Hello, I'm 61 and had my sleeve surgery a little over a year ago. Everything went really well. I went home the next day. I was never in pain. I'm so happy I had the surgery. I've only lost 45 lbs., I'm not losing as fast as I want but I feel so much better and I'm happier. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

actually, there are a lot more people who never make it to goal than there are those who get that thin. But that said, if you're happy at your current weight, then maybe that's exactly where you should be!

When I went to my 6 week post op consultation ,I happened to sit in close proximity to a woman who had also had the Gastric Sleeve .She thought she looked wonderful - I thought she looked terminally ill ."I'm nearly at my wedding weight " she said proudly .I smiled and said nothing .She was the opposite of how I wanted to look .Her hair was thin and lack lustre , her skin sagging and dull .I listened in horror as she explained she was still trying to lose weight .I thought she summed up the very look I never wanted to have .Her slimness did nothing to inspire me .So I am 3 months post op .I can now walk freely , breathe better ,and I fit into my favourite jeans .I am not at my ideal BMI but if I don't lose further weight ,I'll be content .I eat more healthily and do more . So I suppose that is my story and I'm happy with it .

I had a rough couple of months but do not regret it in the slightest. I paid for it myself and consider it worth every penny. Even though I am only beginning my journey, my fitness is way beyond where I thought I could ever be again. My Diabetes has gone, my BP is normal and I do not get up in the night to pee. Life is so good

I just had my first consultation and I'm considering the gastric sleeve. I need to lose 80-100 lbs

You may not be ready yet. Some need a little longer on a stage before moving forward. It all depends on how you heal. Did you have the purée stage before soft? Though plans can be different, many of us go through two week cycles of liquids, purée then soft. Also your soft food may not be soft & moist enough. Think slow cooked stews, braises, etc. & foods with lots of sauces & gravies. What you’re experiencing are the early stages of the foamies. They usually occur if you eat too fast, too much or eat something that is too dry or coarse.

I’m scared that This won’t work. I have gone and done something so drastic as to get 80%of my stomach cut out and I will be one of the people who lose 25lbs and my body just stops despite what I do. I am afraid I will have complications. That will make me regret the surgery. I’m just plan worried. Lol

Went in at 8:00 am. Got done at 10 am. Heavy pains because of gas after but did a lot of walking and now burping many times, it’s much much better and now it’s 9 pm. All is good and excited for new life.

    Had my 1st post-op visit today...my scale says I've lost 13 lbs...Dr scale says I've lost 7...6 lb difference!!!
    WTF!!!
Dr says I should only be weighing myself once a week and that I'm doing fine. But I thought for sure the weight would come off a little faster.
Sticking with soft foods until next appointment on July 20th. Hopefully I'll see a better loss then.
My husband goes in on Monday for his surgery so at least we will both be on the same diet.

We have practically the exact same starting stats!! (Same height, but i was just 1 lbs shy of you at 235 😉)
To answer your questions (and note that this pertains to my experience and may or may not be yours), no, i have not experienced and “serious” long-term or permanent health issues.
    I’m 3 years, 8 mnths post.
My energy came back and then some by 1 month; the hair that started falling out at 3 months already started growing back about 6 months; my last set of labs done in March this year say im the picture of health. And i have maintained below goal weight since reaching it at 7 months post-op over 3 years ago.
I do have a couple of slightly annoying changes due to the surgery/weight loss though, but nothing i can’t deal with, nor anything that would make me regret having it done:
    1) i am gassy/have mild acid reflux now, lol..but im on medication that keeps it at bay and i adjust my lifestyle to accommodate it: go to sleep on empty stomach, take lactose pills before consuming dairy, etc..
    2) i am a lot weaker than i used to be..in terms of strength like lifting heavy things or opening jar lids. I figure i just need to build back more muscle, but im lazy i guess. Plus there’s always someone around to carry or open things for me anyway Lololololzzz.
There are those out there that do experience some serious issues, but I don’t believe its the norm. You won’t know how YOU will fare until you do.
    Good Luck! ❤️

Thank you Catwoman7 🤗 valid true points! I start checkering out but you are so right about serious health issues if I remain morbidly obese 👍🏼

the people who gain it back are those who let bad eating habits slip back into their lives.
most people do experience a 10-20 lb rebound gain after hitting their lowest weight. It's not inevitable, but it does seem to happen to most of us. As far as gaining it all back, though, yes, it happens to some - but not most. If you monitor yourself, though, and keep up with the good habits, then you're not going to gain it all back.
serious health changes? That would be super rare. You're much more likely to experience serious health issues by staying obese. Most people see vast improvements in their health after surgery.
Fatigue is common the first couple of months after surgery - surgery is a major stress on your body (any surgery - not just this one), and you're taking in very few calories to boot. After that, though, you'll probably have more energy than you do now.
hormonal changes are temporary. That should all stabilize sometime within the first year. Permanent Hair loss would be extremely rare.
no weight loss at all would only happen if you don't follow the program.

Yes! Me!!! July 6th. Getting my lapband taken out, gastric bypass, and hernia repair. I can't wait.
I've gained about 30 pounds since my lapband has been unfilled in the fall, and I'm ready to get this weight off.

I was never told to cut out or even cut down caffeine and I didn't. It's one of the areas where there is a massive variation between programmes.
