bkdavis reacted to maintenanceman in How did you select your goal weight?
I disagree with the idea that goal weights aren't important. If having a goal weight motivates you, go for it.
I had three goal weights. My first was to get to "overweight" BMI. My second was to get to "healthy" BMI. My final was to get to Ideal Body Weight. I ultimately achieved all three and got down to 146.5.
Now, in maintenance, my goal is to stay under 150. So far so good.
Having an ambitious goal weight really pushed me during the final months when the weight loss slowed and it would have been easy to back off.

You are giving way too much power to absolute strangers to control you and your emotions.
Your new mantra: They are strangers and what strangers say or think about you is of no importance to you, and you will not give them a second thought or even a first one.

Alrighty! I jumped all the pre-surgery hoops, from psych profile and initial meeting with dietitian (who was great- went way beyond "food" to discussing behavior), got the cardio sign off after a chemical stress test and even though my primary was ambivalent, he talked directly to the bariatric surgeon- they know each other. It is a small medical community. Everything got submitted to Medicare for approval of insurance coverage.
I use nicotine replacement therapy-- nasal spray- it helped me get off the ciggies 13 years ago and that apparently isn't a problem either. So I'm now waiting for the green light from Medicare. (I have a good supplemental program to back it up). I've got fingers crossed that it gets approved- I find my mobility worse than ever, breathing difficult given mild COPD and carrying this weight isn't just a cosmetic/ego thing- it is dragging me down. I have a hard time getting around, climbing stairs, walking any distance.
Wish me luck. I'll let you know assuming I go in and get it done- I have Barrett's, GERD and atrial fib (which I attribute in part to the weight gain). I know I have work to do- this is not magic bullet, but I'm psyched! I've been on a modified FODMAP diet for a while.
I'm getting close to 70 years old and want to have another ten or more years to travel and do things.
I thank all of you for your support. I'm sure I'll have questions as this process continues. But, my continued thanks for this forum and its participants as a resource.
regards to all,
D6

so first the picture... i dont like showing my face online... so sorry. But yea
starting weight 317lb and size 57 pants and 4XL shirt
Now 186lb size 34 pants and size large shirt which is a little big
So before surgery i did not date for a very long time. I was really big and really never found anyone interested in me. Now almost 1 year and 1 month after surgery i get hit on a ton... and for me being a guy that is awesome. Literally had 2 girls at work fighting over me which was insane. Had to put a stop to it because it was getting bad lol. But wow. i swear if i was taller than 5'4 i would probably get hit on more haha. But its nice. My best friend said to buy a wedding band and wear it to stop them from hitting on me lol. But its nice noticing girls looking and not looking at me like ewwww he is huge.

bkdavis reacted to Patti K in Hummus deviled eggs
I madethis today, wanting some deviled eggs, and decided to switch up the mayo with hummus! I used spicy hummus and they were DELICIOUS!
4 eggs hardboiled
3-4 TBSP hummus (I used supremely spicy hummus by Sabra mixed up)
I TSP mustard
A teeny bit of mayo will help make it more creamy for those who like a more creamy filling
Slice eggs in half and combine yolks with hummus, mustard, and maybe mayo for filling. Fill egg whites. Consume!
I made it with 3 TBSP hummus and a tbsp miracle whip and 4 halves (or two eggs) was almost 14g of protein!!!!
