    Dumping more than eating

I'm just shy of 2 weeks post op myself (still in puree), and I can relate. One of the things I tried to eat pureed was some oven fried chicken ground up and mixed with mayo (to make chicken salad). Good grief, did I feel like crap for the next 2 hours! I had a headache, was nauseated, and just ugh. I ended up laying down with an ice pack over my eyes for the hour and a half after I took some Tylenol and Compazine (anti-nausea). A lot of how you feel will just depend on what you eat, how much, and how fast. Your digestive is completely rearranged now, and your body just needs time to get used to the new set-up. You'll get there. Just be patient with yourself and your body. If you have questions, just ask your surgeon or your dietitian. I'm sure you can always leave a message to speak to them in between your regular post op check appointments (especially if they use myChart).
  2. Believe me, I feel ya there! I have everything ready to go, and I'm sitting just scrolling on my phone and playing games on my tablet. Sleep is the LAST thing on my mind tonight. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Then again, this isn't my first rodeo going under the knife....and every time, I end up staying up all night. I get a solid nap under anesthesia anyway, right? 😆 I'll keep y'all posted on my progress after I'm in a room for the night afterward.
  3. (Also my status update, btw) It's finally here!! My last day with a "normal" digestive system. Tomorrow morning I go in at 10:15am to check in, go through all the pre-flight checks (IV, vitals, sign consents, talk to anesthesia and my surgeon, etc), then into the OR I go! This process has taken what seems like forever. Way back in April of 2022, I saw a general surgeon to have a Nissen Fundoplication to deal with my (horrible!!) reflux and repair my hiatal hernia. Problem was....my weight made it so there would be a high risk of both failure after a couple years and potential complications. He then suggested I see a bariatric surgeon (which was the first time anyone had ever made that suggestion. So off I went to see bariatrics. From the first appointment, Dr. Beekley was nothing but supportive. He never once belittled me over my weight, or made me feel like I was making excuses for my health. The entire team has been awesome. They keep up with me in myChart, letting me know what Pre-op clearances I needed, or if anything extra was needed from other providers (which, given all my health issues, there was always something extra that was needed lol). But all that hoop jumping was worth it. Now I'm packing my bag and getting ready to have my life completely changed for the better. While I may be increasingly nervous the closer I get to that OR, I'm also excited beyond belief. I've been stuck in this messed up body for entirely too long, and I can't wait to start leaving it behind and meet the woman I know is inside.

  5. That's about how I got into this process too. I have SEVERE reflux and a sliding hiatal hernia. I saw a general surgeon to have a Nissen fundoplication with hernia repair. I had at that time a BMI of 43, plus OSA (obstructive sleep apnea), high cholesterol, and as my later bloodwork showed, I'm also prediabetic. This is all on top of the already crappy health I have as a result of a car accident in 1997, which totally screwed up my spine, making it very difficult to stay active and healthy. He referred me to the bariatric clinic for a combo hernia repair and RNY gastric bypass. That visit (w/ general surgeon) was back in April. I'm now more than 75% of the way through all the required clearances, dietary education, psych eval, etc I need to move forward with surgery. I'm looking at December 6 as my tentative surgery date, and truthfully, I've never been so excited. From what I've seen on here so far, the journey is long, but worth it for most folks. Setbacks can be had both pre and post op, but gotten over or around. I think a lot of it has to do with the mindset....at least it has for me. I can't speak for other people and their journeys. Everyone's different.
