  1. HI EVERYONE!! ThatDEgirl: your surgery is coming up! Are you getting nervous? Does anyone know of tricare denying anyone? I am right on the borderline of the 100lb limit (but have 2 cormorbidities) and I am getting anxious about qualifying. I know I have asked this 304 times :biggrin2: but just trying to ease my mind. I can't get this done soon enough! I think I have researched so much I could probably TEACH a class on lapband surgery!!:tongue_smilie:
  2. I had a total hysterectomy because of endometriosis and I had previously had an ovary removed because of an ovarian tumor. I have never felt better, but I have gained weight since then (35 lbs in a year and a half...I have yet to be banded). Some people lose weight after a hysterectomy.
  3. The Lapband is a TOOL. It is not a miracle. It is not "the easy way out". It is a MAJOR lifestyle change and commitment on your part. You feel the restriction and should feel full, but if you are constantly ingesting high calorie foods, then it will be a waste of money for you. This is why most surgeons and insurance companies require you to go to a nutritionist and psychological consult before surgery. You need to read this board and go to an informational meeting. Almost any hospital that does lapband surgery has free meetings that you can just walk into. Educate yourself and your support people (family/friends). Read everything you can get your hands on. Then question whether you can commit to this. You will read here that it has changes many lives, that it is a lifesaver. You will also read stories of failure. Good luck in your decision!
  4. I would love to join. I just finished "Memory Keeper's Daughter" (great book) as well as "Water for Elephants". I read just about anything. I just started "The Doctor's Wife" and I bought "The Historian (about Vampires).
  5. You will probably want the input of your cardiologist. If you do not have blockages now, or you do not have an arrhythmia, or if your EF% is ok, you should have no problem. He may also help get you a referral...the more doctors that refer you, the better!
  6. Hopefully I am getting banded in August!! I will find out in a week.
  7. I will be calling in the morning to make sure I am called if there is a cancellation. I know I only have to wait a week, but I am anxious to get this done!
  8. Just count backwards from 10
  9. AND...all of my decisions that I stated were personal and how it impacts me...I didn't say anything to try to make you feel like your were an idiot to be a democrat, or that you were killing your children by sending them over there.
  10. I think I will keep quiet on that note...since my 19 year old is getting ready to go over there. It was his choice, no gun to his head, and we are supporting his decision 100%. Just like it was my husband's choice to sign on longer after the war started, just like it was my daughter's decision to join 2 years ago.
  11. You know that ice cream is considered a liquid.
  12. Let's see, My husband was in Somolia (and in the book "Blackhawk Down")...and got screwed by a Democratic President. My husband was also in Iraq and Afghanistan numerous times and we believe that we had every right to be there. There are things that the American public doesn't get to hear. Also, we own a gunsmithing business now that he is retired. My stepson is in the Army and my daughter is in the National guard. I am a nurse, and I see a GREAT deal of abuse in the system. I don't like taxes. So, needless to say, I am a republican.
  13. BBK, You are an inspiration to all of us. You are absolutely beautiful!
  14. Hi! I am Jamie. I am a CCU Nurse in Nashville, TN. My husband just retired after 28 years . He was an Army blackhawk pilot (Ft. Campbell), and retirement did not come soon enough (we are battling severe PTSD) I am hoping to get banded in August.
  15. I have Tricare prime and my appointment with the surgeon is in one week. I am on the borderline of getting approved (the 100 lb overweight thing...I have the comorbidities). I have heard nothing but good things about Tricare and how fast they are.
  16. It is important that your surgeon knows what your insurance is looking for and how to word it. Some offices have never dealt with tricare before. Call tricare Monday morning and find out why you were denied. Then you can go from there. Let me know what you find out, as I am trying to get approved also.
  17. I liked hystersisters too. Lot's of info there!
  18. My surgeon is Dr. Steely in Clarksville. I know several people that have gone to him and they really like him. My pulmonologist is at Centennial (you may have to have a sleep study done). I just joined this board about a month ago and I am addicted! I have learned so much. Everyone is very friendly, helpful and inspiring. 6 months gives you plenty of time to get everything done. Go ahead and start a Dr's supervised diet. Keep records of EVERYTHING! This will help with insurance approval. And ask questions...there is no such thing as a "stupid question". Good luck on your journey!
  19. Welcome! I work in Nashville, but live in Clarksville. Have you looked at surgeons?
  20. Army wife here. Husband just retired after 28 years Army Special Ops. Would love to join!
  21. Ok, does tricare require the psy eval, or is that a surgeon thing? My surgeon's office says that the doc doesn't require it but they "believe" tricare does. It is taking me awhile to get an appointment with the psy doc.
  22. I have tricare north and am hoping to get approved. So far they have approved the 7 surgeon's visits. My bmi is at 36 and I have 2 comorbidities (hypertension and sleep apnea on cpap). I would definitely call tricare to see why you were not approved. I do know that every Tricare handbook I have read states the 100 lb overweight or 200% thing. No mention of BMI. But I have heard of some people being a little under the 100 lb overweight limit and still getting approved. Good luck and let us know what is going on!
  23. Ok, I went to my pcm this week and he sent the referral to my surgeon. I already made the appointment several weeks ago with the surgeon and was Soooo excited about going today for my 1st visit. By the end of the day I would know from insurance if they approved. Well, I was getting ready to go and I get a phone call from the office saying that I MISSED the appointment. It was at 9 am and not 11!!! I am kicking myself. Now I have to wait several more weeks to get in with him (unless someone cancels). Sorry, had to vent!
