I had left shoulder surgery in June 2014 previously, I was very near my goal weight of 140 which was down from 282 lbs. I am back up to 179 lbs and I hate it. I cannot seem to get things back under control. I was diagnosed with low thyroid and placed on Levo-Thyroxine. After after 7 years of no insulin, I have had to take insulin again. My Hgb A1C has climbed from 5.0 to 7.2. Very UNHAPPY I cannot seem to get back on track. Any suggestions? I am making poor food choices and I am consuming larger amounts. I crave sweets all the time and I am a full-time student and work full-time at a sedentary job.I was one of the miracle patients with the lapband and now I feel I am out of control. Lap Band in 2008

I had my surgery November 8, 2008. I successfully went from 258 to 140. I had to have shoulder surgery in June of this year and now the fight is on. Blood sugar out of control, weight gain to 185, and thyroid medication d/t hypothyroidism, I am so ashamed of myself, I have gained all this weight and there seems to be nothing working. The Dr totally unfilled my band and since then he has put fluid back. No luck I am still gaining, and I feel like a hungry bear with no stopping. Blood sugar is crazy. i took 100 unit of insulin prior to surgery and I was able to go off the anything at all for blood sugar. My A1c has climbed and now having to do sliding scale. Anyone else having these issues?

It has saved my life. No more insulin and blood pressure good. I feel and look like a new person. Dr Ikram Kureshi is awesome. He is in my opinion the very best of the best! Bari his nurse cannot be beat! This is best decision that I could have made for myself. I have NO Regrets!

    Nervous about Pre-op Labs!!

Don't be nervous it's not that bad. Just look forward to the results. You will be so happy once it is over. The lab tests are nothing. The decision to have surgery was the best decision that I have ever made. My only regret is that I didn't make it sooner. good luck to you.
  11. Hi ya'll. It does get better.. The gurgles either get quieter or you just get used to them. I'm not sure. I still have them and they are usually when it would be so nice to not have them. I was banded 11/04/08 and have not had any regrets whatsoever. Hang in there.

    New? lost?

I remember how i felt before my first consultation appointment. The apprehension left after the first visit and I knew this was for me. It has been life changing for me. I was a very brittle Diabetic and on several medications for Blood Pressure problems. I no longer take any medications for anything. Just think of the benefits of surgery at your age as apposed to someone my age. Hope that you find some support near you. My advice would be to find a local support group and utilize the lapband forum for additional support. Good luck to you.

to band or not to band

Well, I know where you are coming from.... been there. I do not regret this surgery whatsoever. it has changed my life drastically my HGAb1C went from 11.8 to 6.2 from 11/04/08 to 08/12/09 I no longer wear insulin pump/60-70 unit Novolog per day to no insulin. i do not take any other medications for diabetes or blood pressure. so, if you ask me I would do it all over again........My weight has gone from 258 to 178.2.

highest wt 258, preop wt 245, surgery date 110408 238 current wt 178.2 goal wt 125.
  15. It does get discouraging at times. i especially feel that way when I have these urges to binge when I'm under an increased amount of stress. My band will not allow me to binge the way that I did prior to surgery. I really serves as a reminder that I need to be in better control of what goes in. I do need to exercise even if its simply walking. Any movement at all makes a lot of difference in progress. Hang in there and just think that you may not be where you want to be but you are on your way!
