  1. Wow, only three more days. Since I've been on this pre op diet it seems like time is going so slowly. Hopefully for you the three days will pass by quickly. What do you mean by the "band leader"? Are you part of a group of people being banded on the same day or month? Good luck and I hope everything goes smoothly for you during surgery.
  2. As many of you already know my wife and I are both being banded at the end of the month. When we are out we keep looking a thin people and wondering if we will be as thin. Also when we see other overweight people we feel like going up to then and telling them about the band. Anyone one else analyzing thin people or feel like telling a perfect stranger about the band?
  3. Congrats!! That really exciting news. Some people have to wait six weeks. My doctor just told me he will do my first fill four weeks post op but I cannot schedule it until after I see him one week post surgery.
  4. I've been wondering what name you have been leaning more towards. I like Stanley and all the associations with the name. Much better then Abe. Stanley seems to be a really friendly name as well. Good choice if you go with it.
  5. Thanks for sharing!!! I love hearing positive stories like yours. It makes me glad I am making this decision.
  6. Well congrats on being banded and on you weight loss!!!! Your pre op diet sounds much better then mine. I wish I could have some chicken. Oh - well I will be banded soon. I'm glad to hear everything is going well. Keep us posted.
  7. Congrats to being banded!!! I hope you feel better soon and please take some meds if you are in pain. It is one thing to be sore, but don't be miserable if you can help it. Good job with starting the walking.
  8. Congratulations!!! It really feel good when you start to lose. Keep up the pre op diet, Aug 20th will be here very soon.
  9. To be sure, you want to call your doctor's office and double check with them. However, I believe anything you can read a newspaper through is considered to be "clear."
  10. Congratulations on getting your band Gary. I'm glad to hear everything went smoothly for you and you are doing well.
  11. I agree with Bigrick. Plus the stronger you are the more self confidence you will have.

Congrats Watcher!! I'm getting banded the same day too.
  13. If you need more to do...you are welcome to come over and clean my house too.
  14. Started the two week pre op diet on Monday, August 11 and down 4.5 pounds.
  15. My wife and I were thinking about going to Lehigh Valley Hospital b/c it is much closer to home. However, the six month wait is NOT required by our insurance. At the informational seminar they made it sound like all insurance companies require the six month wait. We decided to south to Elkins Park since we could get the surgery sooner.
  16. Welcome to the forum. You will find lots of great advice and supportive people here.
  17. I went to see my doctor today for the last time before surgery. He gave me a prescription for Tylonel with codine. However, I've read many threads where people only used Tyonel with out the codine. If you think you will need pain medication you may want to consider asking your doctor for the prescription early so you can have it filled and at home when you get back. You really do not want to have to wait in a pharmacy after surgery in pain or discomfort.
  18. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting a date. My wife is being banded on the 26th as well. I get it the day before.
  19. The best thing is to call your insurance company and find out what their qualifications are for surgery. Generally if you have a BMI >40 you should be covered. BUt again, every insurance company is different.
  20. With all the talk about cheating on the pre op diet, I wanted to clarify that my pre op diet includes vegetables. I'm not on a 100% liquid diet until the day before surgery.
  21. Yesterday I tested GNC's taste guarantee on their shakes. I did not like their strawberry or mixed berry whey Protein shakes. I returned them with the receipt and exchanged them for new flavors. These shakes are really expensive. It's great to know you can return them if you do not like the taste. I also found a great food journal there called "DietMinder." It's perfect for keeping track of everything you eat and exercise.
  22. Several weeks ago there was a thread with a link to an article about how people lose more weight when they write everything down. After reading the article I decided to keep a food journal once I start the two week pre op diet. Yesterday I was at GNC and found a perfect food journal called "DietMinder." There is a place to record every meal, Water consumption, vitamins/medications, and even has a place to record daily exercise. You can also find the journal at it's website by the same name (dietminder.com). Anyway I just thought it would share a great product to help in our weight loss journey.
  23. I understand your annoyance. I too was annoyed when I received a similar message from a different monitor. However, once I explained that both my wife and I are members of the forum there were no more issues. Bottom line is it is your choice if you want to leave, however, you are giving up a support group that cannot be replaced. Yes, you can come back and read the forum at anytime from any computer but you will not be able to ask your specific questions and get advice concerning the issues you that affect you. Plus, we will all miss you.
  24. I'm on two weeks of Protein shakes and veggies. I can also have as much SF Jello, popsicles, and Water ice as I want, as long as it is SF. However, to be honest I have already cheated some. After reading all the different types of pre-op diets on this forum and realizing that many have a much shorter pre-op diet, especially with lower BMI's I decided I will not follow the diet to the T for the first week. I know I'm bad, but that's my decision. I'm not pigging out or anything like that. My calories each day is between 800 - 1200. Next week I will strictly follow the diet. I may even add an extra day of clear liquids just before the surgery.
  25. Alright, my wife and I are both now on the pre-op diet. We are both are teachers and went to school yesterday afternoon to start getting our rooms ready. Our surgeries are really close to the start of school so we want our rooms ready early. Anyway afterwards we were tired and extremely hungry and the kids were asking to go to McDonald's. Instead we went to Applebee's b/c we know they have WW meals. We discovered you can really have a great tasting and filling meal while being on the pre-op diet. Here is what we ordered: Wife - unsweetened ice-tea (she adds propel powder to it to give it flavor), french onion Soup with no cheese and no bread, a side of steamed veggies plain and a side of steamed broccoli plain. She also ordered a second bowl of soup and started to dip the veggies into it. She liked the flavor. Me - diet coke, French onion soup with no cheese and no bread, a side of steamed broccoli plain, a garden salad with no cheese and no croutons, instead of salad dressing I asked for their pico de gallo which gave the salad and extra kick. I ask for some more and put it on top of the broccoli. It was all very good and tasty. Anyway, if your struggling on the two week pre-op diet and really want to go out to eat again, here is a great suggestion.
