What a wonderful attitude & approach to all you’ve been through. I’ve had a couple of small things picked up since my surgery & weight loss ( nothing like yours - though we are fibroid twins 😉) & am grateful for the medical follow ups I’ve had, the testing I’d never had before which revealed things & even how more aware I am of my body & not just put things down to being fat & therefore unimportant & my fault.

Now to kicking those last 33lbs to the kerb.

Fab. I lost most of my excess weight within the first year of my sleeve. Wasn't planning to lose much more in the second year but I did drop another stone. Sooooo slowly. Keep the faith OP, if you stick to your programme it will work and you will continue to lose weight.

Some of the unsung benefits of losing excess weight:

A CDC info sheet on the association between obesity and 13 specific cancers it can cause.

The NIH’ s National Cancer Institute fact sheet on obesity and cancer

Spinoza got a reaction from hidooo1 in Reset
Hi Bridge! Can you fill us in on some of your stats? If you only had a little weight to lose in the first place it might be that your body has gained a little and settled into its new 'set weight' now. If you had loads to lose and you didn't quite get there then it might be helpful instead to unpick exactly what you did straight after your surgery.
I think the sleeve 'reset' might in many cases just be going back to the rules your team gave you after your surgery. Lots of fluids, Protein first at every meal, veg second, carbs last. You are still early in your journey so I suspect if you go right back to those basics you still have time to lose loads more weight (if you need to). I have only just stopped losing weight 16 months after my sleeve.
You will get good advice here, so well done for seeking help and best of luck!

    Loving this thread.
Some of my good problems relate to newfound boniness. I went on several rollercoasters in a park at Easter and ended up with bruises right down my spine - because I have no padding now and the seats are hard hard plastic. Does this happen to people who were never obese? What on earth is wrong with park operators building in a bit of wadding???
Also - my ass hurts if I have to sit on unpadded chairs anywhere for more than a few minutes. I have to start jiggling and that's not a good look.

Spinoza got a reaction from Tomo in Hunger after 4 months
Great advice above. I had a sleeve so my experience might be different from yours OP. My full on hunger returned about 7 or 8 months out. Sorry yours has come back so soon - it is sooo variable.
I have religiously stuck to the Protein first mantra ever since. I find if I eat an ounce or two of deli meat, yes it might be more calorific than veg or fruit, but it kept me full for MUCH longer. Plus gets me to protein goal.
I say experiment and find what works for you. Absolutely echo what @Arabesque says about head vs real hunger - if you're craving something particular then it might be worth trying to distract yourself/defer eating. If you're properly hungry then go for a small amount of protein and re-evaluate half an hour later.

Spinoza got a reaction from Italiano26 in November Surgery Buddies!!!
    Hi November 21 guys!!!!
Exactly 2 years to the day since my sleeve so I need to post something to mark the date.
I've lost exactly half my body weight since my surgery. I can't believe that - way beyond what I ever expected and I know it's just the luck of the draw but I feel so blessed to be in this position. The figures tickle me, LOL.
My maintenance calorie intake has settled around 1500. I don't think I'll ever be able to exceed that without regaining. That's fine - a small price to pay.
I still track absolutely everything I eat and I think I always will.
I can chug about 7 or 8 swallows of a drink (strangely this is the thing that bothered me most NOT to be able to do over the last 2 years).
I am running 2 or 3 times a week. Short distances but my aim when I started this process was to get back to that so - win.
Please could you share your experiences of the last 2 years? Good or bad.

some person on this site or a similar one (this was several years ago - I've been hanging out here for a. long time!) said that when he felt hungry, he'd ask himself if eating some chicken breast would do it for him. If yes, he was hungry. If no, then it was likely just head hunger or a craving.

There are some people who continue to feel hunger after the surgery. Be careful you’re not confusing real hunger & head hunger. Real hunger feels different. I feel like something is wrong & restless. I never want a specific food, favour or texture. And there is a reason why I feel hungry - like I haven’t eaten for a few hours. It does take time to work out your cues for real hunger.
The other issue to consider is you’re still healing. Someone recently posted their surgeon said it can take 8 weeks or more to fully heal internally after a sleeve. This includes your nerves which were cut which is why our messages for hunger, satiety, etc, aren’t accurately felt, or in the case if your restriction not felt at all during this recovery period. It’s why we have to be careful of how much we eat & drink. I always say all because you can doesn’t mean you should. You may be able to eat a portion larger than you’ve been told or drink more but the signals telling you stop or warning you of danger aren’t working properly. Go slowly making small changes. Best not to push to see how much you think you can do.
There’s lots of little things to learn about post surgery, consider & most importantly learn about yourself. But you’ll get there.
All the best with your recovery.

