Newbie From Charlotte
You heard it here first( or second or third, who knows), this will be one of the hardest things you've ever done in your life!! But, it is the easiest and most effective way to achieve what you want. I'm serious. This is going to be hard. But it is so worth it! Warning: If you are the type of person who started diets and gave up the next day, don't do this surgery. If you're a quitter, don't do this surgery! If you think the band is a miracle cure, don't do this surgery! If you are willing to follow simple, well established rules, have patience, and love the rewards of being healthier, DO THIS SURGERY! tmf

Daily Calories
Shap, ya big baby! Just kidding dude! You could get by on 1000 but for me it's painful. I recently went on a 800 calorie a day plateau busting diet with intense workouts for 3 full days. It worked, jogged me down by 3 lbs a few days after my body came out of shock. So, yeah it's possible but most of us didn't sign on to the band to be uncomfortable. Diets were uncomforable if not painful for me and that's why I always eventually failed. It's still true with the band. I still eat 1000-1400 calories a day. I'd say I average 1300 and I'm a lot shorter than you. If you are an active kind of guy I'd think 1400-1800 would be a good goal. Here's a great site to calculate calories needed, burned, BMR etc. http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php tmf

Help
Don't be a chicken, eat a chicken. Cut a small portion of it up into dice sized chunks. Eat one at a time. Chew the crap out of it. Go slow. You're Helen Keller with a fork K? It'll be OK. tmf

Are You Stretching Your Pouch If...
Well that's a little more than scary? You describe exactly how many of my meals take place. However, I do take what you say with a grain of salt. We're all different and I think that some of us/you have much more elasticity in the stomach than others because I was in a lot of discomfort this mornng. Going in now for an unfill. tmf

Are You Stretching Your Pouch If...
You should start your own thread/topic for this Delilah. And if you do, please provide more information such as what you eat, drink, exercise, fills, doctor visits? Most people have a very good idea why they haven't lost weight? Maybe you could offer some reasons why you think you haven't? tmf

I Am Having Such A Hard Time Now.
Go to your nutritionist. She/he should be able to pin down your plateau problem. That's their job. tmf

Weight Gain
Even skinny people gain weight over vacations. Unless you were consuming a cube of butter per meal it's mostly Water weight from the extra carbs and sodium and not fat. tmf

Post Unfill Diet Regimen?
I go in tomorrow afternoon and I'm going to have .2 CCs taken out. Anyone know if I'll have to go back on liquids for a few days? Seems like that would be excessive since they're releasing pressure and not causing any new trauma to my stomach? tmf

Great Day
Amen!! I've been preaching nutritionist counseling for months. I really thought I knew it all, but back in March my nutritionist pointed out some mistakes I was making and ever since then I've continuously lost weight. Going to the grocery store with you is brilliant though. tmf

Peaches.
We? Meaning, banded and beyond post op diet restraints? Yes, you can eat whatever you want to eat. But it's a slider food and won't provide the satiety needed to feel full? You should fill out your profile so we know where you are in your journey? It's difficult to recommend much if we don't know your short term history? tmf

Food Sticking In Esophagus?
First bite syndrome. Oh yeah! I had something similar myself. As time went along it went away and in fact, I had completly forgot about it till your post. I agree with both previous responses. Smaller bites, slow down and chew, chew, chew. Although, in my case, I was on solids 4 weeks out and on soft foods about 2 weeks out. tmf

What Should I Do
Does your friend have a lot of insight with bariatrics? Is she also obese? Does she have medical experience? Has she tried 34 different diets only to fail with every one of them? Does she fear for her health due to obesity? Can she walk in your shoes? tmf

Just Starting
There is much to learn. Look at the poster prior to this one. She wrote a 540 page book about living with the lapband. Buy it. I wish I would have before surgery and I wouldn't have been in the dark for so long. tmf

Hard Time With Fills?
The lining in your stomach must be thicker than most or the fat layer around your stomach is thicker. Or, the doctor should have used a 14 cc band? As long as it works, should not be a problem. I don't see a downside? tmf

Study: High Protein/low Carb Diets May Significantly Increase Cardiovascular Risks In Woman
But it's so minimal? Read this: "In absolute terms, the adjusted figures represent an additional four to five cases of cardiovascular diseases per 10,000 women per year compared with those who did not regularly eat a low carbohydrate, high Protein diet." Also, they didn't compare a low carb, moderate protein diet to a high carb and high protein, high fat content diet(what most of us came from). The study also says that a short term low carb, high protein diet for the purposes of weight loss outweigh the risks associated with the diet. And I have to agree that most of us plan on eating a more moderate carb and protein diet once we reach our goal weights. I don't think I ever want to go back to the Atkins days either but the South Beach way of eating seems more reasonable to me? tmf
