On this site you will never ever be judged. People on here are really helpful and no problem is too big or small. I have never been on shakes but from what I have read on here, some people have reactions to certain ingredients in some of them. It gives them extreme bowel movements and nausea. Your team need to earn their money and help you. You can not continue like this, get help please. Let us know how you get on. I wish I could hug you

I haven't had my surgery yet. It is scheduled for April 12th but this site and the people here are so great. There is so much information here! I thought I had done a ton of research but hearing about real people and things they have encountered both good and bad has been very helpful for me. Good luck to all May surgeries [emoji171]

The choice is yours ultimately, if you think they will be negative then don't tell them. It really is no one's business but yours. If you need or want more support I suggest finding a surgery buddy, someone who is having the same surgery around the same time. I haven't had my surgery yet and I made a wonderful surgery buddy on this site, she has been very helpful even though we are still in the pre op phase. I personally told my family and figured if they didn't approve then they could take a hike! This is my health and no one is going to foul it up with small minded negativity. I can however understand not wanting to deal with the extra burden of negative remarks, you can always tell them later but you can't un-tell them.

So they are really on par with each other, since second one doesn’t include a breast lift. Btw this doesn’t include implants, I’m not interested in that and the surgeon actually said she recommends against it in cases like mine because they tend to shift, etc.

Both recommended the same procedures. Both also said recovery would be a bit rough, but could return to a desk job in 2 weeks. Both also said I don’t have really any more fat to lose. Second surgeon showed me how he measured the arm skin and said it was basically just skin on skin at this point. Feels weird to have doctors saying that I’m done with weight loss, but I have to trust they know what they are saying. I’m still 165 and 23 bmi. So might have a reasonable amount of skin at the end of the day….

At this point leaning toward Dr Streu. She has a lot of experience and could do an additional procedure. I was fine not addressing a breast lift until I knew it was a possibility. She’s booking out until fall so would be a ways off but I’m strongly thinking about booking!

    Hello everyone!
I am new here and just wanted to say hello. I decided I wanted to get bariatric surgery done last year but I wanted to wait till January to start, that way everything went to my deductible for my insurance. My husband I am are both going to get the bypass done. I first saw the doctor January 24th and my husband saw her Feb 4th. We both have different insurances, my insurance only required one nutritionist appointment and the psych evaluation. My husband has to have 2 nutritionist appointments and the psych evaluation. I am completely done with everything and he has one more nutritionist appointment. We would like to have surgery the same day or around the same time.
My starting weight was about 260, I do not have a goal weight. My goal is just to get healthy and be more active.
Has anyone done this with a spouse? How did it go, did you have it done at the same time or different times?

    This is good advice.
I now that many people will advise that the best thing to do is to stay out of the kitchen when you can, and I agree with that. I have stopped sitting at the kitchen table if i can sit elsewhere. I currently leave the table as soon as I am finished with whatever meal it is. My husband and the kids understand why I MUST do this. My kids are old enough to have researched and read up on bariatric surgery, and they found that extremely helpful. My husband has been doing the cooking for the past year as he works from home, and I am in school all day. Besides, he LOVES to cook dinner every night.
Try to have your meal plans organized in your head.
For your kids, have you thought about cooking their meals in batches ahead of time and and freezing them? I did that prior to dh taking over the cooking. I would spend one Saturday a month, I had disposable foil pans, aluminum foil, a sharpie, and maybe 4 or 5 favorite recipes that I knew would freeze well: sheet pan chicken, lasagne, chicken in barbecue sauce or whatever, ground beef, sauce and pasta....I would spend a day cooking, wrapping, marking what each one was, baking instructions, and freezing. You can search online for things you know your kids will eat.
It kept me out of the kitchen when I was my most vulnerable: that part of the day when I am tired, hungry and was feeling the pressure to put a meal on the table.
    Hope this helps.

BariNation is a paid community. Its equal parts forum/social media and education. They have several support groups each week tailed for different needs (pre-op, post-op, regain, men's & women's, etc.), monthly presentations from experts (dieticians, therapists, and so on), and they do live and virtual meet ups. Its much more comprehensive than just a forum and, because its paid, there are ZERO keyboard warriors/internet trolls and everyone in the community is invested.

I struggled with BED for about six years before I got help. It does not include forced vomiting. That is bulimia. The most difficult part of the disorder for me to overcome was the cycle of overeating at night, followed by food restriction the following day and self-loathing thoughts. It was a roller coaster of emotional eating. I had intense therapy called EMDR to help heal childhood traumas and deal with depression. Once I discovered the root of the problem or “triggers” for overeating, I was able to face it and fix it.

I've tried them and I like the lemonade, apple and what ever the blue one is. They are pricey but I bought 7 so I can have one every day of my liquid diet. The mango, fruit punch and grape were really gross to me. I hope this helps.

I got rid of my “big clothes” because I made the decision to get rid or my “big” life. It was incredibly freeing to uncover the new slender person underneath. She dresses well, takes care of herself and others, and thoroughly enjoys life. The old clothes wouldn’t fit her body or her personality.

I had a similar conversation with my surgeon (but about my continued weight loss) & my response was the same: I can only eat what I can physically eat. I added Snacks up to 5 a day & yes I felt like I was eating all day long. I still made pretty careful choices & added complex carbs & some more fat. Choosing from: cheese, humus or liverwurst & multigrain crackers, Protein Bar, yoghurt, fruit, roasted fava or chick peas, chia pudding, nuts, etc. I also use non diet salad dressings, full fat milk, add seeds & Beans to meals. I don’t do sweet or breads, Pasta, etc. & cook most of what I eat myself. I don’t drink shakes or need Multi Vitamins.
Sometimes small change or swap in food choices can make big differences. I can only eat 1.5 eggs (approx 10g Protein & 235 calories) but I can usually eat a full serve of rolled oats cause I keep it liquidy (make on milk, add seeds). approx 15g protein, 380 calories. No empty calories, lots of nutrients.
My weight loss stopped when I was consuming about 1300 calories (about 18 months after surgery) but I’m not tall, have a smaller frame, am in my mid 50s & not very active. But you're not me & you may need more calories. You have to work out how much food your body needs to function effectively at a weight your happy at while living & enjoying your life how you want.
It just takes time & some need more than others. Took me a good 2 years to get my portion sizes to about recommended sizes for most things. I still snack but about 3 times a day. Not sure how many calories I eat now as I’ve increased my protein intake a little due to an absorption issue (from gall surgery not sleeve surgery).
Just start making small changes, try different things & see how you go & what works for you. It’s the only way.

Sometimes life just throws crap at you. Family, health, work, world issues, etc. can turn everything upside down & we look to old habits which offered comfort in the past. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this now after you had made such great progress. Don’t let the crap win.
It probably all seems a huge mountain you have to start to climb again but you’ve actually already started. You know what the crap is & how it’s affected you. You know the old habits you’ve fallen back on & the new ones you’ve let slide. Make one change today to reincorporate one of those new habits. Then reincorporate another one next week . Go for a walk, get your Protein in, get your fluids in, drop a snack or swap out a meal choice or whatever you’re ready to do each week. You’ll get there & you’ve great motivators in your children.
    All the best.
