Chantrella got a reaction from cheryl o in Has anyone else experienced this?
I had surgery March 3, 2021. I was 268 at the beginning of my journey and 262 at the time of surgery. I am 173 as of today. I know I have lost weight but when I look into the mirror I see the same size pre surgery.

Erg, I just tried rice for the first time right before reading this lol. I guess we’ll see! I had 1.5 Tbsp. I tolerate noodles ok as long as it’s no more than 2Tbsp. My dietician kept pressing me to try it (I am getting very bored with eating at all - I feel like it’s a waste of time and I hate doing it).

I wouldn’t be able to drink or gulp Water fast. I would no longer be able to tolerate artificial sweeteners.

Chantrella got a reaction from Tripletsmom1971 in Swollen belly!
Yes, I had RNY and my belly got really swollen after especially after I had something with artificial sweeteners. They ran all the test CT scan nothing came up. I’m just really sensitive and had to wait for the swelling to go down and the sutures to heal. July 3rd I make 4 months out. Feeling fine now. It improved for me week 8.

That's great! There are a lot of artificial sweeteners. Malitol or xytlitol are the most likely (I believe) to cause GI upset, but it's different for different people. I would try a few when you are safely at home and near a bathroom and see how you react. Become an ingredient obsessive detective. I know that I don't get sick from stevia, but it doesn't taste sweet to me when it's the only sweetener used; it sort of tastes metallic and flat. I love me some splenda tho!

I had surgery 3/3 and surgery again 3/12. I had a rough start couldn’t eat or drink for 6 weeks in and out the hospital nothing tasted good. I’ve been a diabetic for 4 years so artificial sweeteners were my go to, but after surgery they caused distress. Today marks 12 weeks 3 months post surgery and two days ago I tried Chick-fila unsweet tea and diet lemonade and........ no distress from the artificial sweetener! I don’t know if it’s just the Splenda I can have or if my body was still working itself out in the beginning. I’m very happy so I thought I’d share this. I love Water, but it was nice to have something different.

I know how you feel! I had surgery 3/3 and then a week later surgery again dr obstructed my bowels. The one person I told made me feel bad for having it my boyfriend. I had a lot of minor complications excess saliva, couldn’t drink anything, dehydration. I was admitted to the hospital 3 times after surgery. The good news is after the internal swelling goes down week 6-8 it gets easier. Please relax keep a Water handy. It will definitely get easier the surgery puts our bodies in shock for a few weeks.

Chantrella got a reaction from Drinkwine28 in Has anyone regretted getting the surgery?
Honestly, I had complications my surgeon accidentally obstructed my bowels so a week later I had emergency surgery, I was producing excess saliva, I couldn’t take in any fluids and my body no longer can tolerate artificial sweeteners. I couldn’t drink my favorite thing in the world like I wanted to anymore, Water. I am now on May 3rd going to make 2 months out! I want to say 2 weeks ago everything got better fluids started rolling in. No more nasty taste in mouth no more excessive saliva. I no longer have diabetes and I crave healthy food. I’m getting my fluids in and I can drink my water cold and get through 20 ounces in 30-45 mins. So yes I regretted it at one point but now I don’t. Everyone reacts to the surgery differently if you do have a hard time after just let your body heal and it will get better.

I am almost 2 weeks from surgery (5/10) but between the 2 week pre-op and liquids since surgery, I can finally feel comfortable wearing a shirt that does NOT cover my butt!

    New NSVs!
I now fit into all the clothes I stashed away after getting too big for them. I tried on my wedding dress yesterday - and it fit me! Here is the weird one: I can see my thigh "saddle bags" that used to bother me so much. I love them now because they are a symbol of my body taking shape now that they are no longer blending into and being covered by other extra fat.

184.4 (goal of 184.0) so I'm .4 away. Almost there. Got a little more work to do this week.

I've been at the beach with my family this week and for the first time in a very long time, I'm comfortable walking around without a shirt on. Also, I'm really close to losing 100 lbs, so I thought I'd take this chance to kick up my walking routing up a notch. I've been walking about 25k steps a day, and after 4 days of this, I woke up this morning feeling my abs when I touched my belly. I'm eager to weigh when I get back home- I think I'm close.

not a typical thing with RNY, although I know some people who can't handle certain artificial sweeteners (esp sugar alcohols - those with names ending in -itol). Although I also know VSG people who can't tolerate those - as well as people who've never had any WLS at all. I've had RNY, and I'm fine with any artificial sweetener. It could very well be that in your case it's related somehow, but that doesn't seem to be true of all of us...

My surgery was 3/3/21 I was 268 and I told myself aim big so my first weight loss goal was 205. I had a stall in April of three weeks the scale wouldn’t budge to pass 215! Then it began to move only took a week and a half to get to 206.8 and now guess what?! It won’t budge! It refuses to give me my first goal, lol

Started considering when my blood sugar meter read over 500( I was always diet controlled before that) got my sugar under control. One morning stepped on the scale 268! Then I could only wear tights everywhere. Yup that was it.
