  1. OMG! Thank you, thank you for this post.......I thought I was the only one that was feeling like this. I am hungry alot now (banded 8/12/08) and I was thinking that I was failing somehow and that I was doing something wrong. I have had no problems eating anything really, I havent been gorging myself but since getting on regular food, I have regained 3 lbs. I am scheduled for my first fill on 9/18/08, I hope I do not gain anymore by then!!! Thanks for the affirmation. Hugs, Judie
  2. My surgery went really well, I had my 1st check up today and lost 9 lbs. No problems with eating or drinking. Doc said to go ahead and start regular foods whenever I am ready......YAHOOOOOO! I have no pain, feel totally normal and am ready to get on with losing at a steady pace. How are you doing? Hugs, Judie
  3. Hi Ladies, Today is 6 days post op and I am feeling good. No abdominal pain for at least 2 days, incisions are a little tender still if I lean on something or laugh, otherwise totally fine. I havent needed any pain meds for several days. I have a recheck appt with Dr. Simpson on the 21st. My incisions are looking really good, no redness or swelling or drainage. I think the worst of it is over....... :wink2: PTL (PERAAAAAAISE the LORD! LOL) The cravings have subsided......Here is how I am managing the liquid diet stage (I WANT TO PREFACE THIS WITH SAYING THAT EATING WHAT I EAT MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE, IT IS WHAT WORKS FOR ME RIGHT NOW)......it is because I have been eating thinned out pureed soups for about every meal and making sure they contain enough protein. I went to the Li Li's Oriental Market and got some of my favorite Korean soups, seaweed and kimchee soup and I have added very finely chopped tofu and/or whipped eggs (like in egg drop soup, but stirred alot while cooking so that there are no chunks, very smooth eggs). I have also made bean soups (cooking any beans until very tender) with broth and pico de gallo and pureed it in the blender also. I have also used regular soups from the can but pureed them in the blender before heating and eating. I dont like cream soup, so I used instant mashed potato flakes to thicken up and fortify the really thin soups. I have also been eating SF jello and applesauce with a little Reddi Whip and Yoplait LF lite yogurt for the sweet tooth. I am keeping up with the water and find that when I get hungry......which I do on a regular basis, if I drink about a cup of liquid, it staves off my hunger for a while. It doesnt take much to fill me up, I can have about a cup of soup or water/crystal lite and that makes me full. Woo Hoo!!! Mushies are just around the corner!!! Starting on the 20th for me. Another note, I am down to 273 lbs as of this morning. I know that the weight loss during this few weeks is a bonus but I will take it! That is 10 lbs down from my surgery date (Aug 12th). I am noticing that my face and body are not swollen (I had bad water retention), I haven’t had heartburn at all and my clothing is starting to feel looser.... I know that once I start eating real food, the weight loss will be much slower, I dont care, just as long as I am not hungry. I too am working on my issues so that I will no longer be preoccupied with food, controlled by what to eat and when to eat......I am SO SICK of the low carb/no carb, low fat/no fat CRAP! NO MORE DIET MENTALITY FOR ME! I just dont want to think about food any more, just want it to fuel my body when it needs it. I PRAY THAT THIS WILL BE THE NEW WAY OF LIVING FOR ME, NO MORE OBSESSING ABOUT FOOD. I am thinking of you all and sending strength and hugs. Judie
  4. OMG - I actually lost 9 lbs since my surgery date. That morning I weighed in at 283.5 lbs (due to AF, I think) and today I got on the scale just for the heck of it.......and did it again 3 times (I thought I was HALLUCINATING! )......I am at 274 lbs!!!! I cannot believe it.....I know it is because I am only eating liquids and AF is now gone and surgery swelling has gone down......but I'LL TAKE IT!!! LOL I am much better today, no more pain meds and I am just a little sore and still a little gas pressure in my chest, MUCH better though. I almost feel normal. My incision sites are still sore, especially if I lean on the table or something. I can actually sleep on my sides just fine now also. My baby keeps trying to jump on my lap, he just doesnt understand that it HURTS!! (He is only 19 mos old  ) Also, I have to sleep with a pillow on my tummy cause my kitties keep wanting scritches and try to walk on my belly at night.....heheheee, i guess they missed me while I was at the hospital. Anywho, I am almost feeling normal again. I have been doing laundry and dishes and cooking for my family......that is kinda hard, luckily I am really not very hungry so it is not so bad. It was much worse on the first 2 days that I was home. I still have trouble reaching things on the floor and getting up out of bed in the morning, those are the times that I am the most sore and it is still not that bad. My C-section and hip replacement surgeries were MUCH worse as far as incision pain...... Hugs to all and I hope you are all hanging in there and doing well, Judie
  5. OMG! That is so funny! I have been drooling over the Food Network also, salivating and planning which recipes I am going to try making......when I can eat regular food, of course. LOL! I have never watched food channels so much!!!! I had to just change it and NOT watch anymore food channels.......it was just getting to be just toooooooo much to bear anymore.
