This journey sort of requires you have to stop caring what other people think or you and your choices. We've all got a path to walk; some of us are good at staying on theirs and others feel like they've got to get in the middle of yours and pretend every choice they've made is perfect. Giving advice like, oh you just need to walk more, is condescending.

However much you think you need, you probably won't use half of it. All you're going to want to do is sleep.

On the night before I started my pre-op diet, I had three sushi rolls and a Hendricks gin and tonic. Zero regrets. It was delicious.

It's kinda dangerous this close to the surgery. The last hurrah should've been before you started your liver shrinking pre-op diet. The night before I started mine, I had a 3 oz rib-eye steak, 3/4 cup of mashed potatoes, and 4 shots of tequila! But, then I buckled down 10 days before the revision to an all liquid diet. My doc told me if they found food in my stomach or gut during the surgery, he was gonna cancel everything and sew me back up. Then, I'd have to wait another 3-6 months before he'd consider it again.

I think the time for the last hurrah is before your pre-op diet OP. Eating off plan so close to your surgery might actually jeopardise the procedure because the whole point is to shrink your liver so they can get in to perform it.
I totally understand the cravings - we all do. But you will have this lots in the next few months and if you can get past them then you will see amazing weight loss. I wish you the best of luck.

At this stage you might almost be better off with a hearty thick black bean Soup vs a burger, if you're craving Beans. You could use almost all the same ingredients that would go into the burger.

pintsizedmallrat got a reaction from Sigh in How did you select your goal weight?
My goal weight shifted a few times. I want to preface all of this by stating I am very short statured, so these numbers are going to sound extremely low. I had a BMI of 46 when I started the process and weighed 245 pounds.
I chose 120 at first, then found out I would still be considered overweight, so I lowered it to 110, which is dead-center of a healthy weight range according to the BMI scale. Ironically my posture has improved since my surgery and I am an inch taller now, and 120 would have been fine all along (for a woman my size it's between 94 and 124 pounds).

I dont think the surgery fails as much as we the people fail! I also suggest using the baritastic app for tracking everything you put in your mouth. Sometimes we don't realize how much we are actually eating in a day. I would rather eat my carbs than drink them. You will be more full from food carbs rather than liquid carbs. A lot of the juices, even the one's we are giving our kids because we think they are healthy, are in fact not healthy. Also if you are working out, remember muscle weighs more than fat. On the baritastic app it lets you keep track of measurements such as arms, thighs chest, hips and waist. Maybe measure yourself and keep track of that monthly. You will see a difference in inches lost. That is great encouragement. Good luck to you on your journey!

Safe for her to leave what exactly? The house? Loose skin isn't going to harm her unless it's causing rashes or some kind of infection.

If she is concerned she should discuss that with her doctor. Unless she has some special concerns about her skin that aren't being said here (such as a dermatological condition), loose skin is not generally harmful. It's primarily an aesthetic concern. Most of the time, the worst thing it will do to you is make you self-conscious.

Prior to my sleeve surgery, I had two exploratory surgeries for endometriosis and my gall bladder removed, so a total of 3 abdominal surgeries. No one at my surgeon's office seemed concerned about it and it was barely mentioned.

You can never predict how much loose skin you end up with. Too many factors influence the end result even with siblings. Then the next questions your sister might ask herself are: Does the loose skin impede you - from doing every day tasks or being more active? Does it make dressing difficult - have to go up sizes, clothes don’t fit well, can’t hide it easily, etc.? Do you have rashes or infections? Does it affect how you see yourself, confidence, etc.?
I have some loose skin, not a lot. It doesn’t restrict my activity. It doesn’t limit my clothing choices & I can dress easily to cover it. It hasn’t affected my self confidence either. So for me I didn’t think it necessary to consider skin removal surgery. It’s very much a personal decision.

Abusers (emotional, physical or both) lacking control of their own lives, target people with low self-esteem to feed their need to feel power over another. As you lose weight and gain more self-confidence, he will feel he is losing control over you and the mental abuse will escalate. He will sabotage your journey at every turn fearing you may realize you have better options! What exactly is he bringing to "the table"? It appears you are completely supporting this man and providing a roof over his head for the meager price of cleaning and dinner on the table. A lazy man is bad enough but a lazy, abusive man is nothing more than a parasitic piece of trash. You deserve so much better.

I suppose this another "good problem" but I'm allergic to gold and both rings are an inexpensive but lovely sterling/morganite combo...when my engagement ring became too big it was actually cheaper to just get an entire set than get the original ring sized (although I plan to have the stone reset in a pendant at some point for sentimental reasons). I wear a silicone band most of the time unless I go out; I don't want my good ones to get damaged.

-I don't weigh enough to donate blood anymore.
-I've had two sets of wedding/engagement rings since my surgery and now BOTH are too big.
-I literally shrank my way out of the smallest size my favorite jeans come in.

It's probably because it is lower in Vitamins and minerals; I don't know if it's a "forbidden" kind of thing or maybe a gentler "Hey if you're going to have a salad choose darker greens that offer more micronutrients because iceberg is basically crunchy water."
Iceberg isn't going to hurt you, it just would probably be better to choose something like spinach or spring mix because those greens contain Iron and Calcium, something we bariatric folks often struggle to get enough of.

Could be Water weight, could be hormones, could be the day of the week, could just be...your turn to have a minor setback. You'll have some fluctuation here and there and as you lose more and the weight loss slows, you may notice it more. This is not a "failure" and it's destructive to frame it that way to yourself. It's part of the process. It's going to be ok. Don't beat yourself up. Don't sabotage yourself. Just keep going.

pintsizedmallrat got a reaction from GreenTealael in My hair is falling out AGAIN and I am not OK
I'm 22 months post op...and my hair started falling out again.
I've been sick since February with what they finally determined is sarcoidosis, which means I have to be on steroids for probably the next 6-12 months. Luckily, it's not making me gain weight, in fact it's making me lose more. Prednisone can cause Hair loss, and I know I'm not eating enough, but it's really hard for me to do so. I had to stop taking Calcium during my treatment. There's just so many factors causing this and I don't know what to do other than just ride it out and get a new collection of hats and bandanas. I don't really want to wear a wig, I ride a motorcycle and I can't exactly stuff a wig under a helmet, and all I can imagine is how hot and itchy it's going to be.
After the first time it happened, at the normal time most people experience it, 3-4 months after my surgery it came right back a couple months later, thicker and healthier than ever...but I'm not healthy right now, and my hair is letting me know. The hair loss might actually be WORSE this time.
I don't know that I'm looking for advice, but I'm just screaming and sobbing into the void right now. I thought I was done with this but here we are again.

Oh no… this must be so hard for you. I’m at the “typical” point right now (4 months out) dealing with shedding over the last two weeks. My hair fills a brush twice a day!! And I still lose clumps in the shower. It has been heart breaking even though I knew it was likely, actually dealing with it emotionally and physically has been so hard. So when you say this is your third time going through this in the last two years, I felt like I just wanted to give you a hug.
it’s true there isn’t a whole lot you can do except commiserate, but I hope you know it’s safe to do so here and we understand. Hang in there!
