I would seriously consider another doc. There are medications that are no longer appropriate for you and I assume other things that will only make sense in the context that you had surgery. Thats something that the doctor needs to know. Of course you can just remind them with every rx that you had the sleeve and make sure it’s okay but if they are missing that, what else are they missing.

Thank you everyone. That’s a really good point that was made, whether or not he even looked at my records. It is certainly frustrating that doctors just seem hyper focused on one measure. I am giving thought to moseying on down the road to another doctor. And, my husband had the snip, so I was able to stop the pill and hopefully my BP continues to go back to normal. He also reminds me that BMI is not an accurate measure of total body composition. 😊

I would be finding another doctor. If he didnt even review your record what else did he not see? Honestly, there are many things that you could do to get your BP down including just cutting down on salt a little and it could be that your BP was just high that particular day. Mine is always higher at the dr office. Did he have any ideas on other kinds of birth control for you if you stopped the pills? If you are a size 6-8 you do not need to lose more weight!

The BMI is a flawed guide, with "guide" being the operative word. I'm *JUST* in the "normal BMI" range now, and I'm a US6-8/AU10-12, at 5 foot 7 inches. My collarbone, neck tendons, chest bones all stick out, I can see my ribs, my muscles and tendons in my arms etc. I can even see my hip bones through the loose skin. I look skinny - I know I do, because I get a shock every time I see my full-body reflection, and I've been called skinny by others. But my BMI and the Hip/Waist ratio markers all suggest I'm not. My Hip/Waist ratio tells me I'm still quite overweight! It really doesn't take body shape into account as I've never had an hourglass figure - I joke that I'm shaped like a plank with tits. Straight up and down.
So don't take the BMI to heart, and I think it would be a good idea to tell this doctor your history. Some doctors don't think beyond their charts, unfortunately.

Does he have your records. He must not have reviewed them too closely if he didn’t know that you had a major surgery and that your weight is way down. Honestly I wouldn’t care much about his opinion of my weight but I may take that as a hint that he isn’t paying enough attention to your history.

Yes, if you eat until you "feel full" you will stretch your pouch. The restriction is temporary. Use it to learn how to eat differently. You're not much at risk at the puree stage, but you must still control your intake. During the restrictive period overeating may be uncomfortable or even painful--but not everyone experiences that physical sensation. Follow the guidelines provided by your clinic as to quantities. You will never again have this tool, so use it wisely.

Try FitLife fat-free milk. It's ultra-pasturized and lactose free--plus it tastes good. It also froths like a dream.

I also encourage you to buy a few bariatric cookbooks. There are many on Amazon. They give ideas for all stages post-surgery.

I hope you know that there will be a drain or drains following your bariatric surgery! I found them uncomfortable but bearable.

I eat until my appropriately portion-sized meal is complete or when I get the message that the next bite will be a mistake, whichever comes first. This is the rule I've followed since day one with the caveat that for the first 6 months I never completed my meal and learning when the next bite would be a mistake was less than fool-proof.
    Good luck,

Restriction to me is the emotional or mental feeling of wanting to eat a whole pizza but after a few bites, you feel you have had enough. The build up to the point is different to everyone. Everyone has different signals like runny nose, hiccups, pressure in their upper chest... Etc. I just feel satisfied. I stop early, at about 75% full. I learned in the early days of my first surgery 2008, one bite too many can give you hours and hours of being uncomfortable. I recently went through another new learning curve after my revision to bypass ( for gerd).

I chose 200 pounds because even though it still has me at overweight, I felt an looked GREAT at that weight. And I haven't been 200 pounds in 26 years. My secret goal weight is 170, but if I don't make that, it's ok. 200 is really the one I'm the most concerned about.

I didn't/ don't have a goal weight because I have been crushed by not achieving it in the past. Also I don't know how far this surgery will take me. The hospital dietician said I could loose 65% of my excess weight and I have already smashed that, her words. Loosing 100lbs was my first goal and I got there easy. I personally would like to get under the 200lbs barrier even if its only a pound. Not being in the obese category would be nice too......