  6. Thanks Girls, glad to know that my intense desire to "chew" is part of the process and others are going through this as well. I will just ride it out the best I can and get through it....... Take care and be well, Judie
  7. Hey Sweetie, Hang in there, he doesnt deserve you....... You have someone very special out there just waiting for your to find him, someone who will appreciate, love, and cherish you - just as you are. You are on the way to a healthier and whole new life. There is so much ahead of you. Hold on through the pain and you will be ok. You are strong and will be fine, more than fine, YOU WILL THRIVE! Just take it easy on yourself and rely on your friends. <<<<<HUGS>>>>> Judie
  8. I am happy to report that I am doing ok. I was really tired and sleepy the first two days. Just a little sore and ibuprophen seems to be helping, no more Lortab, but I have it if I need it. I have mainly had really bad gas pains, it started out in my chest, then moved to my ribcage, then to my mid back and under my shoulder blades. Today it is back in my sternum again and it just feels like there is a huge air bubble trapped in my esophogus and I cannot burp it up. Just really achey and pressure, some difficulty taking deep breaths. I am sure that it is my diaphram trying to recover. I have been walking and walkting, I guess it would be worse if I didnt. The nurses said that this was normal and that the gas pains move around like that. Weird, huh?! My incisions are healing fine, a little sore, not very bad at all. Well wouldnt you know that Aunt Flo decided to come to town, THE MORNING of my surgery! I swear, I knew that would happen, same thing happened last year when I had my hip replacement surgery......UGH! I think this has really contributed to my severe cravings and head hunger. The worst thing right now is my head hunger, desire to eat real food! I am not physically hungry but I am dying to eat something that I can chew! I am desperately trying not to eat things that I know are not allowed right now. If I can just hold out til the 20th when I can start the mushies, things will be better, I am sure. Aunt Flo better hurry up and get outta town......she is driving me crazy! I hope that I do better with the head hunger once the hormones settle down. Any way, I am hanging in there........even if it is by a hang nail - LOL! Hugs to all, Judie
  9. Hi there, I am going in tomorrow also for 7:30 am surgery. I will be thinking of you all and cant wait to get back and check in with you all on wednesday. No WIFI in hospital and I will be there over night. Good Luck to all and God Bless! Talk to you wednesday! Hugs, Judie
  10. Im right there with you girlfriend.......I am all of the above too, but add a severe case of PMS and major cravings to it.....my poor family! sheeeeesh! I cant wait to just get it over with. No wireless internet at the hospital for me so I will be back in touch on Wednesday, when I get home....... Thanks for all the well wishes! Take care and HUGS to all, Judie (jadeesmjk)
  11. I am feeling better today, still sneezy but alot less wheezy. Thankfully not coughing and no fever. Trying to rest, not so easy with little ones......I am sure you guys know how that goes. I appreciate the replies and good wishes! I will let you know how my surgery goes on Tuesday......... Take good care, Judie
  12. Do you think my surgery will be cancelled? Anyone go through this prior to their surgery date? What started out this week as a bout of allergies, (it has been really windy here in AZ the past week - Monsoon season) scratchy throat, itchy, watery eyes and a little sneezing has turned into a major hack fest, (my 5 yr old son calls coughing, "hacking up a hairball" LOL) which in turn has made me have to use my inhaler........if I want to breath at all, that is. JEEEEEEEEZ! I swear, I worked so hard to lose the weight that they told me to before surgery, I am now ready mentally also for the surgery and now my body wants is conspiring