    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had my surgery on March 22; I've lost 102 pounds. My starting weight at home was 308.6 and my weight this morning was 206.4. However, my rheumatologist has my highest weight at 314.8, so according to him, I've lost 108 pounds. Whatever the loss, it's great. I still see a heavy person when I look in the mirror, but my clothes were a 4x and now I can wear a large. I had the sleeve and I've had terrible reflux. So bad, I have inhaled it into my lungs while I sleep several times. My doctor wants to do a revision after the holidays. 😒

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I’m still on puréed for two more weeks (surgery date was 3/22). Then I can move to soft foods for 3 weeks. I’m currently back in the hospital; Monday night I had an a-fib episode. I’ve never had a-fib issues before but they do not think it is WLS related. Because of my surgery, they put me back on a liquid diet while I am here because they don’t really have puréed foods that are heart healthy. I think I had a total of 183 calories yesterday and like 2 protein. I’m taking steps backwards instead of forwards. Ugh. I did manage to drink more water yesterday but I am still nowhere near my goal of 50 ounces (that’s where my nephrologist wants me). I think I was at 33 ounces. Hopefully I will be out of here tomorrow so I can get back on track!

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi everyone! I thought I would finally check in. I had my surgery last Tuesday, March 22. I am six days post op and feeling okay. I was able to de-gas by Thursday (ugh, gas pains are the worst) and I have been having daily bowel movements since then. I have a lot of medical issues and one of them is kidney disease and my kidneys are not at all happy about this surgery, which was a concern before surgery. I've actually gained weight because I cannot pee. All the water I drink has nowhere to go but my feet, ankles and legs. I am eating about 250 calories a day because my new stomach (Phoebe) hates everything (everything tastes like metal - probably because of my meds). Oh, and I can't seem to keep my heart rate above 50. That's all the bad stuff. The good news is that I haven't had any pain meds since the day of my surgery. My nausea isn't as bad as expected and after over doing it on Friday and taking it easy over the weekend, my incision pain is not too bad. Every day I set a goal for myself and so far, I am hitting my little goals. 🎖️

Good luck tomorrow to all our March 21's! I will be thinking about you all! I had my Covid test today. My first one ever. I'm looking forward to "Transformation Tuesday" (that's what my surgeon calls it).

I'm going to pack my phone charger, a robe and some slide on shoes for walking. Chapstick and hair things... toothbrush, toothpaste. My C-pap machine. I'm not really sure what else. Clothes to come home in. My 15 year-old daughter and I have been watching all the Oscar nominated movies before the Oscars at the end of March... if we haven't finished by my recovery time, we will take that time to catch up. My husband works from home and I homeschool my 15 and 17 year-olds (they will be on spring break the week of my surgery) and my daughter, who is 25 and lives 90 minutes away, is going to come home and "help" for a few days... which really means she is using my surgery as an excuse to come home and see the dog. I have a feeling we will be watching a lot of movies and if the weather is nice, we will be doing a lot of walking around the block.

I have to do 10 days of 6 meals consisting of one protein shake and a half cup cooked non-starch veggies or a cup of raw non-starch veggies and a half a cup of fruit. I can also have broth, jello, popsicles, sugar-free drinks, water. I start that two weeks from yesterday. I went to Costco yesterday and purchased some Gatorade Protein drinks and some protein shakes. 😬 It's starting to feel real!
