Gastric Bypass lasted 5 hours due to scar tissue.
Hi to all. I haven't been on the forum to post for couple of days, as I had my surgery on Jan 12th. I am just curious if anyone else has ever had a 5 hour long gastric bypass. My poor Dr. worked on my lower intestines where I had so much scar tissue and he said if he hadn't fixed it that later on in life it would have given me lots of trouble. So, I'm actually very blessed that my Dr. went above and beyond for my health. However, I paid for it with the pain. Oh my goodness!!!!! I'm talking pain scale of 10 for awhile. It felt like my stomach was on fire. However, by the next morning I was much better. I only had to stay 2 nights and they were thinking 3 at first, so that of course more good news. I just wanted to share and say Hi and I'm glad to be back home.

Undecided - Newbie - figuring my way around
Thanks so much for your support. I will for sure take your advice. It just seems they(the Dr's) want to act like the surgery patients just want to take pain medication for the heck of it? I will let them know, I mean it makes recovery so much easier if you aren't in so much pain. We will/would be able to walk more to work the soreness out. Thanks again. You are so kind. Also, Shout out to your Father for making sure they helped you.

Absolutely no reason for apologies at all. I am glad to hear that you are doing betther. I am going for my bypass on Jan !2, and I am worried myself that they will not give strong enough pain medication, if needed. I don't understand that at all. That is what the medicine is made for? I just don't get it, but glad to hear from you. Sounds like you are doing great.

Things I won't miss about being fat!
Sad to say but isn't it the truth. I've been big and small a few times in my life, and as far as men go, it is so the truth.

I am allergic to steri-strips. They do me the same way. If you don't have them off , you need to inform you dt right away and take them off. It could make it harder for your incisions to heal as fast, I mean if you get more blisters. I just thought Id share this. I informed my Dr up front, but he told me to remind him when I come to his office after surgery? Hope this helps. I'm sorry to hear this for you, but really I did fine without them

That is great. Sounds like you are doing wonderful, and no pain meds at that. Well, other then Tylenol. I'm so happy for you, but yeah I'd keep taking that med for the nausea as long as needed.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe that you had Gastric bypass and they sent you home the same day. I am having surgery on the 12th and was told I'd be there at least 2 nights. I have seen a couple of posts where ppl said they came home the same day with gastric bypass. I'm sure every dr is different? Keep us posted please, and take really good care of yourself.

Got my surgery date. Any January bypass surgeries??
Yay! I'm so happy for you. I know I'm excited about mine on the 12th. I have my pre-op visit with my surgeon tomorrow morning. I don't look forward to the 2 wk pre-op diet, at all. I can see you will not have to do a very long pre-op diet, which is good for you. I wish you all the luck, and keep us posted.

December 2020
Well, i can't say that I have any tips, but congrats to you. I will let you know that my surgery date in Jan 12th, and I'm nervous as well. I think this is normal for anyone that is getting ready to have surgery. I have had 14 prior surgeries and it doesn't get any easier. Also, I just wanted to tell that I started this journey once before and I backed out. I hadn't gotten as far as you have in the process, but I regret backing out to this day. Everyone is different, but really think about your decision. This is surgery is something that is going to help us get healthy. I know I need it so much. I can't wait to enjoy walks, and playing with my grandbaby on the floor. Its all the little things that I look forward to, as much as not having to take so much medication. I hope this is of some help, and I wish you the best of luck. Rhonda

Pre Surgery diet No Sugar?
Thank you so much. I was given a copy of the 2 wk pre-surgery diet I'm supposed to stick to, however I didn't realize it that it says "no sugar" that's why I am confused because in turn it does talk about the protein shakes throughout the day. Thanks I'm sure it has to be something to that effect.

Pre Surgery diet No Sugar?
I am just curious if we are allowed to drink any of the ready to drink protein shakes, such as Fairlife or Premeir being that one has 2 grams of sugar and the other has 1 gram of sugar? I know I can as my dr when I go for my pre surgery appointment on Dec 31st, but I was thinking about ordering some. Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

Things I won't miss about being fat!
i can relate to each and every person that has stated all the reasons I won't miss about being fat and I know this is absolutely TMI, but I hated using the bathroom because I can't get to myself to clean myself properly without having to get back in the shower once again.

Items ordered from BariatricPal with tasting survey
I placed my first order with them on the 19th of December and here it is the 24th and my order saying it is still sitting in there store/warehouse? I realize Covid and Christmas, but I mean 5 days and it has been ready for shipping with tracking number and all. I don't know what is going on? I even talked with them yesterday and was told I'd get an alert by today as to the location, nope still sitting there with them?

Got my surgery date. Any January bypass surgeries??
This is amazing news. I'm so very happy for you. Thanks for the update. Yes, my surgery is coming up on January 12th. However, now I'm concerned because my 6yo granddaughter just tested positive for Covid! Great.... I pray that I don't get it. I was only around her briefly, and I kissed her on top of her head. Finger crossed for me that I don't get this crap. Thanks
