The waiting game
This has been a two month journey. The appointments have been made and kept. I had my psy exam and passed with flying colors. My gallbladder has been scanned, and my esophagus has been probed. I have gone to meetings and researched the heck out of this...now is the time to wait....wait...wait. Waiting for everything to be submitted to insurance and for insurance to give the final decision. I am border line of what my insurance requires for Lapband surgery (the 100lbs overweight) only being a few pounds over their low end. I have 2 comorbids (HTN and sleep apnea). I am sooo ready to get this done!

My doc is in Clarksville at Gateway. You can go to the Tricare site and it will show you when the authorization goes through. https://mim.mytricare.com/Login.auth

Tricare
Lisa,If you have Tricare you have to have your PCM refer you to the surgeon. After your appointment, he will order the necessary tests. Then they will submit it to tricare. Today is my last step (I am getting my EGD today). Once everything is in, my surgeon will submit it to Tricare. He works with Tricare quite a bit, and used to be an Army Surgeon. I live in Clarksville, but I work in Nashville, and I chose Dr. Steely for his reputation and because he knows the ins and outs of Tricare. He didn't seem to think there would be any problem with getting me approved for surgery, and I am on the border line of the requirements. Good luck!

Free Sample of Nectar Protein!
Thanks! I know if you write to some of the companies they will send you free samples. I refuse to buy any unless I can try them for free first. I don't want to waste hundreds of dollars on something I will never drink. SYNTRAX (which makes Nectar, will send you free samples if you write to the company).

Tricare Prime has denied me
OMG! Why did they have to do that! They should have put "pending". Keep us updated!!

Tricare Prime has denied me
Wow....I would call today and find out the reason for the denial..I know people with your numbers that have been approved. Sometimes it is the Doctor's office that causes the denial (ie, they don't have everything in, they don't use the right codes, they don't do the right tests). My doctor is former military and does a lot of tricare patients. There are many tests that he does that some of you have not had to go through. They acted shocked when I told them I was not sure Tricare covered me...they said "tricare approves everyone". "With your comorbidities you will have no problem". They told me Tricare requires the EKG, EGD, sleep study and PSY exam. My numbers are lower than yours, but my comorbids are high blood pressure and sleep apnea (I am on cpap). Appeal appeal appeal!!

UUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! Non supportive family
Many people that are non supporters are uneducated on weight loss surgery. They hear all of the "horror" stories (mostly about gastric bypass). My comeback is "I have researched this and I believe that this is the best option for me". One of the persons that was non supportive at first is now looking into getting banded too! Good luck!!

My American Idol experience!
GOOD LUCK!!! Give Simon a good wink for me:wink:

i have 21 hours, 50 minutes until my surgery.
It's normal to be nervous. You are going to have a life changing experience! Try to relax (easier said than done). Take a nice warm bath (you won't be taking one in awhile) and get your house ready for when you come home. I feel like I am an old pro at surgeries (esp laproscopic procedures) as I have had about 8.

If a doc was in the "ghetto".....
Ok, I am going to put my 2 cents in... I am a "white" nurse and I work for a company covering 8 hospitals in Nashville, TN. By no means is this Atlanta. But most of the hospitals are downtown, near the projects. Everyday when I go to work, I see homeless people pushing their shopping carts down the road (in fact, they knock on my window when I am in a particular fast food drive-thru). There are "ghetto" areas around the hospitals. I have been fortunate to have had the experience in taking care of people in every socioeconomic bracket, every race, every religion..etc etc. I can honestly say that sometimes I feel safer in these areas than I do where I live (in the country, out in the middle of no where). If at anytime at the hospital you feel uncomfortable you can ask the front desk to have security walk you out. There are probably more dangerous people behind you in line at Walmart.

I am a Hoosier, although I live in TN now. Originally from Evansville/Princeton/Petersburg area. My mom still lives there and is considering Lapband.

protein shake during pre-surgery clear liquids?
FYI...clear liquids is just that...CLEAR. You can see through it. Jello, broth, sprite, pop cycle (if it melts at room temp to a clear liquid), lemonade, coffee (no cream), tea, juice, water, soft drinks.
