  1. What kind of food is your addiction? Simple carbs? Carbs? Fried foods? Fast foods. tmf
  2. There are some new soft drinks with only 10 calories that do not have that sweetener aftertaste. Crystal light is OK by me and it has no carbonation. I don't know what your pre-op diet is supposed to be so it's hard to offer snack food choices? Are you on only liquids, low carb, atkins?
  3. It's called Bandster Hell. It took me 4 fills and 4 months to say goodbye to BH. Hope your journey beyond BH is much quicker? tmf
  4. One of my fav alltime quotes from a year ago was from Pinkdahlia: "I'm so stinkin' thrilled with my weight loss i dont even care about what i cant eat!" Pink Dahlia I resemble this quote, no, I am this quote. tmf
  5. "but I am worried about the cravings I'll have for them and feel very sad thinking that I can't even splurge on them sometimes" Don't know where you heard this but it's not true? You can eat anything you want. The band will help you to feel satisfied much quicker so you don't feel like you need to eat two plates of your favs. The band does not stop you from eating anything and won't stop you from eating a lot of anything. It only allows your mind to feel like it's no longer necessary to overeat everything. I still have a few slices of pizza every now and then. I still eat small quantities of lasagna. I still eat an occassional burger with a few fries. They don't taste as good as they once did so I'm craving and eating so much less of these unhealthy foods now. tmf
  6. First, what did you eat to get stuck? Most stuck episodes last about 30-60 minutes and the food passes. But it depends on what you're stuck on? How can you be in so much pain and still hungry?
  7. I saw the topic headline and thought, oh great, another bad speller! Good one!
  8. Simple carbs like malt o meal won't stick with you like a Protein shake, egg drop Soup or refried Beans. Processed foods like malt o meal metabolize quickly and can cause insulin spikes which will make you even hungrier. It's like eating liquid bread. Tasty I know, but not a real good hunger deflater. Can you have lentil or black bean soup? Lots of Fiber and should stick around a little longer?
  9. You should post every day just so the disbelievers can see that it can be done. tmf
  10. I like em with my green chile stew. Great to mix.
  11. " I know what to do, I just can't stick to it" "Ask for your limitations and they're yours"....Richard Bach..."Illusions" And one more..A Jeanism gem: "NO WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY OF ANY DESCRIPTION WILL KILL THE EATING DEMONS IN YOUR HEAD"....WLS NITTY GRITTY
  12. If you've tried every diet known and failed, if you've tried every exercise routine guaranteed to make you look like a fitness model and failed, if you refuse to go on living a much shorter life, then WLS is and was the only answer for me and I never doubted or questioned my decision. I have children in their 20's and 40's. I have 6 grandkids. I want to see all of them grow into productive citizens and if I die young that won't happen. I refused to spend the rest of my life in a fat painridden body. I knew that WLS was the only way I could achieve my goal of living a more active and longer life. If you have doubts going into this, maybe you're not ready? But think about the life you lead now vs. the life you could be living, and make a commitment. If you can't commit to making major changes in your eating behavior you will not succeed. Almost guaranteed! There is so much truth in the power of positive thinking and commiting yourself 100% to something so important in(the rest) your life. Sorry to go on so long on my soapbox, but you've gotta believe you can do this or you'll find reasons why it didn't work for you.jmo tmf
  13. It has nothing to do with the form you ingest. Nsaids cause the blood to thin and there is a lot of blood in the lining of your stomach. The area where the band is placed can develop ulcers which then lead to a slip. This pressure from the band can cause an irritation and the extra thin blood then comes to the surface causing an ulcer. It's similar to not taking aspirin, ibuprofen before surgery. It can cause excessive bleeding since the blood is thinner and does not coagulate as well. I still take ibuprofen maybe once a week when the joints swell from over excercising but I don't take it daily as I did before band. Don't tell my doc
  14. Productive Burp(PB) means you belch up some of the food that has accumulated in your pouch or esophogus. Slime or sliming is flem and saliva that is produced by your body to aid stuck foods to pass through and into your stomach. Stuck episodes can create a lot of slime that we spit out.
  15. I'm 1 1/2 years out. I too was starving the first 4 months. My 4th fill after 4 months finally got me to where I was feeling satisfied longer. I bitched and moaned too. On this forum! It's called Bandster Hell for a reason. tmf
  16. Take her advice with a grain of salt. I know if someone asked me which was the best I'd lean heavily towards the band. If she had success with her choice, it's understandable why she would recommend the sleeve. And she may be right. I think each surgery has it's own pros and cons. But it really comes down to matching the patient psyche with the WLS that best fits that patient. The education process before surgery is quite inadequate for many patients and from many doctors. There are several on this forum who should have gone with the sleeve or bypass but went with the band thinking this little piece of plastic would rid them of their eating demons? Doesn't always work that way. Sorry, way off topic now. tmf
  17. Don't take this the wrong way but you hijacked this thread. It's OK as we all do it sometimes and talk about our own stuff. But the problem is this, Not many people will see your post when you ask a question within another thread. You should start another topic in the general discussion area of the forums. I know this is a huge site and it's very confusing. But if you do start your own topic, hundreds of people will see your topic/comment and some will respond. Only the people who read or follow this particular thread will see your post and it limits the amount of possible responders. Having said all that, I have no idea what is going on with your burping and reflux? But I do know that a violent barfing session can cause your band to slip. When you say your dr? Your primary care doc or your bariatric doc? A PCP wont know his butt from a lapband so don't rely too much on his/her advice in this matter. Make sure your doc is a bariatric doc and they should look at your stomach through a floroscope. tmf
  18. So much more is known now than 6 years ago. However, it appears that much of this info rarely makes it's way to banded patients. There's not a day that goes by that someone comes here with no idea what happens next? Did they play Angry Birds during the seminars and education classes or did they sign on with lousy doctors with poor communication skills? We'll never know? Welcome back to your new healthy lifestyle. Keep on posting and reading. tmf
  19. "hardly anything goes down"??? What goes down and what doesn't?
  20. There are books available that can answer most of your questions. Some are more than 500 pages long so there's a lot to learn. Jean McMillan's "Bandwagon" Alex's "The Big Book on the Lapband"
  21. If you are eating like Missy suggested, my advice is to try some chili w/beans. Does it go down OK? If you are eating small and chewing a lot, it's the same as eating chili or a thick meat and veggie Soup. If you can eat Soups with no problem, but get stuck on normal food, you're not eating properly. If you get stuck on soup, you may need a small unfill. tmf
  22. Sounds like he wants you to make his Mercedes Benz payment for a few months? I would recommend a second opinion.
  23. So, 2 Keeble Deluxe choc chip Cookies would have a rating of: 2 cookies would require 30 minutes of 3 mph walking. or 20 minutes of moderate-difficult bike riding? I doubt it would stop anyone from eating bad food but it would be handy to know? tmf
  24. Yes, the girl was cute wasn't she