Lots of people have revision surgery for lots of reasons and the vast majority of them are *absolutely* fine.
I'm sorry you're having this worry - I know you don't need that when you've had to go for an additional procedure. I hope everything will be good for you long term.

Oh yes I get the comparing yourself to others. That is REALLY HARD. I say Celebrate the 18lbs in 2 weeks (when have you ever lost even close to that on any diet?), get to know how the three week stall hits almost all of us (and can last a few weeks) and then settle into your programme and enjoy the big losses to come. 3lbs gain in a month is nothing to worry about - honestly.
I am really surprised that you're allowed bread at such an early stage. My plan was Protein then veg and no carbs for many months. When I did start earing bread it sat in my stomach like a lump of lead - so did Pasta and rice. Less so 2 years on but I honestly only use them like a weapon in certain situations - not for daily consumption even now.
I wish you all the best

Oh I can't think that your mother saying that comes from a place of any 'best' intention OP. Sorry your mum has this approach.
I've had SO many people ask me whether or not my weight loss was intentional (subtext being- are you ill??) I beam them a beatific smile and say yes, absolutely intentional - hard work but so worth it!
Perhaps get yourself ready to counter the next inappropriate comment and move on?

That does seem low calorie-wise. Is this in keeping with your team's plan OP? I agree with the others - focus on macros now - you should be hitting those goals every day (or as close to that as possible).
I wish you all the luck in the months ahead.

I second what everyone has said so far. Unless you started in excess of 400 or 500lbs you’re doing fine. If the number in the scale is bothering you (&it can do a number in some people’s heads), maybe reduce how often you weigh yourself - you don’t have to do it every day.
Weight loss is never one straight downward line on a graph. It zigs & zags, goes up & down, & plateaus. Our bodies have different needs each day, we don’t eat & drink the exact same things every day, our activity is different day to day so our weight loss won’t be exactly the same day to day. We may be retaining Fluid (hormonal or diet related), constipated, have diarrhoea, etc. as well which will affect the number on the scale.
Also don’t forget you can include your shakes & Soups in your fluid intake for the day so you may be closer to your fluid goal than you think.
My plan was also no bread, Pasta, rice like most are. I still don’t eat them as like @Spinoza they sit heavily in my tummy and limit what else I can eat & I’m 4.5 years out. I still follow the eat my Protein first, then vegetables. (I only have two serves of carbs a day & they’re whole/multi grains - complex carbs - not the more highly processed simple carbs.)
If you are concerned speak with your team. I always told myself if my surgeon & dietician were happy with my weight loss I should be too.
    All the best.

I did gastric bypass + hiatal hernia repair June 6. I have had very few "issues"-- a couple of "one step over the line," one incident of the dreaded foamies, but generally, smooth sailing.
I was at around 274 lbs and now am at around 206-7, depending on scale and time of day. That's crazy! I look at the stats for how much folks lose on average and this seems to be beyond the norm. I'm not complaining-- I not only walk, but got into a rigorous exercise regime with a trainer. His focus, for now, is balance, and "whole body"--I do some weights but the "balance" stuff has been a real blessing.
I have checked the boxes with the M.D.s- my cardiologist has no problem with testosterone treatment as a means to build muscle mass. I need to get my surgeon to sign off on that, just to be sure.
But man, this has been an amazing journey in a very short time. I'm way more mobile, fit into clothes I forgot I had (I used to buy really nice stuff, turned into a slob, and now I'm caring about my appearance again!).
I'm closing in on 70 years-- and have not felt this vigorous in a long while. My taste buds have definitely changed. But it's worth the trade-off in health and fitness. And no more GERD!!!

Spinoza got a reaction from summerseeker in What are some quintessentially Irish/Scottish/Welsh/English soft foods?
Soups, stews, potato topped pies will be your friends.
Irish stew - if you can get lamb or mutton and braise slowly with the usual veg - plus or minus potatoes of various types.
Beef shin with Guinness or red wine and root veg.
Shepherds pie (sorry @summerseeker the clue is in the name!!) is lamb mince based. Cottage pie is beef based.
Absolutely yes to potato OR cauli based colcannon.
    Fish pie.
    Chicken/mushroom and gravy pie.
