Where is the "Mad as Hell" emoji? I have no patience for so-called friends who say such rude/mean-spirited/ignorant/clueless things. I'm so sorry you experienced this.

Thank you so much to everyone who has responded to this. But because of all of the helpful and incredibly kind comments I felt the need to update. I haven’t logged in in a while, I actually deleted myself off of all social media. I have an app that I take pictures every 3 days and I measure/weigh myself, and that is the only documentation that I need. At the advice of my Therapist (whom I’ve moved to seeing twice a week in these last 3 weeks) I did this to focus on me and my journey and not to let unsupportive people even enter my thought process. I can honestly say I’ve lost all of my people but my mom, dad and brother. One of the “friends” came around when she came to my house last week to pick up some tickets because I’ve been extremely ill the last 2 weeks (I’ve kept about 750 total calories down in 11 days and have had to get IV fluids twice, have to go back to the surgeon Monday 😕 I’ve gained 6 lbs back and have been so upset because NUT said my body is actually going into like “caveman mode”) When I walked out of the house she said “Holy sh!t, G you look absolutely amazing, I’m so proud of you.” And I’m not gonna lie, I busted into tears on my front porch. She then told me that I had inspired her to get back in the gym and she bought a digital food scale with the app like mine and same for the digital body scale. She actually looks really good as well. I’m really glad she came around. We’ve been supporting eachother now, in different ways (I’m not cleared to do anything but walk still— 47 days out) but keeping eachother accountable. The other 3, I don’t speak to anymore and the negativity that has left my life has been amazing. I don’t allow my family to post photos of me or anything anywhere so only the people that I have chosen (my family essentially) have been who have known so far. And that’ll be it.
As you all know, this is hard. It’s SO hard. I was run over by a 1 ton vehicle and had 8 operations and had to learn to walk again 3 different times and that was a county fair cake walk compared to this.
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you. I know you’re strangers on a message board, but you guys have been better “friends” and support system than I could ever imagine and I’m so so grateful for each and every one of you.

My sister has been the same way. She and I aren’t very close, but when she found out I was having the surgery for my hernia, and was going to have the VSG while they were in there, she made a comment about how “well now you’ve finally got an excuse to make yourself lose that weight.” She knew I had the surgery because I had a balloon in my chest and severe blood pressure issues. But she didn’t care. Im a cheater. But she weighs 135 🙄 That was in November. Haven’t talked to her since.
She texted and asked my parents how I was doing, and they told her I had lost 50 lbs and her response was “let’s see how long that lasts.” After that response I said ya know what, sc*ew em all. This is for US. Not for anyone else.
I know it’s corny but I believe that the best way to heal, succeed and improve your life is to surround yourself with positivity and joy. If the people in your life aren’t about that. They don’t deserve to be there!!

My sister is the one giving me crap about my surgery. She has always been skinny, and I was always chubby.
When she saw me at Christmas time, I had lost about 60-65 lbs. She never said one word about my weight loss. Finally, my mom asked her how did she think I looked. Her response, though she barely looked at me, was "Oh maybe I will have to give her all my clothes that are too big for me now". She said in a very sarcastic way.
Then she said, "I guess its easy to lose weight when you can just have a simple surgery, and cheat your way out of it." Then she continued to talk crap about how most people can just go on a diet, not eat so much food, and lose weight if they really had to.
OMG, now I was getting mad! She knew I had to have the surgery due to being a severe diabetic. The weight loss was a bonus.
When it came time to eat dinner, all I could eat was a little bit of food, and then she made a wise ass comment about that. We have never been close, but this was a slap in the face. I haven't talked to her since, and don't really want to.

Whoa. With friends like these, I'd hate to be in a dark alley with your enemies.
A lot of what I had to say about your "friends" is already wisely expressed above.
I'm glad you have access to a therapist, that is always a good thing.
In the meantime, you probably need a healthy dose of kindred spirits, and you will find an almost endless stream of them here.
    You are doing awesome ❤️

I can't use the words I'd like to to describe this "friend"! Like others have said, I suspect it's jealousy that YOU are being successful with your weight loss and they are struggling. I'm sure there will be some folks that disagree - YES, this surgery IS like starting a race well ahead of anyone else trying to "run the race" with you. However, it sure has hell doesn't meal prep or force you to eat the right foods and follow the plan. YOU make the choices of what goes into your body. YOU make the choice to follow the plan (especially with the sleeve since we generally can tolerate just about any foods). YOU are making the effort to be successful. That my friend is a win!
Hang in there! You've got support on this board and look at the positive - These folks may have been fun to hang out with, but now they've shown you who they really are and it's up to YOU to choose whether or not they remain on your friends list - If not.... well...we all know that the world is far friendlier to people who aren't overweight and you have a new opportunity to find them!