Sunnyway got a reaction from Arabesque in So depressed about my hair
I lost hair and started wearing chemo caps and headscarves and finally bought a wig. Then I made a new friend who is utterly bald due to alopecia. Her courage in going hairless has been inspirational and I have become much less self-conscious about my thin hair. My hair has started growing back (but is still very thin). My head gets cold so I do wear baseball caps and knit stocking caps but I'm no longer embarrassed to go bare-headed inside.

I dropped 50+ lbs pre-surgery by cutting out all foods containing sugar, flour, white potatoes, rice, and processed foods. These are my trigger foods. I consider myself to be a sugar/food addict. I can never go back to eating these things with abandon.

I started using the Baritastic app. I occasionally used liquid Protein Shakes during that period. My calorie count dropped to around 1000 per day. I attended Water exercise classes three days a week, including swimming 1/4 mile each time. I also increased my mileage on my walking tricycle to at least a mile a day.
I've lost another 50+ lbs since my RNY>RNY revision surgery. I still strive to avoid my trigger foods. It's harder to resist now and weight loss is slow going, but I'm still dropping a few pounds a month with lengthy stalls.

Unfortunately what you experienced is exactly why few surgeons do lap band surgery anymore. A bad result does not necessarily mean medical malpractice.
You had bad luck, just as I did. I had RNY>RNY revision last December 21. Ten days later I was airlifted back to the hospital with peritonitis and sepsis. My small intestine had split post surgery and everything I consumed was entering my abdominal cavity. I spent 7 weeks in hospital, had 3 endoscopy procedures, two open surgeries, and then spent 3 more weeks in a rehab facility. This was just about as bad as it could get: I was near death. However, I recovered without loss of any organs, limbs, or mental capacity. I never blamed my surgeon or the hospital.

Yes, I do agree. I don't think people realize how things come out of their mouth sometimes.
Sometimes, it is just plain mean and they still don't think it is.. those people are dicks. LOL
For example I was told "if you loose too much more weight you will be unattractive to me" lol.. ok 1st: it is fine that you like big girls, 2: I don't care if I am "attractive to YOU".. I care I am happy with myself and attractive to my partner. And, honestly.. if my weight loss became UN attractive to my partner.. that wouldn't stop me either it just may stop my relationship..
This is for me.. for just about the first time ever.. it is FOR ME..

Sunnyway reacted to Arabesque in Mango juice?
I was told no fruit juice either not even 100% juice no added sugar ones. Takes several pieces of fruit to make a glass of juice. You get all the sugar but don’t get all the nutrients & benefits of the whole fruit. So it is better to have a single piece of fruit when you are allowed.
    But check with your dietician.
Honestly I did buy a small bottle of all juice no added sugar when I was out shopping early in my 2nd month as I had a sudden drop of energy & some hypoglycaemia. I had a couple of sips but it was awful - far too sweet. I learnt then to carry a bottle of diluted hydralite with me whenever I left home.

I had a really odd NSV that ended up being a bit expensive lol. I’m only 4 weeks post op, but I was forced into a corporate meeting where I was going to have a wear a suit. I was PISSED. I have smaller and larger sized suits, but I was between the sizes I currently owned. Wasn’t about to invest in another suit. I managed to find something halfway decent at Kohls, and I was able to fit into a X-Large or Large off the rack. (the large size was generous and stretch, of course). Then I freaked out because all of the dress shoes I have are too narrow and small. I went to DSW and they were having a boot sale. Well, I went wild. I was so happy to be able to fit into tall REGULAR calf sized boots that I bought, ahem, SEVERAL pairs. 💰💵💸🤑. I couldn’t find pumps that fit, so I resurrected a pair of old pumps I had for the suit 🤣. My husband was confused because I went to buy dress shoes and walked out with two HUGE bags of boots. Lol. Good thing he loves me. Pic of me with a Christmas dress I’m planning to wear, and red knee high boots!
