SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
ROFLLLLLL @ the church bulletins remark!!!!! In response to the all of the remarks about the Catholic Church.. Catholicism is a religion.. a branch of Christianity.. As with all organized religions they have their own beliefs, habits, rules, rituals, doctrines, guidelines etc. Adults are Catholic by choice, not by force. If they dont like "the rules" they leave...Just as with any religion. By staying in the church they are effectively saying that they support the doctrines of the Church. So why all the bellyaching about abiding by the doctrines?? They abide because they want to. Most of the Catholics I know are very passionate about their religion. They practice their faith more often and more passionately than many other friends of different religions. I see nothing wrong with that.. They are lucky to have something that means so much to them and brings them peace. Just my take on things and I hope I didnt offend anyone as this was not my intent... Let's PLEASE not attack anyones beliefs.. you should feel free to state your own beliefs but let others have theirs too...

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
I dont know.. maybe "SOTC thread" or "Belief system discussion".. the only bad thing about changing the name is that it was an eye catcher and got people to read it.. a new name might be a "thread killer".. How about "SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry"??

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
I tried to change the name of the thread but I don't know how!! I changed the title on my original post but it didnt change the name of the thread so I changed the name of the title back.. I wish I could also change some of the things I posted in mt first post but so many people have responded to it that it just wouldnt be right to edit it. So the message and the title will stand as is.. unfortunately I came across sounding like a jack ass!!! one good thing about the title.. it is a constant reminder of why NOT to post while you are angry!!! LOL

I mean my church family.. or a group of people with my belief system.. which could be just family and friends.. not necessarily a church per se...

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
At the time when she needs the support and love of her church family the most they turn their back on her. How very sad. My brothers church strongly supports and is involved in a "prison ministry" and in fact my brother met the minister at that church when he was in prison. When he got out of prison he joined that church with the full blessings of the minister. However when one member of the church found out he was a convicted felon she raised such a stink he was asked to leave the church. So they are in favor of ministering to him while he is safely locked up in prison but he better not ever darken their doorstep now that he has served his sentence and needs church support the most???

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
I once had a Sunday School teacher who said that if a woman is in an abusive relationship she should not leave her husband because God hates divorce. He said you should stay in the relationship and go thru the legal system to seek help for yourself and to deal with your spouse. But above all remain married and support your husband throughout "his ordeal". This was a baptist adult education minister. He was spouting out HIS interpretation of the Bible and, I think, putting womens lives at risk if they listen to him. The scary thing is that I know many christians who worship their pastor and follow their pastors teachings instead of God's teachings. It is my belief that this is where we often screw up. When you read the Bible yourself God will show you what He wants you to know. I believe that strongly. I have read the Bible many times and had one verse mean something different to me in different situations in my life. That is one reason I have a problem with orgainized religion. I consider myself a "Christian" because I follow the teachings of God and Christ. I was raised in Church, First Lutheran, then Methodist, then Baptist. We "church shopped and religion shopped" in the never ending search for the church/religion that believed in what we were comfortable with and would cause us the least amount of change. This is my opinion anyway.. I never really asked my parents why we belonged to so many different churches while I was growing up. I found my self doing this as an adult at it disgusted me. So I quit going to church. As a christian I DO believe that being supported by a christian family is important for accountability reasons as well as support. I hope one day I will be able to return to church. I do miss the love and support of a church family.

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
Personally I think the beauty of this thread is that everyone HAS been expressing their beliefs and noone has been attacked.. at least not in my opinion.. thier beliefs have been challenged, yes, but no personal attacks. Except a couple against me from people who misunderstood what I was trying to say. It didn't upset me in the least. People have been free to state their beliefs and defend them without anyone going off the deep end... I think that is great.

Cheese killing...
I recently started a thread about religion. One member went into the thread about "Thread Killers" and asked for reinforcements to go onto the religion thread and Kill it. That person then PM'd me and apologized for stirring up trouble" The cheesers entered the thread, posted a few silly comments about cheese and such, and then read the thread and decided their services weren't required (I assume) and left the thread alone and it contuinues at this time.. What started out as an angry post by me (I apologized for the angry outburst) turned into a productive thread with conversations about athiest, agnostic and christian beliefs. How was that right to go into a thread and ask for reinforcements to come kill a thread and for those people to "attack"? And by the way.. my post was in the Rant and Raves area that says it is for fighting and arguing and to enter at your own risk.. so how is it anyones job to kill that thread when the owner made a place for us to fight and argue??? Just questions here.. not personally attacking any one person.. Kathy

Question about Moderators
From Penni's post: "All I can say about being a Moderator is DO NOT have friends who are as explosive as Lisa while trying to do your job. I have called her on several occasions to talk about her posts. I have asked her on several occasions to NOT post something and she said “TOO LATE”. I have asked her to let things just go and she has said to me that she will post what she wants when she wants and isn’t backing down from a good fight no matter what."

Jon Benet Ramsay - over after 10 yrs??
When I heard he uprooted his family and moved to the city where that poor little Polly (cant recall her last name) lived and was abducted from I began to have doubts. He had a fascination with her murder and obviously with JonBenet's murder too. That man needs serious help. The sad thing is that sex offenders who go to prison dont always get help. I have an acquaintance who spent 7 yrs in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a minor. He never got any counselling. And because of the political climate here in Texas towards sex offenders, he was denied for parole 3 times so that he was forced to serve his entire sentence. When he was released he was "free to go", he just has to register every year. Ironically, had he been released on parole, he would have had court ordered counselling and accountability to a parole officer. It doesnt make sense.. I understand wanting him to serve his entire sentence.. but why no mandatory counselling either in prison or after release?? Go figure...

JQPublic, I dont know if your read the whole thread or not... My original post was in response to a certain situation. I did not say nor do I believe that ALL Christians do the things I addressed. I agree with everything you posted above. Thanks for your input. Kathy

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
You know Sue.. I have to agree with you there. My original post was about "Christians behaving badly" for lack of a better description. I am a Christian, and part of what we are taught is to help hold accountable our fellow Christians. That is what I was doing, in an admittedly angry way. The anger was uncalled for but the accountability check was not. One thing I WAS impressed with were the responses from the agnostics and athiests. There were only 2 that were derogatory toward my belief systems. That to me is amazing. And as you pointed out I didnt see any Christians bashing the nonbelievers either. I am first and foremost a Christian, but I am also a proud American. One thing I value VERY highly is our freedom. Especially in light of the war and fighting throughout the world. You really get an education on how others live and are treated. I have the right and the freedom to stand in the middle of the street and yell at the top of my lungs that I love the Lord. And others have the right to yell that God is all a hoax. In other countries you could be killed for that. God Bless America I say!! Others may just say Bless America.. That is our right. And I for one am thankful to God for it. Kathy

Abduction
Did anyone see that story from the associated press about the 18 yr old Austrian girl who escaped from her kidnapper after 8 years? He kept her in the cellar I think it said. How awful!!! When she escaped he commited suicide by throwing himself in front of a train. Do you ever wonder what happens in people's lives that makes them do things like that???