What the actual f**k? That person is NOT your friend. She put you down and then turned it around to make it all about her and HER "honest" efforts... she's jealous and trying to cut you down to make herself feel superior. Anyone who has been on this journey AT ALL knows this is quite far from the "easy way" or the "cheater's way." You made a choice for your health, now the it's time to choose your mental health and cut her out. 210 for your health is far from sickly (and congrats on the 50lbs! That's a LOT of weight!) My sister was a huge nay-sayer, saying that I was going to have bigger mental health issues and ruin my life etc. She just didn't get it. A lot of ppl who aren't there themselves don't. I'm sorry to hear your "friend" was so awful to you. You don't deserve that at all.

Lahela reacted to catwoman7 in 1 month post op. Shocked by nutritionist’s recommendations. Anyone else?
there seem to be a few surgeons who are recommending that calorie level these days as this isn't the first time on here that I've seen it - but it's high compared to most programs (however, most tell patients to just focus on Protein and fluids the first few weeks and don't worry about calories. I only knew what my calorie intake average was because I was tracking from the get-go).
The kind of odd thing is that they told you nothing is off limits. That's true once you're in maintenance, or at minimum, a few months out - but early on we were told to stick to very nutrient-dense food (which would not include things like Pasta, for example. And although my program didn't have us limit carbs, like many do, we were told to avoid sugary things like fruit juice). I wouldn't worry about the carb level they're recommending, though, as not all programs are ultra-low-carb. Also, many of us are told to shoot for 60-80 grams of protein, but 110 isn't anything outrageous - and may be appropriate given the amount of calories and the macro percentages they're recommending.
Creekimp may weigh in here because I think her program was one that recommended higher calorie levels than most (I think some do now because they believe keeping calories a bit higher means your metabolism doesn't take quite the hit).

I actually started BP meds in May 2020 (Lisinopril). I had just started having high BP right before that.. My surgery was July 23, 2020, and my BP was low after surgery and so they told me not to take Lisinopril, and I have not had to go back to it. My BP has been normal since surgery.
It may take longer the longer you've had hypertension and been on meds though.

I was on two BP meds before surgery. My surgeon had me stop one pre-op and I stopped the other about 3 months post-op. My BP runs 100-110/65-75 with no meds. I also stopped my cholesterol meds around the same time and my labs are great. I was having some bouts of dizziness when standing prior to stopping my BP med, and this is now resolved.

I've been really light headed too. I never thought to check my blood pressure. I just assumed it was from the lower calorie intake. I'm going to keep better track of it now. I'm on meds for blood pressure and tachycardia and the last time I went to the doctor my BP was low too. How long do you think my pressure should be low for before I mention it to my doctor? And is there some kind of correlation between the meds and weight?
  18. Thanks
Lahela reacted to ms.sss in Blood Pressure Meds- When were you able to quit taking post op?
Was on them for about 5-6 years prior to WLS. I was taken off them within a week after surgery.
Even after being taken off them, I was consistently around (80-90/(55-65) for about a year...I have a blood pressure machine at home so I used to check every day. I thought this was low, but my doc never showed any concern 🤷🏽‍♀️
These days I'm usually around (100-110)/(70-80).
P.S. as an aside, I was off my cholesterol meds by 1 month post-op too.

Funny story actually... my PCP took me off my blood pressure meds a few months after my surgery because I was experiencing dizzyness and she suspected it was low blood pressure (phone appointment due to pandemic). However, the dizzyness didn't get better after I was taken off my blood pressure meds and just got progressively worse. On top of that my tachycardia shot through the roof because I was taken off my BP meds and I had a constant headache from what I KNEW was high blood pressure. My doctor immediately put me back on my meds when I saw her in her office and my blood pressure was 196/114 with a heart rate of 133. I started doing PT for dizzyness to try and figure out what was triggering it (which it started toward the end of February 2020 and a year later is just as bad and they STILL don't know what's causing it) and we discovered something really strange... the diastolic (lower number) dropped when I sit up or get up. Literally, a whole 10-15 drop. No idea what causes it, but it's likely one of the issues with my dizzyness. The one bright side is... I don't take the meds as MUCH. I used to take them every other day (I know that's weird but my BP dropped too low if I took it every day so my doctor said it was fine to do that since it worked) but now I take them every three days and my BP has been under control (other than the weird thing with the diastolic number dropping when I sit up or get up). However, I don't think I'll EVER be off my BP meds.
