i kinda had an unusual experience..well maybe not too unusual. but when i had surgery last tuesday...the doc found a hiatal hernia as well that needed repaired. after surgery i didn't get one of the drugs he likes to give his patients because some of my levels were too high. so i got some morphine in recovery, and then didn't get anything until i complained about a headache 7 hours later (and mind you i kept telling the nurses that i didn't feel well and thought i couldn't breathe). i didn't start feeling better until saturday. i was on percocet and only used 10 of the 30 he wrote for me. i'm much better now...just have the soreness from the hernia repair now..

that's wonderful karen! i'm a week and two days post op (been back to work for two days already!) and doing really well! unfortunately i'm not sure when i'll get to a support group meeting. when i registered for fall classes i hadn't thought much about the surgery and i have a tuesday night class in ebensburg. so i'm hoping that the teacher might let me go to a few. i really want to do well and i know meeting and talking to others will really help that. feel free to email me if you have any questions or just want to talk. that's been my godsend at work...there at least four others at work and a couple of volunteers who have already had the surgery and they've proved to be an invaluable source of information no matter what. so here's to you!! the journey will be so worth it!

my doc's office doesn't sell anything like that. the nutritionist i saw where i had surgery (and ironically work) gave me a list of different protein powders and the prices at walmart, gnc and i think a local grocery store just so some patients have a frame of reference. i was so thrilled last night...i had really smooth egg salad. and it tasted heavenly!! hope everyone is doing well!!! take care!

yep...i'm in the soft food stage as of today! doc released me back to work...a week and a day after surgery. i'm still pretty sore too. this is interesting. and the doc told me to enjoy the soft foods now...cuz once that's over...no more. he's very big on avoiding the slide through foods. i have a question. i was looking online at those protein bullets and stopped at a local GNC yesterday. they didn't have any in the store but they carry them online...bad thing is that you have to buy 12. i would love to just try one of each flavor to see if this is something i'm going to want to use. anyone know where i might be able to do that?? glad folks are feeling better...and good luck to those yet to come!!

time will serious fly by! as for sleeping...i'd love to do more than sleep on my back. i've been in my bed ever since i came home...but i've never been one to sleep on my back at all. i've tried both sides and it still pulls like crazy. so i'm off to sleep for about two hours until my back begs for mercy then wakes me up. then i'll sit for a bit and sleep that way...and who knows. i'm feeling much better...but i'm still not sure how i can go back to work all sore and grabbing my stomach when i sneeze or cough. i sit at a computer most days doing data entry and fixing others computer problems. it will all work itself out in time. gotta go look into these whey protein bullets you all are talking about. take care everyone!!! sorry to hear about your dry heaves and everything. i hear ya about those spasms. if mine don't soon slow down, i'll be making a phone call. love to you all!!!

funny that you said that. i'm trying no pills today and it's going well so far. and my friend is coming to pick me up and take me to her house or somewhere other than these four walls. i'm so excited! carry on my friends! we're doing it!!! woo hoo!!! and good luck to those who are just starting after surgery!

yeah being tired is the worst right now. i'm trying to get all my walking and breathing exercises in but i'm so wiped out! glad to hear you guys are doing good too. i'm on shakes for a week until i see the doctor. then i hope to move on to something that tastes different. there's only so much chocolate and vanilla one person can drink. take care everyone!!

well i've been home almost 24 hours. still not sure how i'm doing. i think i'm sleeping for a couple of hours then i have to get up and walk. i had more than the band done. my doc found a hernia and fixed it, plus there was a spot or something on my liver. and to boot one of my levels was too high right after surgery, so i didn't get the normal pain meds. and lucky me...all the nurses just assumed that i was on the normal stuff so that first night it took them seven hours to finally listen to me that i was in pain and needed something. i think all of this has really slowed down my bounce back time. but i'm trying to hang in there. so glad you guys are all here! good luck to everyone who has yet to be banded! i think it's time for another trip around my house. love you all!!

ok so here i sit in my hospital room...not too bad so far. i'm just so thirsty all the time and my throat hurts. but this is just the beginning! i can so feel it! the lady that was in the room with me had her band done yesterday. she said she had some issue with anesthesia but wow...one day and she was buzzing around this room today getting ready to go home. i hope i bounce back that quick! hope everyone else is doing well!!!!!

man i would love that! although i have to say i felt really good today when i got on the scale and saw that i lost another 7 pounds...and still a week to go until surgery. i just keeping telling myself positive things! take care all!!!

yeah i think i have too as well. i though my starbucks enjoyment was over!

i hear ya! yesterday was just the worst for me! i couldn't get rid of my headache for anything. i upped my protein and i know it's not from lack of caffeine. they said the amount i drink a day is fine. i think it's just such a shock to the system. plus we cleaned up a huge room at work...so i'm sure i burned a few extra calories...i just keep crossing off the days.

i'm august 5th too! :svengo: started that fun fasting two week diet. so far today has been the worst...i'm not hungry...but man i have the headache of all headaches. i think it's the withdrawal from sugar and carbs. i'm still drinking diet iced tea...so i know it's not from lack of caffiene. but you know in the end this will all be so worth it!!! so glad i found you all!!! :biggrin:

that's interesting...i asked the nurse at my doctor's office and she said she didn't think the pills the weight loss clinic gave me wouldn't be a problem. but she did tell me to ask the anesthesiologist at my pre-op visit tomorrow just to be sure. glad i took a look at this!:eek:

man what's going to kill me for the next two weeks will be any department lunches we have at work. the boss has told everyone to think of me when they chose where to eat...i'm hoping that i can just flip my dinner calories for lunch ones those days. but then there's getting through the night time hours. that's when i want to snack the most. i'm hoping the protein water will help. anyone have any suggestions? :eek:

so i got my dates all confirmed today! and i can't believe that it's finally going to happen... hi...i'm steph and i live in PA. everyone that i work with has been so supportive...my boss has even offered to do my two week pre-op diet with me! you guys are so wonderful and it's great to hear about people who are just like you. so glad i found this site!

wow...i start my 14 day fasting diet for surgery tomorrow, then my pre-op visit on wednesday and surgery on august 5th. my diet is protein drink for breakfast and lunch and then a 350-400 calorie dinner. i can't believe how fast this is all going. :biggrin:
