over 100 lbs. before surgery. He did my surgery on 10-31-06. I am still on a 1200 calorie a day diet "that's what they want", I only have 1 1/2 cc's in a 4cc band, and am still loseing weight. It's well worth the waite. Just keep proof of every time you go a Dr. that weighs you "that's the key" Blood work, Shrink, any one that weighs you. I was told to get a print out for every visit. I did just that, and gave it all to the nurse that handles the ins.. The rest is her job. Hope this info helps..
  11. julialois: Hi my name is Shirley and I too am from Michigan. I got tired of getting screwed around from the crew at Harper Hospital, so... I went to <p>Henry Fords in Detroit. It was fantastic!!! I had Dr. Jeffrey Genaw as my surgeon ;he is chief of surgery;. Henry Fords is a center of excellence hospital. So if you have h.a.p. ins. it's covered in full, because they understand that if they nip this in the begining stages, they won't have to pay for blood pressure meds., or diabetic hospital stays. In my case they pd. for a right, and left knee. &quot;just done in May&quot;. So as far as running you around like most insurances do. NOPE!!! If you get approved from this surgeon, and have h.a.p. your good to go. If you have to go through the ins. pain, well,,, he's worth it. If you can't youse this pass it on.... Shirley......48082 and 48656

  15. Sue: What size is your band? Mine is a 4cc band, with only 1cc in it. I would like another fill, but my doc say's no more then 1lb. a week should come off, so I'm right were I should be. Still a long way to go. I figure by next summer, I should be were I want. Ever see the comercial about bariatic weight loss at Henry Fords? If you see two Dr.'s standing sillouette at the end of commercial, the partially bald one is mine. He's a good Doc... Keep in touch.... Shirley...

  17. Well: I went to my surgeon's office today, and still no fill. He asked me if chicken breast, or bread was hard to swallow? I said yes. Well,,, that changed everything. He see's a 6lb. loss in 7 weeks. He only want's a pound a week that's it! A pound and a half is to much. So calculateing, surgery probably put weight on or held the same, and the knee is 1/2lb. more, then your original knee. Sooo,, in his eyes I am rite in there. I thought I was going to hit the floor. He told me "This is a very slow go, and you already took out 1/2 of the 50lbs. that you are entitled to for a year!, What else do you want?"Welll???,,, I hate to admit it, but he is very much on target I weighed 231 at surgery, 204 today=27lbs. in 5 months. Maybe under 200lbs. in another month . I just have to keep plugin along, and I guess I will. I'm in this for the long haul. So far I have lost 152lbs. since I started my journey. Shirley... 03/21/07. I'm loseing my patients, I want to see under 200lbs... __________________ Banded 10/31/06 356/231/135 I hope. Surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Genaw Henry Ford Hospital

  19. That's good to no.But that's up to hap! It may very well be possible to go there. Someone would need to find out from hap.
  20. Good Morning Bandsters of Michigan!!!: Have I got good news...... Any one out there have hap ins.? It now covers the surgical band procedure, and fills "or adjustments" I thought I was going to end up paying for my fills, but,,, as of 11/01/06 they announced for the new year they will cover the band.. I just got my referal the other day, and I only have to pay the co-pay for a office visit. Specialist is $30.00 I can live with that. If you have hap or no of someone with hap and would love to have this done. "NO GUIDE LINES AT ALL!" They have to contact Henry Ford Hospital Bariatrics center. "because they are a center of excellence hospital" So that's were hap will send you. That's were I go and they are great to me. Pass it on. Shirley...
  21. This is what I did First I saw my surgeon who was going to do the Band. There I was weighed in "very important" next month I saw my pcp, told him my surgeon put me on a 1200 calorie a day diet to loose weight. Again I was weighed in. I lost weight, and saw a Dr. the next month, might have been shrink, but I was weighed in. That's my pointe Weigh in's, there is no escapeing this. I had to go for 12 months though. Think I saw my pcp 5 or 6 times. Every month was a specialist, weight's. After each visit to a Dr. I told them to give me a print out for the vist, they did, and I had a special folder that I kept everything in. I don't care if you go for blood work! Get weighed!!! When 12 months was comeing up, I gave the nurse the folder she coppied it. Noted that I had lost 125Lbs., and bcbs pd. for the whole thing. So 6 months is better then 12, and you have a chance to get all your testing done at the same time they weigh you in. Your killing 2 birds with 1 stone. I no you want to have this done! so did I, but it really worked out great, and they can't get out of it. Just remember You must have 1 weight for every month in a row. If you loose it or miss 1 date they can make you start again, that depends on your ins.. get back if I can help Shirley...:clap2:
  22. Miscle Milk Light!!! get it on ebay, it's the cheepest. You can call a GNC and get a price but trust me you will go back to ebay. 195 in cal., and 25g of protien to mix a 10 oz shake. "powder only" I like cookies n creme, strawberry milkshake, and a few more. O yeagh they are delicious, and made with water. There is also Muscle Milk it's just higher in calories, that's up to you. Shirley....
  23. faithmd: First of all, your'e of on the right foot! Your sick and tired of being fat, "so am I!!!" and you wanna do something about it. In other words, like they say "YOU CAN TAKE THE DOG OUT OF THE FIGHT,,,BUT, YOU CAN'T TAKE THE FIGHT OUT OF THE DOG!!!" That takes guts. I like that fighting spirit, it's what makes us push for more., but,,, set your goals realisticly. Like maybe this year you might do some walking, and tubeing may have to waite for next year. Now i'm not hear to bust your bubble, i'm a realist. So next year whean you have dropped some weight and you are in better shape to go tubeing, you will enjoy it more. For now go out on the boat and enjoy it, or the water and enjoy it. I no i sink like a rock, so,, my advice would be,, were a p.f.d..!!! What about protien drinks! Did you invest in a good one? If not get back to me on this and I will clue you in big time!! Besides,, protien helps curb your appetite. We can all youse some of that. Good Luck! Keep in touch, and we will talk again. Shirley...
  24. faithmd: trust me, you will. it all comes in time, and about 1200 callories a day tops "I prefer 1000" helps make a huge difference. that's it. Iwas a 5x when i started, i am now a large. still have a long way to go, but i am determened to get there. i'll bet you are to. Shirley..
  25. Thanks kitty! I appreciate that. Shirley..