against me - catching a cold AND having AF come to town.....all at the same time.......Ohhh, yes, I have all the symptoms of right before AF comes to visit.......I am zity (face broke out), crampy, GRUMPY, achy and afraid they will cancel my surgery. Of course, sneezing, coughing and wheezing like a drunken rhinocerous doesnt make life any easier right now.......... <<<sigh>>> Ok, I am done with my whining............sniff............please let me know if any of you have had your surgery cancelled due to a cold. Thanks and pleeeeeeease send HEALTH VIBES my way, I dunno if I can take it if surgery were postponed. Judie
  13. I am scheduled for Tuesday (12th) and I am getting very nervous!! I have Dr. Simpson, and will be at the Surgical Specialty Hospital of AZ (right next door to his office). I would really like to hear from anyone who has Dr. Simpson and who had their surgery at this hospital. How is the staff there, how did your surgery go? I will be staying overnight, so I am wondering if anyone else has done the same. Thanks in advance, hope for some feedback soon....... Judie
  14. I have Dr. Simpson also and I am scheduled for 7:30 am surgery. I live in Casa Grande but I would love to keep in touch and be Band Buddies...... I am starting to get nervous....I plan on staying over night since I have lsmall children....I want to just get some rest and concentrate on recovering. Feel free to PM me anytime and I will see you on surgery day! Good Luck! Judie

  16. Wooo Hoooo Moe!!!! Good for you, I can only hope my surgery goes as well on the 12th......I am amazed that you were lucid enough to type and spell correctly! LOL Sending all the best wishes and hugs, Judie
  17. Yay!! Good for you! I am self pay too and will have surgery on August 12th.) Judie
  18. Hi All, My name is Judie and I am a SAHM of 2 little angels....the oldest is a super, high energy 5 yr old named Jason and a fearless and crazy 19 month old named Joshua. Joshy's adoption will be finalized the week after my surgery....YAY......what a good month to celebrate! I am married to a wonderful man who is a firefighter and we have been together for 8.5 yrs now. We also have 2 dogs and 2 cats (all rescues) and a fish called "Fred the Big Cheese" (my 5 year old named him, not me! LOL) I love to read and do craft work (which i dont really have much time to do either) and I am trying to get certified as a Medical Transcriptionist, through online training. I have ALWAYS been overweight, I was 11 lbs 10 oz when I was born (my poor Mom!) and I think I might have been thin for about 5 minutes when I was 7 yrs old.....then puberty hit and that was all she wrote! I had a hip replacement surgery on 10/23/07 due to an injury in 2001, and my weight just made it progressively worse until I could barely walk anymore. I spent about 6 yrs in excruciating pain, due to my injured hip and "fatness".....now my hip doesnt hurt anymore, but I am still fat. Go figure, my insurance will pay for every fr@@*&$^n joint in my body to be replaced but they will NOT pay for WLS!! How does that make any sense?!?! So needless to say, I am self pay. The thing that really moved me to have this surgery is the fact that my son (4 yrs old at the time) said to me - "Mommy, I want you to be thin so you can be healthy" this was after he asked me "Mommy, why are you fat?" with all the honesty and love in his heart. How do you explain to a young child that you are fat because you have eaten too much too often and didnt exercise, and didnt care enough about yourself to stop doing one and start the other?!?! It was heartbreaking to say the least. My family loves me no matter what, but I owe it to them to be around to see them grow up. I owe it to myself to love me and take care of the body that God gave me and to treat it with respect and dignity that I deserve, whether I feel deserving or not. Sheeesh! I am really sorry to be so long winded, I guess I am a little emotional and over tired...... Good to meet you all and I am really happy to be a part of this support group. Hugs, Judie
