  1. I'm still hanging around. I had my 1 year check up last week. I was feeling pretty defeated, as I wanted to be down 100 pounds by my 1 year anniversary. My doctor called me himself with my lab results because he was so excited: my glucose level is 300% improved; my a1c is a perfect 6; my blood pressure was excellent; my good cholesterol was 48...up from 33 a year ago; no more diabetes meds..haven't taken them since the day before surgery; I'm averaging 7-10 miles of walking per week; weight is down 45+ pounds; have moved from size 32 to size 22-24. Overall, a terrific year! I've set myself some goals for year 2 and am living my new band life. It's nice to see how many of the August bandsters are doing so well. Good luck in year 2!
  2. surgery 8/14/08 Total loss 69 pounds; 12 during 6 month pre-surg program & 57 since surgery Started in size 30-32 Womens size & now wearing mostly 20's Still have a long way to go & have no problem with taking it slow. I'm a very happy bandster so far.
  3. You go Ro!!! Love those big weeks!!! Down 1 lb from last week. 5 Day pouch test went great..lost 7 pounds in past 2 weeks & it really put the carb monster in the closet, at least for a while! Sick with my 2nd cold in 3 weeks & too busy with my boys & all their Holiday functions. My 15 year old is taking a girl to the Winter Formal tomorrow, so we're off to get fitted for a tux. Good God he was just born yesterday! Have a great week everyone!
  4. Down 5lbs from 2 weeks ago, as I missed last weeks weigh in. Doing the 5 day pouch test to get back on track after slipping up during the Thanksgiving weekend. Have a great week!
  5. Down 1 lb this week & happy! I've been keeping up with my food journal & have had a great week with my food choices, total calories, & Protein. Do you think thoughts & smells may have calories? Ha, I'm just kidding, but food...really really good food...is everywhere I go lately with the holidays now upon us! A funny to share. My 13 yr old son (who wears slims) left me a note on the blackboard in our kitchen: WE NEED FOOD! I'd been working hard on keeping a 'proper' amount of food in my house...mostly good healthy food. My family is used to having an EXTREME over abundance of food in the house, especially chips, Cookies, etc.; think serious OCD! Anyways, after the note I did do a bit of grocery shopping, but mostly I rearranged my pantry, put some non-food items on the shelves to take up space, and just basically tried to make it 'appear' fuller. Seems to have worked, 13 year old 'thinks' I stocked up, & he liked some of the new heathier snack choices that I found. Have a great week everyone!!
  6. My employer has a small work out room in the building. It has 2 treadmills, bike, free weights, epiliptical (sp?), a flat screen TV, Water, & towels. It's really nice & I feel so fortunate to have access to such a great place to exercise for just $5 per month. I use the treadmill and it's a really good one that measures heart rate, calories burned, etc. Its been pretty easy to slip in there for 30 minutes every day during the week; & I only live 2 miles from the office, so I've had no problem getting in my Saturday & Sunday exercise either. What's crazy is that I never considered joining before out of aprehension of exercising around my co-workers. Glad that I joined anyways & am keeping it up.
  7. Congrats on your first fill! Of course, you've been doing fantastic without one!!! I've been marveling at how well you've done without a fill. I get my 3rd fill tomorrow. I don't have any restriction and have never pb'd, or got food stuck, but my hunger almost completely disappeared for 10 days or so after each of my first 2 fills. For someone who's been hungry 24/7 since birth it's a strange & wonderful/powerful feeling. Take it easy & keep going...you're a true inspiration!
  8. My weight went up & down & up again for 4+ weeks & I was beyond frustrated. I increased my exercise and joined a weight loss program for some extra support, menu ideas, & anything to help keep my hunger from getting the best of me. It appears that I FINALLY broke thru, as I was able to post a 6lb loss for last Friday's weigh in. I go for my 3rd fill tomorrow...3 weeks ahead of schedule... he agreed to fill earlier if I kept an exercise, food, & weight journal so that he could see that I was completely 'with the program'. Don't give up, try a variety of strategies & maybe you'll find that perfect bit of help to push you past your plateau. I'll be wishing you well!!!!
  9. Down 6 lbs from last week weigh in....hallelujah, I finally broke the plateau I've been on for 4 weeks!!! Exercise..daily 30 minutes on treadmill...this is what most likely did the trick for me. Great job everyone! Keep it up!
  10. No loss No gain for the week....I usually count only whole pounds lost/gained, but if I counted partial pounds, then I think I'm down about 0.7 for the week. Not too bad because I haven't kept up my walking this week & that makes all the difference with me. Great job this week everyone...keep it up!!!
  11. I think it depends upon the person. I know folks that much prefer once monthly, or each physician's visit. I really like the weekly Friday weigh-ins, as they help me to keep myself accountable. I've done daily before, but that really is too often for me. On the other hand, some folks actually prefer a daily weigh-in. The August 2008 bandsters have a couple folks that only post to the the Friday weigh-ins once a month. Just a matter of choice &/or preference. Good luck to you!
  12. Down the 2lbs that I was up last week, so I'm exactly even on where I was 2 weeks ago! My fill kicked in, so maybe I can go in the right direction again for the next few weeks. Good luck everyone!
  13. Judie...ask for some lidocaine next time, as it makes the whole process much more comfortable! I'm probably gonna ask for it to be done under fluro the next time, since they had such a difficult time last week. Hope the next one goes better for you!!
