Your surgeon and/or your dietician should make this recommendation. I was advised to only take a Multivitamin yet others are told to take Iron, Calcium, Vitamin D, etc. as well as the multi. The type of surgery you have can also influence your supplement needs.
I believe the advice I was given was initially based upon my pre surgical blood work & they weren’t adjusted post surgery as my bloods always came back good. In fact I don’t take Vitamins at all now - stopped at 8 months post surgery - didn’t need them & still don’t.
Everyone is different though & you may need to take additional supplements depending upon what you’re lacking in. No point taking a Vitamin if you don’t need it - expensive & can too much can have adverse effects.

I agree, it is confusing. I started off with items from this site, such as a bariatric Multivitamin capsule that contains Iron. I also got two different flavors of chewable calcium citrate from Bariatric Advantage. Although I was able to swallow the capsule, the chewable calciums were very large, gummed up in the back of my throat which made me gag, and tasted gross. My surgeon’s office recommended Citracal petites. I was able to swallow those.
Within a month, however, I had to change up everything. The iron in the capsule made me vomit, so I purchased a slow release iron tablet upon a pharmacist’s advice. This has been a godsend. I had to find a standalone multivitamin without iron, which I found at a grocery store. Then, The Citracal was making me vomit, so I found a liquid Calcium citrate, not great tasting but I can definitely tolerate it.
Do some reading, look at reviews, and start with a small supply of what you think will be good for you: multivitamin, iron, and calcium citrate. Take them at the start of a meal to help prevent stomach upset. If something doesn’t feel right, contact your doctor or nutritionist, and there are so many other options! Good luck!

Well you will want chewable for a while at least and Calcium should be calcium citrate. I take the Bariatric Advantage of the multi Vitamin and calcium chews. My nutritionist had samples of them. Mostly it’s a matter of tastes as long as they meet the surgeons requirements. I did get one flavor from them I didn’t like and they took it back and processed a refund no questions asked but I’m willing to bet if you called and asked they would send you samples. Their number is 800-898-6888. If you are going to see a nutritionist or have a bariatric coordinator wait to order until after you see them because they may have a discount code if they endorse the Vitamins you choose. I didn’t wait and missed out on any discounts because it only applied the first time.

I like to throw veggies I have on hand - onions, mushrooms, peppers, zucchini into a pan and sauté with salt/pepper. Add in fresh garlic for 1 min. Add in ground beef or turkey. Then crushed Tomato. It is hearty and healthy. And soft

    Hi everyone,
I will graduate from my full liquids stage and start my soft blended/ puréed food diet in two days time.
I am well aware that I should avoid any lumps at this stage and that all foods must be blended well with a “yoghurt-like” consistency. Each meal must include a Protein source (meat, fish, legumes, eggs, or tofu) to keep up my protein intake and aid in wound healing.
Keeping in mind I need 4-6 “meals” a day, I was wondering what simple recipe ideas are out there...
What are the tried and tested recipe favourites?
Off the top of my head ~ hummus, guacamole, tuna and low fat mayonnaise...
    Thank you in advance ❤️

you may want to check out the blog "The World According to Eggface". She's a long-time bariatric patient (and still very active in the bariatric community) who loves to cook - she has several recipes on her site for all post-op stages.

Because today I’m apparently eating like a hobbit, I present second breakfast!
2 eggs, a cup shredded fresh spinach, 1/4 cup onions, 1/4 cup tomatoes, 1/4 cup snow peas, 2tbsp roasted red peppers, 1tsp garlic, topped with 2tbsp cheddar cheese and black truffle salt.
Total comes to 248 calories and 19g of Protein for the whole thing. I’ll maybe eat the rest later.

Let me preface this by saying I used to LOVE Girl Scout Cookies and would buy them by the case before WLS. Last year and this year though I didn’t because they’re usually too sweet now.
However! GNC does sell these bad boys (along with Protein shakes). And while still sweet, they’re much easier on my pouch to eat than a sleeve of thin mints like I used to prior to WLS.

post-op progression varies a lot between surgeons. They had me on purees as soon as I left the hospital, but most people are on liquids for the first two weeks (sometimes more), before moving on to purees.

    Soft Proteins, yes.

    I used my own recipe.

    2 eggs
    15oz part skim ricotta
    1/4 cup grated parmesan
    1tsp ground garlic
    1tsp black pepper
    Dash of basil
    1tsp Italian seasoning
    1tsp salt

    Mix all these well.

Spoon 1 to 2 teaspoons into each spot on a mini muffin baking pan that you’ve sprayed with Pam.

Sprinkle a touch of reduced fat mozzarella on top of each.

    Bake 20 minutes at 375.

I’m thinking of making a bariatric cooking/recipe blog. I love cooking and being inventive and really want to stay within my approved foods. So it may be neat!

One of the best pieces of advice I've been given is "Before you eat something bad, eat something good". What that meant was, don't force yourself to choose between starvation and eating junk. If you're hungry, eat - but eat something Protein rich and nutrient dense. Allow yourself to eat when hungry, just eat on-plan rather than choosing candy or chips. So a eat a cup of light yogurt rather than ice cream. Eat a serving of string cheese rather than chips. Eat a Protein Bar (with good nutritional composition) if you're in a situation where you can't take the time to eat something more substantial. A boiled egg with salt and pepper is a filling snack. sugar-free pudding can quiet a sweet-tooth.
You have to plan ahead to make sure you have something on-plan to eat. Because if you're like me, if you wait until you're starving, you'll eat whatever is close at hand. Don't beat yourself up, there's a learning curve to this. It will take some time to incorporate your new eating habits into your daily life. Persistence is more important than perfection.