  19. I am wondering how they taste........if they are decent, i want to buy some. Could you make the same kind of thing with the SF Jello and powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powder? I am still not doing too well with sticking to my liquid pre op diet. I have lost about 5 lbs and I still need to lose another 5-6 lbs by my surgery date. I have cheated and eaten little bits of lean beef, chicken breast, nectarines and a bananna.....not all in one day but spread out in the last 5 days. I have until the 11th (my pre op weigh in) to have lost all the weight that they told me. I am just really hungry and wanting something to chew......I dont usually like sweet stuff that much anyway and all the shake stuff is sweet. Cant wait to get my unflavored Unjury to add to my broth.....i am craving spicy and savory stuff. **sigh** I am terrified that i wont lose enough weight and they will cancel my surgery. I am weighing myself every day and pray to God that my scale is close to theirs. Sorry for the rambling, i am way tired and cant go to sleep...... Hope you all are doing well and hanging in there, Hugs, Judie
  20. Hi Kristen, I am glad to hear that the unjury unflavored is ok, I just wish I could have fruit to add to the shakes......my doctors office said no fruit. I bet it your smoothie is really good. **sigh** Judie
  21. Hey Arizonagirl, Im in AZ too and I have Dr. Simpson also. I am scheduled for surgery on August 12 and I am kinda struggling with the pre-op diet. Do Not, I repeat, DO NOT go on an eating binge after your consult! You will regret it when you have to go on the pre-op liquid diet and you have gained weight since your initial consult.......that is what I did and I do regret it. The bariatric coordinator told me that my BMI has to be under 50 and my weight has to be under 280 lb or the hospital WILL cancel my surgery. I was at 288 lbs at my consult, so today I am at 287 lbs, down from 290 again. Sheeesh! I am so mad at myself. No one told me about the pre-op diet when I was at the consult......i read about it on this message board and then asked the office about it about 3-4 days after my initial consult, they emailed me back and said NO PRE-OP DIET. Then the next day she emailed me back again and then said that it was a mistake and that I DO have to be on the pre op diet. So, it was a little frustrating and I was mad that I gained 2 lbs since the consult......so long story short, ask them about pre-op diet AND try not to over do it "saying goodbye" to your favorite foods. I am glugging along on my Protein shakes.......and looking forward to checking back with you as our journey proceeds. Good Luck and keep in touch. Judie
  22. Hi Debbie, I am having my surgery in Phoenix also (Dr. Simpson) on the 12th....we are practically neighbors! Which hospital will you be going to? I will be sending good wishes your way on you surgery day. All the best, Judie
  23. My surgery is scheduled for 8/12/08 and I guess, subconciously I am more concerned than I thought I was.....LOL This morning I woke up all mad because I dreamed that the room that I was put in, to wait for surgery was disgusting, like a dirty, old motel room but with unwashed clothing piled up all over the place and the bed was obviously dirty and slept in. For some reason, the hospital was in some sorth of un-used section of a strip mall somewhere and didnt look like a hospital at all! I kept insisting that I needed clean sheets and that the room was gross but none of the staff would listen to me and kept telling me that this is what my insurance paid for.......I am actually self pay so I was getting really irate in my dream and was getting ready to raise holy %$## - but then I woke up........what a crazy dream!!! I guess my pre-op liquid diet is getting to me! eeeeek! :mad2: Hope you are all doing well and hanging in there with this pre-op diet and waiting thing....... Hugs, Judie