  14. My 2nd fill was last week & it took 7 sticks to hit the port. It was very painful & I was bruised & sore for several days. The Physician Assistant tried 4 times, then the physician tried 2 more times, then we all went over to the hospital & got r done with 1 more stick under fluro. Doc says my port has moved due to the weight loss & was really hard to locate. He says it will get easier as I lose even more weight. If not, then I'm at least going to ask that it be done under fluro. Sorry ya'll had problems, looks like its just a few people that report this type of problem...aren't we lucky!
  15. From start of 6 month supervised diet to today = 62 lbs gone forever! 31 lbs gone since surgery date on 8/14/08. My ticker goes by my first meeting w/the surgeon thru most recent Friday weigh in. 2 fills so far. The first one was a religious experience...first time in my entire life that I was NOT HUNGRY; lasted about 10 days or so. The 2nd one last week gave me no results for first 2 days, but then the next 6 days have been almost hunger free. If I can get a fill a couple days before Thanksgiving, then I'm hoping to be able to enjoy my first ever holiday season without gaining weight! I have no restriction, no food stuck, no pb; just no hunger! Weird, like really good drugs (like I'd know haha)...loving it! Congratulations to everyone!!!
  16. Up 2 lbs this week...I kinda knew the 4 lbs down last week wouldn't hold. I got my 2nd fill yesterday, but am not enjoying the same reduction in hunger that I had with my first fill. Doc says I have to wait 8 weeks before the next fill; but that if I logged everything I was eating & could prove to him that I didn't have proper restriction for success, then he would consider sooner. I'm going to wait at least 2 weeks to see if maybe something will kick in; plus I need to recover from the 7 sticks that it took to get my fill yesterday...I'm very sore. My port 'was' in a good place, but I've lost the entire roll of fat that it was nestled in & now it's harder for doc to find it without flouro. He said it will get easier as I lose even more weight. Good luck to everyone this week!!!
  17. Down 4 pounds this week! Have been very hungry, but quite determined. My second fill is next Wednesday & I'm hoping that will give me some help with the hunger. The August bandsters are putting up some HUGE numbers this week...keep it up!
  18. Down 2 pounds this week. Almost no exercise between strep throat & a sprained ankle, but am really hoping to feel up to it soon. The scale just doesn't move as much when I'm not moving as much! Everyone is doing great!! Keep it up.
  19. Down 3 pounds from last week's weigh in. Excercise: none for past 5 days, as I've had strep throat & have been coughing my head off. Will start back hopefully in a couple of days when cough is better. Everyone is reporting great results this week...keep it up!!
  20. Down 6 pounds from last Friday weigh in....much better than my 1 pound gain last time. Walking 30 minutes daily on treadmill...3 mph with incline 3. Drinking alot more Water this week really helped me with my hunger. Good job everyone...keep up the good work.
  21. I'm up 1 pound this week. I've been at a retreat all week...great food choices were available at every meal & snack time, but I refused to use the workout room...there was zero privacy & I just couldn't do it & I believe that really cost me. I'm back to the treadmill tonight & hope to recover the pound plus another 1 or 2 by next weigh in. I'm back to no restriction, but will schedule another fill when the phy office opens on Monday. Everyone is really doing a great job! Keep it up!
  22. Friday morning weigh ins are one of my biggest motivator & favorite part of LBT. It helps to keep me on track knowing that all my August bandsters, & others as well, are logging in to give & check results every Friday. I love it that many of us are including our exercise, along with our weight, and even some that report food choices, success tips, etc. That said, I'll be glad to take over, but I agree w/mdhome that whoever signs on for their weigh in first on Friday morning can start the current weeks thread. Good luck Lellow...I'll be looking for you every 4th week or so on the weigh in thread!!
  23. Down 5 pounds from last weeks weigh in. I'm putting the scales up in the closet until next Friday morning so that I don't become obsessed with weighing. I've really done well eating more Protein this week, no shakes/supplements (I haven't found any that I can stand) just more protein rich foods at every meal. Excercise: still doing 30 min daily on treadmill. I'm up to 3 miles per hour with 1.5 incline. That probably sounds pitiful for most folks, but its really good after 20 years of being fairly sedentary. Got my first fill yesterday (I'm being truthful, it hurt), then went grocery shopping afterwards. For the first time in my life absolutely nothing in the store made me hungry. I was able to make good choices for myself, my husband, & my boys for the week. I love my band! I'm going to go to the monthly support group at the hospital beginning next week. I like LBT, but I can't get into posting much, so I'm hoping to get more out of an 'in person' WLS group. I'm also signing up for our local 'Walk from Obesity' which will be in just 3 weeks...my husband & my 2 teenage boys are walking with me. Great job everyone! Keep up the good work!
  24. Down 2 lbs for this week...I'm in the 200's!!! Exercise...I've switched from neighborhood walking to the treadmill at work. I like it better as there are no potholes. Also, went for my annual gyn exam on Wednesday & my doc was pleasantly surprised that I was down 46 lbs from my annual in Sept of 2007. He shared that of his few patients that have had the lapband all appear to be doing real well with it. WTG everyone...the August bandsters are putting up some great numbers this week. Keep up the good work everyone.
  25. I can wear my wedding rings again...it's been a few years since I could stand to wear them more than a few hours. I've had them on for over a week now! Oh, and all my shoes fit....none of them are tight!
